lines of the day – ‘this really does smell like a sheep pooped in your nose’ and ‘I feel like “my tummy’s burning” like Ralph on the Simpsons’

Another winner, GV really on point during these back-to-back taped episodes. Mott looking for the correct response at the end and floundering as usual

  • Good show on the Zins… for turkey day I’ll be in MD with family, probably opening a bottle of Washington state Syrah, and some Lemberger if I can find some around the DC area

Also disappointed with the Foxglove Zin, especially since I’ve been impressed by the QPR of their Chardonnay.

  • Good show. I like Zins a lot, though don’t drink them as often as I used to.

    Great Show.

Was that a Freudian slip?? It is always a nice thing when a wine drops down it’s pants in your mouth and does some thong dancing. Not so great when it’s hairy though 😉

Haha, my sentiments exactly when I first saw your show, too over the top for me, I thought, but now I love to watch everyday. That’s how many things are for me though. I h8 it at first and then love it. There is a time restriction on that though, if I don’t love it by a year l8er, I never will. Holy crap, I just realized that I’ve been watching your show for about a year now. Congratulations on all of your success, Gary!!

QOTD: We were thinking about having a Thanksgiving dinner for our peeps who don’t have family here in the state. I will hopefully be bringing http://corkd.com/wine/view/73953-2007-barton-guestier-vouvray and http://corkd.com/wine/view/67406-2007-las-brisas if I can find them.

    Hi Gary,
QOTD: I’m staying home and having family and friends over. I will be supplying the wines which, as of yet, have not been decided on.
I’ve had the Foxglove zin twice with consistant notes and have not found it jammy(perhaps fruity) or disjointed. In fact, I’m not normally a zin fan, nor do I regularly agree with Parker, and have a tendency to lean toward austerity. Strangely enough, I recall an elegantly styled wine, almost unzinlike, with balanced ripe red fruit, some earthy elements, and virtually no heat from the alcohol. Oh well…maybe there are some off bottles out there or maybe my palate was(is) just out of whack. Also, the Foxglove chard is unoaked and quite delicious with creamy lemon and tropical fruit flavors and also has excellent acidic balance. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving.

@MURSO. Be nice to your relatives. Not everyone can be as much of a wine snob as you. I got the 2007 Brewer-Cliton Mount Carmel Pinot you suggested @85 bones and am saving it for something. Maybe a slightly underdone fresh caught natural wild-ass Salmon. What would you serve with it?
We go to Dry Creek Valley, north of the Russian River Valley, at least once or twice a year. It is THE place for BIG ASS ZINS! Bella is very good, or Mozzoco, Rafanelli and just about any place you stop there is killer.
I’ll try the Seqharo again, but as I remember, mostly a purdy bottle.

    Dude,

First post in a long while. First of all, you f-ing nailed it with the Gigondas/Vacqueyras rec for Thanksgiving! Always what I suggest for turkey.

This leads into QOTD: At home in Ireland. Originally from Detroit, I live in Ireland and I have some of my family coming over from the US for Thanksgiving. A few other friends and my wife’s (Irish) family will be coming over, so we’ll have about 18-20 or so for dinner and to watch my Lions lose. I’m opening the Mas des Flauzieres Gigondas 2007.

Also, dude, SCREW Cali for cherry juice – you want to go to Treverse City, MI for that! Awesome cherry products (including some really nice Cherry “port” – I’ll send you some next time I’m home)!

One other thing: are you posting video of your address at WineFuture in Rioja? Word has it you ripped it up.

    Dave in Ireland

Thanks Giving. Almost forgot, since I’m in Japan the they dont celebrate TG out here. Probably sake… JK. Probably find a Spanish, Portugal or South Africa bottle because its been a little while since I’ve had any. Bye the way, still have yet to try Portugal wine. I find it easier here than I do in my hometown in the States.

Nice Zin show…. although I would like to have seen the Seghesio Home Ranch tasted, that is the bottling of the original Seghesio vines. Supposedly great juice.

I’m from Wrong Island and I have some very fond memories of Davis Peach Farm in Mt. Sinai, south of Port Jefferson. Now it is a McMansion Farm, sad. Apples are tricky with vino, there is an old saying, you buy wines tasted with an apple and sell them with cheese.

QOTD Bringing 2004 L’Evangile .. Unbelievably balanced wine and an incredible value compared to 03 and 05. Drinking really well right now. Gobble, gobble.
