line of the day – ‘Is it like, communism, for you in your mind’

Not the greatest chemistry between GV and the guest but that was mainly down to the slow, deliberate way the guest answered many of the questions. What he did do well, however, was to prize some quite personal reflections from Gary, and that doesn’t happen too often

Wow, Dr. Vino is the most polite guy I’ve seen on all the shows I see online (may be I just need to find more “polite” shows.. hah). Great guest. And I’m glad he picked these wine categories. I think if I ask my local wine retailer about these varietals for enough times, may be she’ll just buy one for me when she’s out-and-about shopping for herself!

QOTD: Not decided yet. Probably go around town at different stores and pick a bottle or two of something I’ve never had.

  • It is funny to watch a wine guy who has trouble talking about wine. The only thing that scares me about Dr. Vino is that he might mislead us into spending twenty dollars on a mediocre wine. At least if he scored them we could gauge where he is coming from… a reference point. So Tyler gives that Beaujolais a 90 because he is polite. Gary V gives it a 85 because he does not want us wasting our money. That is what a score tells me. I know Gary’s palate and in thirty minutes I have no idea where Dr. Vino stands. Hmmm. Enough rambling, I have a lot of respect for any guy who blogs everyday, teaches classes and writes two books in a year. Good Job! By the way Gary, you intimidated the hell out that shy dude. QOTD… Perrin & fils 2007 Gigondas, Lucien Albrecht 2007 Gewurztraminer Reserve, and some J. Lohr Valdiguie 2008 which I think is vintage for this wine that absolutely rocks. By the way, my wine choices change everytime I dig through the wine rack. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • QOTD2: Yes! One of my earlier memorable bottles: in ’94 I found a magnum of ’89 Morgon at a wine shop and shared it with my girlfriend and friends one night. It was delicious!

Good show Gary, the guest was a nice guy, I don’t think I could follow his video blog due to his voice (I want to blow my nose as I listen to him). But thats ok, im sure he touches a demographic that might be turned off to your energy (rolls eyes). Maybe he wasn’t used to having someone around that knows wine and has a big personality. Anyway keep up the good work Gary, and im looking forward to see if the vouvray tastes any different the second time around.

    Qotd: Not sure yet!

Really enjoyed the chemistry between you two and the detailed bordering on geeky chitchat. More of this sort of thing, please.
I’m still ont he fence about Thanksgiving. I know one of the bottles will be the Simone SB (when you care enough to serve your family the very cheapest. That said, I love it)
Of course all bets are off if I can possibly wangle an invite to Randi’s.

  • Nice episode like the Dr. Vino guy but way to nice- I totally disagree about not scoring- too many tasting notes read like it is an amazing wine the get a score of 84- Should the 84 persuade you not to buy? NO if you like the notes try it- see if your tastes match up- if they do then with a particular scorer then you know to buy on his notes if you liked the wine and not on his score- If you didn’t like the wine that much and your personal score was an 82 well then you know to use the scorers points more as a reference-

Anyway thats all I got to say about that

    QOTD: No idea

  • Gary I love it when you nerd it up.

QOTD: because Canadian thanksgiving was in October, for thanksgiving I had the 2007 Moira Chardonnay from Malivoire Vineyards in Niagara ontario. DELICIOUS! I didn’t make it a magnum 🙁

GV- great show, Dr. Coleman kind gets “bowled over” by your intensity,(passion), though.

QOTD: I’ll be bringing an 07 Carl Sittmann Riesling, and a bottle of 06 Nyers Zin Pato Ranch, (from WL btw). Good wine for great folks. Best to you and yours! Happy Thanksgiving, Mike

QOTD: I have an ’05 single vineyard Saint Aubin in the fridge, as well as a bottle of ’02 Argyle Brut that will probably be popped, but I think that I’ll make a trip to the ol’ local wine store this week to buy some specific picks for the Thanksgivers feast… possibly a magnum if I happen to come across one that matches the food. GREAT guest, and fun insightful show. Cheers.
