Loved this episode. I am a big fan of the dolcetto and feel its great quality for the dollar. My all time favorite wine is an Amarone. I also had an awesome 2001 Ascheri Barolo. But hands down Amarone changed my life in the wine world.

    All the best!

I don’t think I’ve tried a Dolcetto before, or I didn’t know I was trying it. I think I’ll grab one for my blind tasting. Trying to introduce friends (and myself) to new grape varieties and wine styles.

    Thanks for the education!

Would be *hilarious* if the glass from a good wine came back empty from the guy on the other side of the camera.

Anyway, keep up the sniff and riff.

Very informative episode. I’ve been wanting to explore more non-Barolo/Barbaresco wines from the region. The Barolos and Barbarescos are a little out of this CKC’s price range and are not very approachable in their youth. Dolcettos I shall seek.

  • As I am very biased toward Italian wine, I will limit it to 3…
    Bussola’s Amarones
    2000 Nicolis Amarone Ambrosan
2000 Illuminati Montepuciano d’Abruzzo Termane Pieluni

QOTD…. I still have to try many more but right now I would have to say Brunello and I’ve had some excelent Cali Barberas. Good show G.V. kind of old school.

I’m a big fan of Italian Red’s, especially IGT’s. I love all the interesting native grapes from the South aswell. But my Fav wine is Icardi “Samir” DOC Lange 2006 60% Dolcetto, 20% Cabernet and Nebbiolo.

Gary: Loved the enthusiasm today. But since when are there farms in OK city??
Mott: Could you back up on the zoom a bit? We can’t read the chalk board any more.

QOTD: Dolcetto, actually- I did an Italian tasting in August and the Dolcetto was by far the stand-out best. The one I tried (can’t remember the producer/vintage) was much less tannic than anything you tried today.

QOTD: The ghost hit the add comment key 🙂 So far it’s the 2000 Andrea Oberto Vignetto Albarella Barolo (thank you) but I’m hoping that in 2012 it’s going to be the 2003 Paolo Bea Sagrantino.

Wow, it’s been a long time. Way to busy. Trying to slow down. Aglianico from Taurasi. Just had a wonderful bottle of 2000 Don Anslemo from Paternoster. We love to drink them young. Mastroberardino Taurasi has always been one of our favorites. You haven’t lost a step Gary. Awesome as always.
