line of the day – ‘Is it like, communism, for you in your mind’

Not the greatest chemistry between GV and the guest but that was mainly down to the slow, deliberate way the guest answered many of the questions. What he did do well, however, was to prize some quite personal reflections from Gary, and that doesn’t happen too often

Great guest… following him.. checked out his blog… good stuff…

QTOD: posted earlier this week… already asked.. but how could he know… 2006 Sea Smoke Southing, 2007 Rosenblum Rockpile, 2007 Melville Clone 76 Inox

sub-QOTD: wish one of them were Mags, but alas, no luck…

Great guest, he’s got another Twitter follower & although I’ve been by his blog on occasion, I’ll definitely be there more now! He reminded me a bit of my high school chemistry teacher, and can tell he’s insanely smart. My favorite part of the show was the very beginning/end when you both were just chatting.

QOTD: Haven’t decided yet, and no; it’ll be 750.

    Thanks, Guys. Good stuff.

QOTD: Going to a fixed course feast at a local restaurant serving the classic holiday fare w/a down-home twist. Knowing us, it’ll be bubbles to start and move on to a Zin or Syrah.

  • Great show with some cool (though seemingly disappointing) picks.

Dom Du Viking usually rocks! JD Headrick has made a pretty cool vid of the Viking and Mrs Viking… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itb5jiKJR80

QOTD: Farmer Fizz, All my vino is back in the ATL and will be shopping around Sonoma this weekend for BdB Grower Champagne. Big bottle’s of good fizz are tough to find in these parts. Buying 2 750’s

    Cru-Boo / the Boo-Juice rocks!

QOTD: Tishbi Chenin Blanc, Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco, Sineann Pinot noir to name a few. Only own a few Magnums, they’re 2000 Bordeaux and don’t think they pair well with Thanksgiving dinner.

GV: Love the show, but please, sometimes it would be nice if you’d just give your guests a second or two to express their thoughts on wine. The power of suggestion is too huge a factor, and at times you end up producing a “Mini-Me-Vaynerchuk” instead of allowing the viewer to get multiple insights into a wine. Your faithful followers have a pretty good sense of your palate…

As far as the points go, they’re good when they steer the consumer away from defective wines (rarely included in WS, etc. so kudos to you), and a real headache when your favorite undiscovered wine goes 95+ w/ Spectator or Parker.

QOTD: I’ll be drinking beer on a beach in Mexico, but in general I’m a huge fan of large-format bottles for Turkey Day.

    Gary,

Have you been taking Ritalin? That’s good, but we need to get your voice down two octaves so you can come across as the perceived mature wine expert. Great wine notes from Dr. Vino (aka Mr. T.), weak notes from Dr. G. Vouvray is not a winter wine. Thanksgiving is about big and sassy. Need that Alsace Gerwurtz to bring out big and T-Day. Your wines are to wimpy for Thanksgiving unless you are having the wimpy Thanksgiving Bird. run it upo several notches beyond lonlieness!

    Loved the show Garry,
Really enjoyed the guest. I have been on the fence for a while about scores, but after last weeks WSJ article challenging the validity of scores, and listening to Dr. Vino describing the wines, I have converted to Anti-Scorism. However, I do see the value in placing wines under larger categories. For instance, high, middle, or low. Just to understand were the wine stands, and generally most serious boozers (kidding) would at least agree on that. But a description would be more objective and helpful. I understand the need to sore wine for yourself, but i think its not helping people make decisions about which wines to drink based upon their tastes, but rather upon the reviewers preferences.
Sorry for the ramble but I have been drinking along with the show.

QOTD: Zinfandel, and then more Zinfandel (i know cliche), Hagafen Zin 2007, and Herzog Lodi Zin 2005, And some Porto Cordovero 2004 by T Fladgate

Wow, Dr. Vino is the most polite guy I’ve seen on all the shows I see online (may be I just need to find more “polite” shows.. hah). Great guest. And I’m glad he picked these wine categories. I think if I ask my local wine retailer about these varietals for enough times, may be she’ll just buy one for me when she’s out-and-about shopping for herself!

QOTD: Not decided yet. Probably go around town at different stores and pick a bottle or two of something I’ve never had.
