line of the day – ‘I know I’m making you guys vomit with all this camera action’

GV raw and unplugged. Absolutely love these spontaneous shows. Who else would have the balls to walk into a wine bar unannounced and start filming off the cuff? Answer – no one!

  • My eyes hurt.

QOTD: I’d tell you if I could remember. I don’t do a lot of “by the glass” wine. If I’m out and don’t get a bottle, I go to beer.

  • mrzitro

QOTD: worst so far Layer Cake Primitivo

  • If you want a Pinot Noir Rose that brings serious ‘wine geek’ thunder, check out the Lioco 2008 Rose. It is about the same money as the Toad Hollow and better. I’ve had both.

Looked like the wine with the cork was synthetic…also not necessary to sample.

  • A dumb Rhine king

haha. While Jim is pondering …

QOTD: I haven’t had a bad glass this year. The best was the 2006 Cantena Malbec.

These “reality” videos have a pornesque quality to them. I’m always a little worried that your going to take out your junk or something.

QOTD: I can’t remember the last time I had a wine by the glass.

    dick.

Hey, thanks for the invite GV, I work a couple blocks from there.

    Love these episodes.

QOTD: I had a Phelps Insignia by the glass in Atlantic City. That was the good one. 🙂 I also had some Copperidge Merlot at a wedding that was putrid.

Gary, Why did you try the Rose before you tried the Sauvignon Blanc? I was always told white before red including rose’s.
QOTD – 2005 BV George de Latour BTG at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee for $28!!

  • Gary, tough luck about the knee. I saw your Tweet the other day about waiting for your douche of a doctor. I LoL’d and then realized you were probably still hustling it in the Doc’s office.

You mentioned Mott…is he using Twitter or any other social media. I’d love to hit that guy up. He seems like the bomb.

QotD: I don’t drink wine by the glass. It’s just not economical for a youngin like me. If, and when I actually eat out, I’m getting H20. It’s still lean times some of us.

    Blessings, bro

  • I like it, Gary, even with the shaky flip-cam. Nice Chave slip-of-the-tongue; they make some amazing wines. It’s also great to see the public, in this case Jim from Turks and Frogs, embracing the flip-cam and online shows. you never know what kind of response you’re going to get out in public.

QOTD – I don’t order wines by the glass very often because, being in the buisness, I know how much they really cost. I’m usually familiar with most of the wines anyway. And there is always the question of how long the wine has been open. Restaurants try to squeeze every drop out of every bottle. Since their getting the bottle cost for the glass price, they should just let the employees have what’s left at the end of each night. This not only teaches the waitstaff about the wines, but makes it a happy place for them to work knowing they’ll possibly get some free wine at the end of their shift. 🙂

  • The best was a 1995 Le Montrachet Bouchard the worst was a 1996 Chassagne Grands Rochettes pure crap. Too bad but wow what a great restaurant to taste at.

Great “road” show… nice to see you throw in one of these once in a while..

QOTD: Best: 2004 Freemark Abbey Cab at the La Jolla Hilton…
Worst: Ravenswood Zin (don’t remember the year).. contrary to their motto, was pretty WIMPY…

  • Lawrence Leichtman

Had a 2006 Petit Verdot from Chandon that was completely dead and dried up. The bottle had probably been open for 2 weeks or more. Toad Hollow is only OK at the best of times.

Poor thing with the ear drum. Happened to me – many years ago. My girlfriend whacked me – then had to take me to hospital. An NHS hospital no less! I was on the waiting list for the op’ for so long it got better of its own accord. Now I know that this is not the place to get political but, seeing as we’re on the subject, there’s been so much nonsense reported in the US media about the National Health Service in the UK. Sure – it’s far from perfect but voters in the UK tend to rate maintaining the NHS as their highest priority. What does that say? And if you want deluxe health care – you can take insurance for that too. Hmmm. Sorry but I just hate misrepresentation. Good luck!

How cool that you strolled up to Turks and Frogs and tasted wine for WLTV!!!! That’s so awesome. I would have like more camera time for that beautiful dog at the next table.

QOTD: Cupcake Chardonnay sucked and I don’t like using that word. I had to pour it down the drain. Best wine?? Gosh, tough question. Maybe Tilenus Bierzo, 2001. I also thoroughly enjoyed a Chehalem pinot noir this year.

Speedy recovery for the knee. Sorry you have to have surgery.

QOTD. Worst – I had a beaujolais, the name I can’t remember. I asked the server if it was good. She said yes. She was very wrong. It was terrible 64 point wine. She obviously had no idea.

Sorry to hear about the knee surgery, but it’s not like you really have a choice.

Your parents will love living close to their granddaughter, but it seemed your father was enjoying playing gentleman farmer. It may take him a while to adapt.

Tip: $15-20 will get you a decent tabletop tripod. Looks dorky, but improves video quality.

QOTD: I don’t think I’ve ever ordered a wine by the glass.
