lines of the day – ‘I’m not Sherlock Holmes or Columbo but I would say that there’s Syrah in this wine’ and ‘what happens when you get immigrant mentality…you win’

Great show, GV’s imagination and finely tuned nose and palate continue to amaze. He picks up a corked wine on the tail end of a quick sniffy sniff. Phenomenal

Argentina makes some ok wines – you just have to keep trying. QOTD – I celebrate her entire catalog.

Ohhhhh nooooo! Corked! Well, it happens but unfortunately I have yet to have that experience. I was hoping and expecting mega scores and kudos for these wines. Oh well, I’ll stick with my Alamos Torrontes and it brings to light how special the Italian white episode was yesterday and thank goodness I bought some. 🙂

QOTD: My all-round favorite has to be “La Isla Bonita” with the bubble-gum “Vogue” a close second due to Madonna’s outfit in the video. Yikes! 🙂

    Cheers!

P.S. Can we have a prediction on the Colts-Pats game for Sunday night?

QOTD: The ultimate 80’s dance song: Into the Groove

As long as we’re on the subject of Argentina, try a Dona Paula sometime. I’ve got one in my cabinet and want to let it go for a while.

  • Why didn’t you stop taping and open another Catena Alta? Nice to know more about corked wine, but we were set up for evaluation on high-dollar, high-altitude-grown wine and didn’t get it.

Interesting, too, your take on the 2006 Lamadrid Malbec Reserva. I haven’t tasted it, but Parker’s Jay Miller rated it an 88 and Wine Spectator scored it at 87. You rated it 61. Maybe you poured a bad bottle or had a bad day (or bad second taping on the same day). Goes to show: different palates, different points. More evidence to taste for yourself.

QOTD: Favorite Madonna song? Jeez, what a concept.

QOTD: I avoid Madonna like the plague, but Tarantino’s interpretation of “Like a Virgin” (opening credits of Reservoir Dogs) is a thing of genius and beauty.

  • A shame about the Catena…I too have tried some $8-$15 with some decent ratings…I would grab another few and give it another shot as per previous suggestions.

QOTD: I’m generally not a Madonna fan, but if I had to choose, it would be Borderline or Material Girl.

A Luigi Bosca pinot? While I never had the pinot, I have enjoyed many a bottle of their Reserva Malbec. Retails around $15.00, and is well worth it.
While todays video was, well, a little flat,
Argentina produces some big time wines, made by big-time wine makers, and an excellent price point.
I hope your viewers don’t get turned away based on todays submissions.
    And,
    Madonna?
    Sorry, not a fan.

Wow – never seen a corked wine on WLTV. I guess the percentage of corked wine really is about 1% or less.
