lines of the day – ‘I’m not Sherlock Holmes or Columbo but I would say that there’s Syrah in this wine’ and ‘what happens when you get immigrant mentality…you win’

Great show, GV’s imagination and finely tuned nose and palate continue to amaze. He picks up a corked wine on the tail end of a quick sniffy sniff. Phenomenal

Yea, that’s what we’re gonna get with PN from non traditional areas. A kinda globalized mix up resulting in non traditional flavor profiles. Ironically, we sold a Syrah form Chile, $15 range, and I thought of it as very Pinot like, and I enjoyed it, and knowing the caveat, offered it to the right people who were looking for a wine to do that sort of thing. Was great for spices of an Indo-/Asian nature.
I’ve also had Italian Pinot Neros, even upper tier ones, that wer simply dreadful, let alone had zero ageability. Yuck.
Hate being such a strong word, I don’t like Febreeze, which my wife loves to spray, as if it cleans anything. Petrochemicals have long ago demonstrated not only their usefullness, but also their toxicity, and I hate perfumes, and chemicals all over my house. Pazzzz on the carcinogens, thank you.
Sorry bout yer luck today. We know Argentina (and Catena)is still great! From Ward Lay’s (of the Frito-Lay family) Andeluna brand, to the wines of Susan Balbo, there’s surely tons of good and even great stuff out there’n nem hills.

QotD – good Q! back in the 80’s, Physical Attraction. more recently, most of the Ray of Light album. a soft spot for the contemplative moment of “Little Star”. “Power of Goodbye” is good too.

Man rough show for Argentina, I think you need to hop right back on and do another Argentina show though…revaluate that last wine with a good bottle. So you recording 5 shows straight?? you might have a contact tipsy by Friday!

QOTD: I think it’s got to be Holiday, probably because of Adam Sandlers version in The Wedding Singer

Very very nice to know how to ID a corked wine. Though, how do you ID a cooked wine? I thought I might’ve had one once (tasted like sweat, salt and alcohol) but couldn’t be sure.

QOTD: The only answer to this question is “Like a Prayer.”

You should have got another bottle of Catena Alta Malbec at that moment. This wine is amazing and would have saved the show!

I also think you were too hard on the Luigi Bosca Pinot. I know that wine and I find it good. Pinot in Argentina is kind of that way, at least the ones I’ve tasted are.

QOTD: “Get Together”, from “Confessions on a Dance Floor.”

I had the Catena Alta from different vintages in the past few years and they were all pretty good–uncorked or is it non-corked? To me, taste-wise, they tend to be between a Shiraz and a structure cab. I would rate them around 90-92, highly quaffable if not exceptional.

Now the various Zapata’s are totally a different matter. These are wines to be taken seriously. While they lack the subtleties and elegance of the best Bordeaux, they more than make up in concentration and power. And at 1/2 to 1/3 of the price, they are well worth investigating.
