88/100

line of the day -‘delightful little bugger’

Maybe it was just me but I got the impression GV was scoring these wines slightly higher than they deserved because he didn’t want to disappoint the Vayniacs who had bought them.

Its a nice idea.. hope you keep it up and that I can get one of the bottles sometime here in Belgium as well.
Good show indeed last time.. even grabbed a bottle of the roederer cristal 2002, the rose though, at a nice price (:

All 3 wines were unavailable in 3 of the major wine stores in the Memphis area and TN won’t allow for direct shipping via sites like winelibrary.com. Hopefully next time I can find at least one of the 3 wines, or you can get the liquor shipping/distribution laws changed in TN 🙂

Great Concept, Buy and share the tasting notes…

Gary I’m writing to you from a border town in Mexico very close to San Diego, I’ve enjoyed you show for long now and you have made me venture out of my comfort zone in regards to California Wines (Reds in particular cabernet) I now seem to prefer blends more that I used to. I’m blessed to live in an area where 90% of the Mexican wine is produced (Guadalupe Valley) so fo me to visit a vineyard is a short 40 minute drive, Mexico produces very good wines the are some very notable ones but unfortunately for us (Mexicans)45% of the price is Taxes as it is classified as an alcoholic beverage so a decent bottle on the cheap side is around 26 Dlls, but being on the border I can go to the US and purchase much lower priced wine that is at least 50% cost of a Mexican counterpart, Question to you have you ever tried any of the Mexican wines from Guadalupe Valley?

Thank you for Giving us all another perspective in to the Wine World..

  • I like the everyday priced wines that turn out to be surprisingly good! Heading over to corkd.com now to see comments from those who tasted along.

  • Excellent show Gary. I can’t wait to join in, next time I hope.
I’m not paying shipping on a 10$ bottle of wine, but I have a bunch of good wine shops here in Napa, so hopefully I can find what I need.

Hey Gary, thanks for all your help with this episode. I have a feeling you taped all the episodes for this week in one day, right? You have the same shirt on and your voice is trashed from the Jets game. I hope you keep up this format. I just reviewed the Zen of Zin (which I found at a divey liquor store next door to my daughter’s karate dojo here in Brooklyn!) on corkd.com. I’ll hit the other bottles when they arrive next week from winelibrary.com. Go Raiders!

Gary, thanks for doing this. It reminds me of the good old days of WLTV.

QOTD: You and I are already drinking buddies from like 2 years ago when you took over Cork’d. 😛

I only had the Zin available here in PA and my thoughts were on par with yours, although you may have liked it a little more than me. Great show even though I live in a state with backwards laws.

  • Chris & Mandy

    Gary,

Great show! Made a great evening of just the 3 of us(or 6 add in the dog & 2 cats)

We met you when you came to Cleveland for the book tour(we were the ones sporting the Vayniac T-shirts and wrist-bands)

Keep the Friday tastings coming. But we do miss laid back friday on the couch.

Chris – Pallazzo Della Torre 2005(couldn’t get ’06) 90 points was $24.99 retail. Not high on the value meter.
    – Zen of Zin 88

Mandy – Pallazzo Della Torre 2005 87 points
    – Zen of Zin 89+

    Thanks Again!

Long time lurker here – I was really excited about finding the wines for this show – searched multiple places (grocery stores and a Total Wine) for the reds but all I could find were 2006 Ravenswood Zins – I’ll keep on the lookout for the ’07 Zen of Zins, but hopefully next Friday’s selections will be available for purchase.

Cool episode Gary, like the new approach to tasting along by letting us know on Monday. Never was a big fan of the Ravenswood zin’s I’ve had. However I had their Dickerson vineyard recently and was surprised that I like it quite a bit for its price point. Even evolved quite bit in the glass.
    qotd:sonicfallout
Gary, how about tackling a vin jaune episode? Or doing one on tasting those Napa charbono’s out there?

Great new idea! Living in the Keys is tough to get wines you have on the show but have had the Zin before on one of my many road trips. I like all the Ravenwoods wines for everyday drinking, but wouldn’t go out of my way to get them. Awesome new show format keep it up and I will try and join along in the future!

    Thanks for all you do!

Geared up for Oktoberfestivities and missed acquiring the wine; but hey, it is archived forever.

Thanks to the staff, Mott, GV, and all the good people providing thoughtful insights.

Wow Gary, just occured to me you’ve really had Ravenswood on here WLTV alot over the years.
How about just one episode with a vin jaune?
Even if you hate it I bet you’d still be the only one who’s done that on their wine show.

  • Well, since I couldn’t find these (I went to 3 retailers) I will have to take your word for them.

QOTD: my corkd username is oscarfalcon, only have one wine there, it’s a new account.

Of these 3 wines I am curious about the Zen of Zin mostly. Good show.

I’ll be back with my reviews.

    Cheers!
