Hot summer in the city. A passionate GV slightly nerds it up with an expensive wine from one of his favourite regions.

    Gary,

QOTD- I lay on my couch in my underwear with a fan pointed at my on hi. In the afternoon after sweating for hours I get some cold ass beer into me!!

PS- Crozes-Hermintage is good but much much cheaper and still shows that N.Rhone.

    Hi Gary,

I really enjoyed watching this show from your balcony, because it gives me a glimpse of big-city life. It looked beautiful there today. How about showing us the view of the city that you have there?

QOTD: The trouble with Arizona is that it’s never 95-degrees here in the summer, except maybe at around 4 am. It’s been around 110 degrees all summer, and I am damned tired of it. But like you say, football season is drawing near. The fall [and spring] weather here is unbelievably beautiful. This time of year, it’s the swimming pool and cold beer that get’s me through.

You should visit AZ in the fall — 85 degrees and low humidity. Unreal.

QOTD: Usually in the A/C wishing for the call to get on a boat & float.

…remember that nice weather when you’re in Houston next month when it’s 95 degrees and 90% humidity…

    Gv-
You are spot on with the Cali Cab comment. Here in Yuma, AZ we are way behind when it comes to wine education. I’ve actually turned a lot of people on to a Gigondas I did on a tasting after watching episodes 505 & 678. Keep the knowledge flowing!

QOTD- When it’s 118 here in AZ I’m wishing I was in NYC with 95 degrees

  • Rocking it out, Gary! Nice show. I’m anxiously waiting to know about the Crush It Cruise, although I don’t think we’ll be able to go, which is sad because Concepción’s birthday’s on that week. We’ll see.

Great episode! Because I am from Carmel, on those rare 95 degree days, I like to stay cool, pour on the sunscreen, drink a lot of H2O, and drink some chilled chardonnay from the Santa Cruz mountains.

QOTD: I cut grass and trim hedges and have a very nice sweat.

Then I sit back and enjoy a 2006 Von Schleinitz Weisenberg Spatlese Riesling.

I keep buying and drinking this wine every week – I’d be interested to know if you’ve had it and what your thoughts are on it.

    Nice show – Rhone’s Rock!

Always enjoy a little quickie, one-wine flipcam episode from the GV Manhattan homestead.

QOTD: Hot summer day = reading a script or book in the shade with a coffee-related beverage outside of Peet’s Coffee on Larchmont in LA (while wishing I knew someone in the city with a pool…)

  • Hermitage, Yes, that’s one really good play. Have just bought a couple of Chapotier Monier de la Sizeranne 1999 to drink on upcoming birthdays.
I’m following you advice to expand my palate, trying everything I can get hold of, from Romania to Peru, Germany to South Africa.

QOTD: Hot summer days I place my butt on my terrace, uncork a red wine and just enjoy the sunshine and wine.

  • QOTD: On a hot day like today, depends if it is the weekend or a week day but I am always looking for something to do when I’m not working, be it leisure, culture, play, fun or downtime.

Hermitage is very serious wine I agree. (…and a brand that I have locally available which is nice.)

Gary, good show. I must go back to my previous comments about your father being the only guest that brings the quality of the show up. I really like you home episodes, you seem energetic but focused the Shafer and another bd episode were great.

A suggestion to go back to Aglianico. It has been over 2 years since the grape has been featured. I think they bring a lot of value to the table and should be in everyone’s cellar, at least once. The last bottle I had was the Feudi di San Gergorio.

QOTD: In Buffalo NY, we just sit in the sun.

    Gary,
I have been watching your show for about a year.
I love your enthusiasm. Its great to see someone as passionate about wine as I am (There aren’t that many people who would get that excited about drinking red wine on a steamy outdoor NYC terrace when it is 95 degrees).
I will continue to watch. We’ll both continue to drink.
By the way, I just had a great 2007 Seghesio zin (Rockpile vineyard) last night.
Great delicious wine. Something tells me that the hype about 2007 California wines may be justified. I guess I will wait to hear what you think.

Thanks for the Ermitage information GV. I shall see if I can score a bottle for the wife’s B-D next weekend.

AotD: Skinny dipping in the Conowingo Creek. Then sipping some Reisling.
