lines of the day – ‘I’m not Sherlock Holmes or Columbo but I would say that there’s Syrah in this wine’ and ‘what happens when you get immigrant mentality…you win’

Great show, GV’s imagination and finely tuned nose and palate continue to amaze. He picks up a corked wine on the tail end of a quick sniffy sniff. Phenomenal

That Pinot sounds interesting. I’m finding a major difference between this varietal and the terrior from which they come from. Something about this grape and its subtle to major differences intrigue the hell out of me.

    QOTD: Anything old school.

Fine I’ll admit it. I had a huge crush on Madonna in the 80’s. So what!!

  • Sorry the wines this week did not bring anything close to thunder. Thanks for the information on what to look for in a “corked” wine. I love it, always educating us vaniacks.

QOTD: My favorite Madonna song is “Jump” from her Confessions On A Dance Floor album. The song has a great beat to get you going and the music video is hot with some sweet freestyle street acrobatics. I even decided to link it up for you to enjoy.

Exasperated by the synthetic, soulless Lamadrid malbec, you exclaimed “Why not let the vineyard speak?!”

Yes indeed and hallelujah! Let the vineyard speak!

It’s a creed all winemakers should live by.

  • Haha, most entertaining WLTV I’ve seen in a long time at least!

Thanks Gary, too bad none of the wines ended up showing…

I agree with Javier. I would really like to see another argentinean wine show with just a little more research effort put on the selection of the wines. Maybe that way we can get more from the terroir.
For example, if you want a Pinot Noir from Argentina that reflects what’s really going on with this grape down here then try some Pinot from the patagonia (Neuquen or Rio Negro regions).
and if you want some serious spicy, floral and mineral terroir driven Malbec (and not some fruit bomb) then go on and try some high altitude Mendoza Malbecs from the Uco Valley.

Here are 10 argentinean wines I really like and think are worth tasting.

    -Fabre Montmayou Malbec Gran Reserva.
-Alta Vista Alto 2005 (Malbec-Cabernet Sauv.)
    -Luigi Bosca Gala 1 (Malbec-Petit Verdot-Tannat)
    -Colome Torrontes
    -Mora Negra (Malbec-Bonarda).
    -Gran Dante Malbec.
    -Nieto Cadus Malbec 2002.
-Weinert Merlot or Cavas de Weinert (Bordeaux Blend) or Weinert Malbec Estrella.
    -Saurus Patagonia Select Pinot Noir
-Bodega del Fin del Mundo Special Blend 2006

    QOTD: like a virgin.

I wouldn’t call it a bad show – it is good to see a bad wine sometimes so I know what not to buy!
