    • qotd: I opened up one of my 2007 the one that was the least expensive going with more accesable, and man did it live up to the 2007 hype. A fantastic bottle and I think it was aj ust a “cotes du rhone”

Great show! Chateauneuf is one of my favorites!

Didn’t know about the warm and fuzzy good stuff about the 2007 vintage.

      Again, I learn something.

      Thanks Gary.

Haven’t tried any 07s yet. They tend to be a little pricey…I’m still diggin the 10-15 dollar spanish reds, but if I see the Brusquieres I’ll give it a shot.

    • THANKS VERY MUCH, MUCHAS GRACIAS for greeting Eduardo. He is going to flip when he sees it. I really cannot thank you enough. Awesome episode. When I think Chateauneuf-du-pape, my mind thinks complexity. Also, I love WLTV in its regular format/setting, like today. The Crush it cruise website is beautiful; very nicely done. The cruise is quite an experience, quite a luxury, so much fun, can’t be missed; Concepción and I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved it. QOTD: Pats 21 – 7. QOTD2: not yet, but I had been given the heads up already, to buy ANY ’07 Chat-du-pape and put it away.

QOTD 2: No 2007 CdPs yet but I’m really looking forward to them. I’m not sure how CdP does it: no bad vintage since 2000 (except 2002) and outstanding vintages in 1998, 2001, 2003 (if sometimes overly huge), 2005 (that I have bought quite a lot of) and now, apparently, 2007. Vintages like 2004 and 2006 are ok too and a bit more accessible while you wait for your 2005s to age a bit. Perhaps its the vine age (average 30 years +) and a great climate? I’ve read and now heard great things about 2007 CdP so I can’t wait to try some. I wonder if it is a massive, intense, fairly tannic vintage like 2003 or 2005 or more to UK wine writers’ taste like the 2006 or 2004 vintages, more approachable and nuanced?

    • Hi Gary,
Nice show. In a lot of 2007 C9DP’s the alcohol bothers me. The best 07 C9DP I had until now is the 07 Clos Des Papes.
      best regards,
      Felix

    • Not sure about the Jets and the Pats but I’m sure the All Blacks will give the Wallabies the bash in the weekend.

I’ve not tried any Chateauneuf Du Pape 07’s yet but will try and hunt them down in NZ.

    • Dear Mr. V:
You mentioned “good with steak.” OK, please understand, I’m a wine ignoramus. I’m learning everything from watching you. So here’s my question: when I eat a steak, I want to completely enjoy the rich, deep, intense grill/steak/fat flavor, that whole thing. Salt and pepper, nothing else on it. So the wine I have with it – I don’t want a big competition. I don’t want a rich, intense, complex wine with my rich, intense complex steak. I want a light, thin, dry red wine – simple, clean. A waiter in Bodega Bay California thought I had 4 heads each with no brain when I said this. Is he right?

Lol: “MMA fighter crying at the Lion King”. Classic!

Also, was a bit thrown when you said about the English Breakfast. Was imagining a load of sausage and bacon on the nose! I haven’t had strawberries and cream at breakfast myself, but maybe I should.

QOTD: As somewhat of a novice, I’ve never even tried a Chateauneuf Du Papes never mind the 2007. I’ll certainly keep an eye open for it, though. Seems like a winner to me.

QOTD: As a CKC I don’t really buy CNDP as they are usually around the 30-40 dollar a bottle range in England but you have convinced me to get one 07 for Christmas day – especially since you said they are leaner which can only be a good thing as far as I;m concerened when it comes to CNDP.

Nice show and very good wines. It’s just a shame you don’t ship abroad.
Do something about that!! Open a store in Europe, even better in Belgium and let Europeans enjoy the wines you rate.
      Please.

      QOTD. Didn’t drink 2007 yet.

    • Thanks for the 07 preview, something to be on the lookout for, and another reason why this show can be so valuable to the vaynernation. Glad that you were able to enjoy a high point average show. I sure did.
My wife was watching over my shoulder, which is rare, but got a good laugh out of the Lion King comment.

QOTD: We are grenache fans in general, but don’t get into much CDP, often because the reputable ones come at a price point that is too much for regular consumption. Special occasions are a different story. Have had the Telegraphe a couple of years ago and quite liked it. More recently have enjoyed Paul Autard, and will certainly look for his 07 (he makes a really nice Cote Du Rhone for about $12 here in VT, wicked QPR, you could probably sell it for $8!).

QOTD: This is blasphemy to say up here in VT, but I really get tired of hearing the constant pats and sox banter, so I hope the Jets kick ass and help keep the noise at bay.

The only 07 that I had at this point is White Vieux Télégraphe La Crau, which was fantastic. Really into white C9DP these days, so under the radar. In Canada, not a lot of reds (almost none) are available at this time. The only which were released are tiny number of cases of Clos St-Jean Combe des Fous and Clos St-Jean Deux Ex Machina, not been able to grab any of these. I’m looking for Beaucastel, every La Nerthe, Vieux Donjon, Clos des Papes and a lot from the selection i’ll be able to have.

    • Gary, I hope you are correct about the Jets. I live in New England and HATE the Pats.

My favorite piece so far, I love Chateauneufs. They are amazing and very well priced considering the high quality. What other red appelation provides so many classically rated red wines consistantly under $150?

As for the wines, I was nearly jumping for joy when I heard what you said about Parker. Imagine a Clos des Papes better than the 2005!? I am just excited now. That was the best wine I have ever had and it was only 3 years old at the time (I have since picked up a couple to age and I hope you did too!).

      Keep up the great work.
