Hot summer in the city. A passionate GV slightly nerds it up with an expensive wine from one of his favourite regions.

  • good show…maybe too much coffee today…regardless. like seeing the new wine.

on the jets front: i hope k. clemmens doesn’t get the shaft. he is a good qb, but sanchez is good as well.

  • italianwinelover

Like the short great show! Love when you nerd it up and I can believe you’ve been bringing the thunder for that long – YOU SO ROCK!!! The Hermitage is a little pricey for my budget right now…have tried it though and loved it!

QOTD: Go down to the IL River and enjoy brie with a Vinho Verde with my best friend!

  • The fun facts and nerd info are the backbone of these shows, the talent keeps it exciting…just a little bit of knowledge goes a long way and can give folks the gumption to try something that they might not otherwise. Thanks again.

QOTD: While you were on the patio, we were down on the bank of the White River…the water was just perfect. Sipping on some of our stockpile of Broadbent Vinho Verde, super clean, tasty and refreshing…wicked inexpensive. If Wine Library carried it, it would probably price out like the Famega or Casal Garcia.

  • CKC here representing the University of Michigan – looking to ‘Crush It’ as a Food Engineer after I graduate in Decemeber! If you came to town for your book tour, I’d be SO pumped.

QOTD: Well, today I helped my friend move into his new place for the semester. Then I took a dip in the pool with my girlfriend. Overall, a good use of a nice, hot day.

  • I liked Hermitage when I was in northern Rhone, and further south, I really really enjoyed Cotes de Beaune – wow. luscious.

QOTD: What do I do, or prefer to do? The former – I tend the vines, the latter, I sit in A/C by the window overlooking the sea.

Hi GV, long weekend? You deserve it!
But next time you could ask Sasha to do a show for the Vayner Nation.

QOTD: If I’m working, it’s a good time to go see the sugarcane fields, talk to the workers… If it’s a free day, I’ll grab a beer on the beach or pool.

Best wishes to you, Misha, Sasha, Mr. Mott, and Winelibrary crew.

  • Excellent point on the steak house “go to” cabs. It really is shame A) that people aren’t branching out a little more (keep up the good work) and B) that these really great cabs are being consumed so young. I love Bondol and red meat, Hermitage (as you suggest) and even Gigondas every now and then. Then there is always a Merlot but no one wants a F-ing Merlot.

QotD – Go for a run… and then wish I had just spent the time inside playing with my son.

  • I love your wine video blog! Great energy, good humor, zippy enthusiasm that really makes you curious about the wine you’re trying. Love the whole concept – will add you to my blogroll – and I’ll be back for more! (My blog is a video-focused one also.) Cheers!

qotd: A siesta or a swim usually isn’t how I am permitted to spend the doggiest days of summer, but when I can- I do. When I’m just dripping out there in the sun, I try to focus on something peaceful like riding a ski lift through snow covered evergreens.

Love that concentrated Syrah action. Enjoyed the solid background information about these wines. Have you tried Paul Jaboulet “La Chapelle”? Abit more forward perhaps. Rain and cold in Dublin.

  • Gary, I’ve been lucky to live in a tropical paradise for the last 5 years. It’s always 90F. 9 months a year it’s gorgeous. During that time, with visibility ~200′, it’s DIVE DIVE DIVE!

If ever an AOC were worthy of age, 10-20+ years, Hermitage is it… the stuff just gets more complex, but fruit components start to break down around that time, and I like them intact. Non fruit qualities are amazing, though.

QotD – As the sticker on my computer says, “Ride a F***ing Bike!”

FINALLY got to watch this one. Short episode, yet I kept having to run, and had to watch in three parts! Weird huh? Really interesting wine today…I may seek out a bottle in the near future.

QOTD: It’s been pretty darn warm here in southern New Mexico, I’ve even worn shorts to work a few times in the last couple weeks. Best thing I’ve done so far though, was before school started, I cut out of work early a couple weeks ago, right at 1:00, and farted around all afternoon with my son.

BIODYNAMIC/ORGANIC— Can you get your peeps to tag the past episodes with organic/natural and biodynamic please? I am a fanatic about learning about that aspect of the wine cosmos, and the show yesterday (which was awesome and I comment a lot…just saying) prompted me go on a research binge on Tony Coturri. Hook us up GV! Latest tasty selection for me has been the Vina godeval godello 07 and the Dutton and Goldfield russian River Pinot Noir- both we great!

QOTD: Picnic in the park with my wife and son, maybe bike ride, take a dip in the pool or ocean. It’s a good time for the best things in life. I like the shaved head, looking sleek and cool- did Vance get you to do that?

Good show! I love Hermitage…man do I ever, though I do prefer Chateauneuf du Pape…my absolute favorite beverage.

QOTD: Living in DC, I have to say that the absurd summers here make me go to the tea pot and the ice cube tray to brew up some delicious iced tea. I usually use a combination of Ceylon and Assam teas, as they are both hefty and full flavored brews. ALWAYS buy looseleaf tea! Bags taste awful and the tea is poor quality. Keep cool!

Since 95 degrees is too hot for me to call it “beautiful”, I’m likely to be hiding inside. If not that, I like to get into some water and swim a little. Nice episode. I have yet to try some mature wines from the Northern Rhone, but they’re definitely in the top portion of my list.

95 degrees in Phoenix, I like to go outside, and bundle up with a long sleeve shirt.
