I was so excited to come onto the site this morning and see Docetto first thing when my page loaded… made my day. Thanks Gary! I think my favorite wine at the moment is a Nebbiolo, I haven’t tasted too many lately but what i have tasted i have really enjoyed!

  • Great episode, Gary.

QOTD: Castellani La Cattura has so far been the best, though I need to increase the field a bit.

My family and I often share a bottle of Valpolicella or Sangiovese when out at Italian restaurants (and sometimes at home), but we’ve never done a Dolcetto. What’s strange is that we’ve had great luck with the Sangioveses we’ve ordered, but have yet to like a single Chianti, despite being the exact same varietal.

I will definitely take a look at some Dolcettos now to see what all the fuss is about.

Nice episode. Focused, energetic, and interesting. I like the “bullcrap Chianti”, but Dolcetto is good, too.

QOTD: I haven’t had that many. 2004 Da Vinci Chianti Classico Riserva, probably. I need to try more Italian wines, though, before I can give you any kind of real answer.

Hey Gary, nice show. I’ve always eyed those dolcettos since they are such a good price point typically, have yet to try one but i might soon.

QOTD: Some of my favorite italian reds to date: 2. Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2005, Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino 2001, and a valpolicella that i had about a year ago can’t remember what it was, very solid i think it was about 18 bones.

QOTD: Chianti has good memories for me. Currently, I love Super Tuscans, specificaly Castello de Terricio Luicaia 2003 (cab, merlot, petit vedot). It is pricey though.

QOTD: A question that can’t be answered. It depends on the wine, the food, the day and time of day, the season etc. For me it might be a sagrantino one day, a barbera another, maybe an elegant Valpolicella, a Chianti Classico Riserva, an expensive Brunello, Barolo or Barbaresco. Or maybe a blend involving French varietals.

But if I had to pick one, it should be a sangiovese based wine.
