line of the day – ‘Is it like, communism, for you in your mind’

Not the greatest chemistry between GV and the guest but that was mainly down to the slow, deliberate way the guest answered many of the questions. What he did do well, however, was to prize some quite personal reflections from Gary, and that doesn’t happen too often

The good Doctor is definitely a wine geek, but any parent that names a kid “Zander” has to be cool!

    Good work guys!

Dr. Vino provides quite a contrast to you Vaner, not sure he could hold my interest by himself; obviously knowledgeable, better stick to writing. Nice choice for holiday veritals.

Pretty good show, thanks. I was surprised with the result of the Fleurie and disappointed that neither of you spoke to the nuances of the various crus in Beaujolais that all carry their own appellations. I have always found Fleurie and Julienas to be the most feminine of the crus and as you were describing the wine, I sort of felt as though you were getting yourself ready for a Morgon or Moulin-a-Vent (the big boys in Beaujolais) what might have really let you down was the subtle terroir in what others might find an alluring and quirkily beautiful Fleurie. That’s just the way I thought about it. QotD: I will taste around 6 of the Pinot Noirs I have around, Roessler, Fess Parker, etc., most of which came from WL or Cindy.

  • Nice show with a pretty cool guest. Yes, much too “polite.”

QOTD: The annual Flowers Pinot that I take every year and, of course, whatever I get in the G-Man’s annual Thanksgiving surprise pack.

    Cheers!

I don’t leave a comment very often… just easier not to i guess… but every now and then there is a show that reminds me why this is the F@!#@est best wone place around (normally when shasha is on: )).

This time around, not only do you have a good guest on but he is someone that you could argue is a competitor and yet you treated him with the utmost respect and helped him build his brand. Too bad the wines weren’t a little better. Keep rockin’ the house.

QOTD: I’m thinking I’ll be opening a bottle of 1975 Klosterhofgut Wehlen Wehlener Abtei Riesling Auslese on Turkey day to celebrate that I am back together with my Aunt & Uncle for the holiday. I have not seen them since Thanksgiving 2005 and it will be so very good to see them again.

Interesting episode. I’ll definitely take a look at the Dr. Vino site.

Personally, I *try* to pay more attention to tasting notes than points, but it’s not easy. In most stores, for example, shelf-tags put notes in itty-bitty type and points in huge type. (I do know enough not to take points too seriously.)

QOTD: Nothing with dinner, maybe something at some point in the weekend.

QOTD – probably the Dr. Loosen Eroica because it is always such a hit with family members, but after one of the earlier shows this week I may break out a bottle of 2007 chateau nuef de pape to share with my father-in-law and my brother-in-law-in-law (my wife’s sister’s husband) both great wine lovers.

Nice qualification on the “addicted to acid” statement, Gary. You know your audience well! 🙂

QOTD: I doubt there will be any there.

SQOTD: I’ve only seen the Red Lexia in that size around my location.

It was kinda like Revenge of the Nerds in this episode. It was like the cool kid from high school (Gary) and the chief geek (Dr. Vino) sat down at the table 15 years later and chatted about a common interest. For someone who writes blog and clearly has opinions, I was surprised by the lack of clear and concrete answers your guest was able to generate without some coaxing. Not a bad interview, but not that interesting.
