88/100

line of the day -‘delightful little bugger’

Maybe it was just me but I got the impression GV was scoring these wines slightly higher than they deserved because he didn’t want to disappoint the Vayniacs who had bought them.

Thanks for bringing on the editor of Wine & Spirits, Joshua Greene. Twas an intriguing two-parter.

This Friday tasting is a great idea. If you’re taking requests, we just had a white Priorat that brings some serious funk. Mas d’en Compte Priorat White. Interesting and awesome.

Gary, we live in northeastern Bergen County, NJ and we visited FOUR wine shops and a grocery store and the only wine we were able to find was the 2007 Ravenswood Zen of Zin. Three of the wine shops had the 2005 Allegrini, but not the 2006. We’re going to see if we can’t find the other 2 at a couple of other locations during the week.

Gary, did you taste the Cristal on the second day? I’d be interested to hear what you thought if you did. I have never had a problem finishing a bottle of Champagne, and probably never will, but I would think something like a vintage Krug could benefit from some time in a decanter. I also think I might enjoy a Champagne of that caliber more without the bubbles so I could get better aromatics when swirling.

But unfortunately I’ve had a crazy hustling week and didn’t get a chance to get these wines. Love the idea though so I’ll try next time. Thanks.

Hey Gary, this was an awesome ep. I love the interaction it brings. I’m disappointed that not more peeps have commented. Please do this again, maybe go with the 2005 Geyser Peak Cab Sauv (my fav cab).

The Zin was the only one I found. I didn’t get the burnt rubber on it, but then again my nose is probably pretty burned out of the sulfur smell since I’ve been sanitizing with it all week while making wine.

QOTD: http://corkd.com/people/adam976/ — I’ll review and score the Zin tomorrow (Sunday) when your influence has time to fade.

I like the idea of a “taste-a-long” but didn’t get a chance to grab the wines. I used cork’d a few times in the past, and will check it out again. I hope the new version has more visibility of what has been tasted without doing any specific search. I also hope there is a way to find people geographically nearby so maybe we can get together and make up some local tasting groups. Gary– if anyone can do it, YOU CAN, because you CRUSH IT>

You’re already linked. I use Cellar Traker for my wine inventory and notes. I see they can be imported to Corked, but I’m not going to import evertime I add wines or post a new reveiw because I’m drinking from my “cellar”. Can you make it easy for the two sites to “talk” to each other just as many other networking sites cross post things?

Eric at CT may have to program that into Cellar Tracker; just as I can automatically tweet-out with new tasting notes, purchases, etc. Thanks Gary.

Unfortunately I had already bought my quota before this Monday’s announcement so I was not able to jump in on any of these. I do however think that this is a awesome concept. Even if you can’t keep it up as a weekly (or even regular) event do try to do it at least from time to time.

I had actually seen the Zen in the store but had discounted it, I will have to see about getting it soon. The Allegrini however really caught my attention. I will have to see if I can track it down somewhere.

  • Gary,

The Palazzo Della Torre is one of my fav IGT wines… the little Italian restaurant near the house serves this wine and there are some interesting things that should be noted:

    1. The corks on these wines have a ~25% failure rate so don’t attempt to store them long term (also might be an issue for on-line sales…)

    2. They taste better the next day (don’t decant, but let sit for 1-2 hours open) and you might break into the 90 pt range. You suggested doing this on a recent episode, might be a fun opportunity to re-taste.

    Thanks,
    jeff

We tasted Zen of Zin along with you all. It was on sale too so we bought two. We had no luck finding the other two in time. Thought the Zin tasted very good at the price point. The finish was a little weak for us. We finished to whole bottle so will not get to taste the next day.

I live in Texas and Zin is always our go to pick for something to pair with ribs or any kind of BBQ really. Good to see your on board with the Zin and BBQ bandwagon.
