line of the day – ‘Can you believe I’ve been doing this for 3 and a half years?’

Hot summer in the city. A passionate GV slightly nerds it up with an expensive wine from one of his favourite regions.

    Air Condition…

  • Working unfortunately. Really surprised that you are spitting your own wine on the patio. Might want to point out that Crozes Hermitage is also really nice and these wines run in the more affordable range.

    Gary,
    Love the show…I don’t know if I count as a “CKC” being that I turn 26 on 8/20, but…

I’m an incoming Graduate Student for the fall at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo…

Maybe you should do another college wine episode, but this time include efforts from some top California Enology Departments that bottle their own wine…i.e. Cal Poly and Fresno St.

It would be a chance to give the up and coming winemakers some feedback on their work…

    Gary,

Good Show, Thanks for bringing out the HERMITAGE!! and also a Special Thanks, for bringing out the fact that most do seem to bring out the “CALI Juice” wayyy too much.

QOTD: I take my Golden Retriever to the dog beach and spend time with him as I do not have the full amount of time during the week to spend with him, that he deserves.

Too hot for me…will stay in!

By the way, just wondering how did the heat affect your wine?

I sure do love WLTV. So far I have not been able to spread the love though.
QOTD: Well I often go out to one of the many lakes we have around here with friends, play volleyball, go swimming and sometimes drink some vino. Always a great time.

GARY! How can you not drop a Herm Edwards Pun on this episode?! Love for Sanchez and no Herm? 3rd quarter defense pep talk to the old juice and no Herm?

I’m dissappointed, hey, you could have thrown us a recommendation for (HERM)itage under 50 bones.

Thank you so much for getting yourself back on TiVo. Yeah, you can watch the shows on the computer but I much prefer to open a bottle of Walla Walla wine and kick back in the living room with you.

Great episode. If you are doing universites, don’t foget Texas A&M. As an incentive I will take you out to an incredible restaurant in the area with some kickass wines.

Also looking forward to seeing you in Houston at the convention.

todays show gave me a headache. the picture was jumping and the sound was worse. invest in some better equipment. it looked like the gas station security camera videos on the crime shows. if i order any wine in a restauant and it smells like horse radish, it goes right back. the same goes for tobacco and barnyard odors.

I could see the copper color better when you spit! It was in the sun and the color shone through nicely.

QOTD – I live in Orlando. It’s 95 everyday for 4 months. So just a normal day for me.

I have to give the love for you busting out the 90 Guigal Hermitage. I had it a year ago and loved it. You know how some of us chicago guys like to do it up and just two weeks ago a couple of us brought it with a bunch of older northern rhones. What can I say, I love them and they have turned into a massive obsession

QOTD: I’d go out for a long walk in central park. When I was living in Jersey, and it’d be a hot and beautiful day like that, I’d just take the train up to Penn Station and get on up to Central Par and enjoy all the sights there were to see there. If I had an apartment in the city, I’d then open up some bubbles afterward and just city watch after doing up Central Park

  • Hi Gary,
solid show, lovely location, brilliant weather, good rant 🙂

QOTD: holiday for me. Drove to Makkum a few days (netherlands coast) for windsurfing. That was fun.

    Greetz from Germany

QOTD: If it’s 91 degrees here in Tucson, we’re usually celebrating the cool weather 😉 Typically, what I do when that’s the high for the day is go running, ride my bike into work, and after work look for a patio to relax on and sip some gosh-darn wine!!

Loved the CKC shoutout, it’s been awhile. Also love the “fun facts”, keep them coming!

Gary, Great show today ! I’m an avid fan! The first episode I saw was wine on a plane #680 and from there I was hooked! I love the show and how you present the wines in a real, down to earth, no-nonsense, NON-snooty way.

Congrats on 3.5 years! Only wished I had started watching sooner.

QOTD: I sit on the deck in our back yard with my hubby, drinking wine and grilling on the weber.
Enjoying the warm weather now because in 4 month or so I’ll be shoveling snow and freezing my butt off!

At 95 degrees, with our humidity, I hide near an AC vent and drink anything but wine.

Good episode, I’m looking into buying some wine from the 90’s for a future birthday so there was some info that was useful to me. Thank you!
QOTD: On the weekends… camping somewhere near water, (Yuba, Navarro or Eel Rivers most likely) jumping in the water for a bit and kicking back with a few frosty beers or well chilled, high acid Riesling.
Weekdays… trying to sleep because I work nights 🙁

  • JB

CKC- Ithaca College… Gary, you gotta come make a visit. Cornell is in the same town so you can do two book stops at once. Plus Cornell has an Enology and Viticulture program and we are on Cayuga Lake, which you know is part of the Finger Lakes Wine region so wine is a pretty big deal in Ithaca. So what’s better then having the coolest dude in wine come out and do a talk? Nothing! O yea, you gotta let me introduce you when you come that’s the catch.

QOTD ~ Living in Vegas has its perks and summer time is one of them. Lot’s of pools, bbq’s, and fun in the sun!

    Hey Gary.

Great show. I love when you nerd it up. I’m the treasurer of the University of Nottingham Wine and Spirits Society in the UK and watching your show is getting me excited for the new academic year when Wine Society starts up again. Can’t wait to get back to introducing some wide-eyed freshers to some good vino.

QOTD: well here in England we don’t really get weather like you do in New York. but on the odd occasion where the clouds part and the sun makes an appearance I like to chill on my balcony with a nice glass of sangria or New Zealand sauvignon blanc and just read a good book.

    Keep up the good work!

Nice little show, Gary. Props to Hermitage and Guigal. I was in the Northern Rhone last June and had a blast. You should try and do a show on Saint-Joseph wines and Croze-Hermitage which are a little more affordable and really tasty versions of syrah.

QOTD: When it is 95 degrees, I get lazy in my “almost 50” old age. I read a book on the deck, work on a crossword puzzle or stay in the A/C. I’m not a big fan of humidity (except in my wine cellar, of course!).
