Good, tight episode, like the new shorter format

QOTD: BOR-GONE, BOR-DOE, TOS-CANA, and Random domestic natural/biodynamic endeavours. Perhaps CAB-Francs form Loire. Had a Crescendo Pinot last night and it was halfway decent for $13 on sale, pretty good actually. Had a GREAT neddiolo from Pietro Rinaldi that plus the Sauv Republic SB from Stellenbosch have been my fav red and white from the last 2 weeks. Resalso from Emilio Moro was good too for 12$. Too much 411…too bad.

Lovin’ this quick format…and thanks for the tip on Torrontes. I’ve been thinking about buying a couple lately – I guess I at least know a couple NOT to try.

Thanks for bringing back the VVT…I forgive you. I was beginning to think it was going to become another of the forgotten (good) ideas (i.e. laid back Friday, other scotch tastings, etc). Maybe you could stream one of these live some day, to make it even more virtual? Just an idea…

Enjoy the book tour, finally preordered mine this weekend. We’ll cut you some slack the next couple of weeks – looks like a hellacious tour.

QOTD: Looking forward to drinking some big cabs with some big meats this winter.

    Hey Gary,

I have only tasted a few torrontes & had the same results as you did on this episode. Bad or drinkable but not good.
Mott— you listed the wrong wines for friday below.

QOTD- Looking forward to some great ’07 california cabs– first taste before they go in the cellar for a while, and some ’04 brunellos.

  • I?m in South Carolina and today also was our first brisk day. 74 degrees is brisk for us. I would have to say my favorite wine to accompany some cool weather, if a Syrah put out by a winery just down the road called Old Goat, by La Bella Amie warmed in a crock pot with cranberry and cinnamon spice.

QOTD — fewer whites and pinks, more reds!

QOTD: Great question, I’ve actually been pondering this ever since the weather cooled off a couple weeks ago. Not a specific varietal per se, but I’m in love with leather and tobacco flavors, meaty and gamey and earthy as well. I guess that would be Southern Rhone GSM type wines, but I’d like to find something under 15 bones that can bring this sort of action, and I don’t know that the Southern Rhone can hit that price point. Maybe I’ll find something on Cinderellawine.com that can do it for me.

Love the format, and like the renewal of the taste-alongs.

How sad that the show I come back to WLTV is such a sad show… well, the wines anyway. Gary… you’re on as usual and will keep me here! *o/*

I’ve only had the Zolo Torrontes (which I thought was quite yummy) and that’s the only white varietal I’ve enjoyed. Could it just be that wineries don’t know how to finesse this little guy?

QOTD: I’m looking for a deep dark earthly red that’ll make me fall in love with it… bring ’em on, Gary!!

  • Hey Gary

Good show, thanks. I haven’t drunk much Torrontes myself; I must give it a go, though if you’re worried about the market flooded with bad impoorts I’m guessing Hong Kong isn’t going to have a decent selection.

QOTD: Autumn means lovely 25 degree days in Hong Kong. I’m looking forward to trying a few nes Chardonnays (something I’ve avoided recently, but want to get back into)and maybe a bit more Nebbiolo.

    Cheers
    Andrew

Whats up with the Wines for Friday’s show, in the Vid you said it was gonna be a Chardonnay battle but below it says an Albarino vs La Yunta Torrentes, assume thats a mistake.
QOTD – Looking forward to drinking a Andre and Jaques Beaufort 1990 Vintage Champagne soon.

Tried the Alamos Torrontes and one other and was not impressed with either; have to agree with you Gary–I’d rather spend my $$ on Albarinos and Verdejos for something a little different.

QOTD: looking forward to some Paso Robles Syrahs and vintage Ports as the temperature plummets and the snow starts to fly up here in New England!

The same white and red that I know I’ll enjoy. Both are Spanish.

Too bad about the Torrontes. Maybe the price range is catching up to the quality?

QOTD: Red – CA Pinot Noir for the warmth, Earth, and spice. White – Alsace Gewurztraminer for the same reasons as the red.

  • My man. Sorry about the Torrontes though I think the Alamos 10-15 bone range Torrontes works quite well. Kinda yummy.

QOTD: Cotes du Rhone or Languedoc reds for me this Fall season. Or even Tasmanian champagnes? I hear they are wonderful.

    Cheers!

P.S. I will see you either at American U or VA.

QOTD: Really looking to drinking aged Chateauneuf du Pape and Bordeaux (*not* just any Cabernet).

Really like the “return to roots” tight format – very high QPR (info to time taken to view it). Shame that the Torrontes were (pardon the pun) lemons.

As it happens, I’ve just enjoyed a glass of hot milk with a slug of Kahlua which also works great over breakfast cereal. I know you said wine but what the heck.
