  • Hey Gary,

I saw your interview on Changing Course, “Money has been neutralized by the connection of people through the new online world.”

I like that… No more excuses!

    I love brunello.

QOTD- Ciacci Piccolomini D’Aragona is my favorite Brunello. I have 3 of their reserve 2001 waiting for the right meal and the right company.

Great show glad to see you liked them all. Annoying picture taking in the background but when you are a STAR like you, I know it is hard ot keep the papparazzi away

Well… believe it or not one of my favourite Brunellos is La Colombina!!! I love the sour cherry flavour, I crave acidity, and La Colombina is one of the Brunellos that bring some serious sourness. Amazing episode!

  • John Blue Label

Great Show GV, and good luck with the Book!
I’m a huge Brunello fan, and have a bunch of 2004 on order. Il Poggione and Talenti are probably my favorites thus far, with 2001 being wonderful. I also love the Casanova di Neri Tenuto Nuovo 2001. I am hoping that the 2004 wines from these producers are just as good as the 2001. If they are…heaven!

Hi Gary, I’ll be looking for the Colombina tomorrow. QOTD: I tasted a 2001 Cerbaiona when traveling in Finland. That’s the day I became an Italian wine fan.

Great episode Gary. I haven’t tasted any of the 3 brunellos that you tasted- But I just came back from tuscany in August and carried back 2 cases of wine. Most of it was brunellos, with a few Chianti’s.

QOTD- My brunello experience was 2 days of private tours in tuscany- I tasted lots of Brunellos. My favorites were from some smaller producers. I think I linked the Lazzeretti the most, with San Polino a close second. Lazzeretti is new, 2001 was there first vintage, rated 95 by Parker. San Polino is excellent, organically farmed, with a wonderful winemaking family to show you around.

Uccilella 1997 and 2001 are 2 of my favs. Brunellos are amazing in general. I wish they were cheaper or I were richer. Have a couple 2004 but don’t want to drink too young. Sounds like that might not be an issue.

    Great show Gary!

I have collected the il poggione Riserva wines since 1997, as well as lisini, regular and ugolaia from 1997. These wines really shine with 10 years of age, although 04 is the first vintage I can recollect that is so approachable in their youth. Ciacci – vigna pianrosso is also a favorite.
Poggione is much more towards sour cherries than lisini. But lisini 97 on magnum is unbeatable!

  • Gary,

First, Congrats on the book release. I truly hope it goes to #1.

What happened to your defense? I am sure that Braylon was partying it up after the game like a rock star because he doesn’t give a crap about winning. He is just glad that they glossed him on Monday night. Also, just because he drew a BS flag on the long pass at the end doesn’t mean that he didn’t drop the ball…cause he did.

QOTD: The one that stands out in my memory is Casisano Columbaio 95′ Brunello di Montalcino Reserve.

QOTD: 1997 Sugarille Brunello di Montalcino. I bought a magnum at a charity auction in 2004. Drank it at a family reunion with my sis & bro in law. This was absolutely the best wine I’ve ever had in my life. Sadly, if you can find it now it is horribly expendy.

Got my Crush It today…can’t wait to read it!

Great show . I bought a case of 1995 Castelgiocondo at the winery after a spectacular lunch-tasteing (arranged by Tony Terlato). I still have 4 bottles.

QOTD is easy, because i just had one brunello (2x) and it is -as you say- downright delicious.
we’re talking about 2001 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino. And after seeing this episode, i can’t wait for tasting any brunello of the 2004 vintage.

Good job, and thanks a ton for providing us w/ constantly great wine.
oh, and btw, my first comment ever.

All the best from (usually Hamburg, Germany ? but because of a little friendsy-friends visiting action) … San Fran, CA!

    Jörg
