Awesome episode! Canadian wines seem unique.

What do you think makes them special?

I don’t know Canada well– My impression (10 yrs ago) in niagra area was overpriced tourist trap- maybe just the area I was in. I would like to try an Okinogan (spelling) wine, But love the Inniskillan Ice Wine.

QOTD- Last wine- Finca Sandoval- I liked it very much, had a little complexity, but I like a little more. My score +91

Congratulations on #2 NYT bestseller. Next week #1

QOTD…Love the great north. I’m in the Niagraa-on-the-Lake region about once a year and have been to numerous wineries up that neck of the woods. Ten years ago, it was fantastic. With the exchange rate being much more unfavorable these days, wines that should be cheap, aren’t that cheap to the American crowd. I’m not convinced that Ontario will ever be known for their Cabs, or Merlots. Their whites are a different story, sticky wines, et al.

OK, I’m a bit of a lurker, I must admit, although I have placed a comment or two from time to time. Last night I had a friend over for dinner and since it was a weeknight, I didn’t open anything special. 2004 Rovert Mondavi Napa cab. I think the release price was in the mid-twenties. I was suprised that overall it wasn’t too bad. Good, ripe fruit. Typical of 2004 vintage. I would score it about 88 points. Congrats on the success.

    QOTD: Love Canada. Especially Montreal.
I used to love the exchange rate. But now it’s the same as ours..
QOTD: Agua de Piedra Melbac. I liked it for the $7 it cost. No idea how to rate wines on my own.

Canada is a great country and Toronto is fantastic!!!

My last wine was an australia shiraz cabernet 89 Vineyards and it was a regular 80 point, had the plum raspberry and black pepper in the nose but very hollow wine without mid palate and no finish, the alcohol was too high and did not show the fruit in the palate…..

Post another Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 show and more California vino

    Hey GV
I was at the Faculty Club and enjoyed your talk big time. Looks like you are at the Park Hyatt, small rooms and whats up with the plastic shower curtain?
    Check out the spa!
FYI….It is pronounced “cave” springs,as in where Yogi lives, caveman etc.
    QOTD…Volpaia Citto, 12 bones, 06 or 07 I think…85 points and good with pizza

QOTD: Don’t mind Canada. Makes a nice hat for the USA.

QOTD II: Arrowood 2004 Syrah, Le Beau Melange…Pretty good effort. I tend to like what they do with their Syrahs. Like the Saralee’s Vineyard a bit more since they coferment Viognier in that one. 89 pts for this one.

Looking forward to Gary V next Thursday in Chicago!
