Awesome episode! Canadian wines seem unique.

What do you think makes them special?

Funny ending! I’ve never been to Toronto, although my sister and my parents love it. They said it’s got a great downtown area, where you can walk to everything, tons of shopping, and some good restaurants. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Canadian wine either, but I’ll be on the lookout.

Last wine I had, a Beaujolais from 2008–they’re trying to sell them off cheap before the new crop! Now that I’ve tried one that’s a year old, I’m curious to try a fresh one this year. I actually liked the Beaujolais the second night, but the first night I couldn’t drink it at all.

You look worn out but happy. Glad you get a chance to go home for a few days. Have a great Halloween!

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to film this episode. I appreciate every one (and they have damn good lately). My opinion of Canada is…. Great Country. The people are friendly, the view is scenic, and the politics are rational. Good place. I can’t imagine visiting Toronto for the first time and not going up in the CN Tower. The last wine I had was Chateau Plincette, Pomerol, 2003. I gave it an A.

  • Tim

Good show, love the gary cam. Your filming skills are imporving sir!

QOTD: I don’t know much about Canada, but I would love to visit. They produce some solid wines too.

Hey Gary…thanks for setting aside a moment to put together an end of the week episode…good casual friday episode and i liked the blair witch style camera work hah.

I’ve never been to Canada nor have I explored its wines yet, but I’ll have to make it a point to do so soon.
Last wine I tried was Luna Beberide Mencia 05, 90WE and it was available for 12 bones. As a novice wine-drinker, I’m not yet at the point of being able to assign a number rating…just trying to expand my palate and explore wines from all over.

Hope Misha has a fun first halloween!

If you think Toronto is gorgeous I want to know what you think of Montreal. I was there last January and thought it was an amazing city.

QOTD: Canada is a nation that we in the states should have more of a connection to than we do. Toronto is a really neat city.

QOTD2: Stags’ Leap Petite Syrah (I believe 06) I would rate it around 90 – 91, I just started drinking wine so I don’t have that much to rate it to. It was a good wine, decanting helped it a lot and it went really well with the Stake I had.

  • Cool…. I love Canada….but since I just got back from Sab Juan yesterday I can’t really say I wish I was there. It’s cold enough for me here in Da Dirty Jerz or as I like to say dadirtyjerz.com

Just for the record…I miss you too Brother…!!!

QOTD: Love it. Gotta get to Toronto. I have been to Ottawa, Quebec, and Montreal. I love the Fairmont hotels up there. They are mostly historic types and old but very cool and extreamly nice.

  • Sorry about my last comment, it went out without me finishing it, A Thousand Apologies. NUMBER TWO !! Wow, Congratulations Gary Vee.

I have not tasted Cave Spring wines, another one for my ever growing list of “to drink” wines. The only Canadian wines I’ve had are ice wines.

QOTD: Good memories from Canada actually; when I was 10 my father took me to the Royal Ontario Museum and when I was 18 I visited Montreal, both excellent experiences.

  • Thanks GV for doing this, always love it. Looks like a very small room there, and funny “tour”. Still loved the champange saber-opening last week.

QOTD: Love both Canada (Detroit’s neighbor to the south) and Toronto as well which is truly a world-class city.

Last wine I had was a Cava (from Spain of course) and I gave it an 85-86.

  • U.S. Eh?

I was born and raised in the Toronto area and go back every year. Can’t beat summers in Canada!

Last wine: Black Bart Syrah 2005 … really good stuff. Easily 92+.

  • Samk

Glad you took the time in Toronto to give us a little update on what you’re doing over there.

QOTD: I had the chance to go to Canada when I was visiting Niagara Falls with my friends but stupid ol’ me forgot my passport so I stayed behind while everyone else made the trip across. Agh.

QOTD2: 06 Colonial Estate Explorateur Shiraz from the Cindy deal. I won’t give it a score, because the cork disintegrated when I tried to pop. The wine was fine, just would have enjoyed it more without cork particles floating around.

    Long, long, long time lurker.

QOTD: D. Zind Humbrecht, Riesling 2006…really enjoyed flavor profile, especially the finish. 90+.

    Keep doing your thing.

Good episode, we miss you as well.

Pretty blah about Canada. Never been there, people that I work with from there are normally very nice, no complaints.

My last wine was a Kim Crawford (Marlborugh, New Zealand) Sauvignon Blanc – love it. But before that I had a 2008 Oak Grove (Paso Robles, California) Sauvignon Blanc, that while not in the style I really enjoy, it was serviceable on it’s own merit.

    Castasera Amarone 2005 …I give it a 90

    love ya,

Gary, You look like you could use a few days off… sounds like you’re having fun though.

Last wine I opened was the Petite Petit. I like it. For me, I’d say it’s about an 85. Doesn’t have enough depth but it does have a nice fruity jammy flavor and just enough spice to remind me it’s a syrah… a bit too much alcohol in the taste to score higher for me though.

QOTD: our mid-week wine was Lesec Bouquet Cotes Du Rhone that I’d rate an 88 and a screaming value at under 10 bones

Toronto est une très belle ville, mais leur club de hockey est vraiment horrible, cette année. (Go Habs go !)

Dernier vin: La Vendimia Palacios Remondo Rioja 2006, sur trois jours. Très cuir, épices, goudron les 2 premiers jours, le fruit sort un peu plus le troisième jour. Pas mauvais, un peu unidimensionnel sinon. 85.

Well, since I’m from Vancouver my opinion on my home and native land is, of course, biased, but I am more than happy to be a born and bred Canadian from the beautiful province of BC. As for my last wine, it was a 2008 Okanagan Valley CedarCreek Ehrenfelser paired with mango butter chicken. Very nice combination. The wine is an excellent example of Okanagan terroir, great on the nose and in the mouth, with lots of flavour and length. I’d give it an 89.

    QsOTD:

I went to Toronto when I was five years old. As we were walking through the underground, I got burned on the arm by someone swinging a cigarette in their hand. I remember being upset, but we did eventually find some ice.

As for the wine, I just tried a $3.99 Torrontes from Trader Joe’s, which I’ll be doing a review of over on cork’d, but I’m giving it an 82 – nice aroma, but way to light bodied and not enough acidity for my palate.
