line of the day – ‘Is it like, communism, for you in your mind’

Not the greatest chemistry between GV and the guest but that was mainly down to the slow, deliberate way the guest answered many of the questions. What he did do well, however, was to prize some quite personal reflections from Gary, and that doesn’t happen too often

QOTD: I have an ’05 single vineyard Saint Aubin in the fridge, as well as a bottle of ’02 Argyle Brut that will probably be popped, but I think that I’ll make a trip to the ol’ local wine store this week to buy some specific picks for the Thanksgivers feast… possibly a magnum if I happen to come across one that matches the food. GREAT guest, and fun insightful show. Cheers.

  • really good insightful show whould be great to more especially the ‘geeky’ talk. Im BUZZED to see your coming to the uk . I will be there!

QOTD: over in the UK we dont have thanksgiving but for christmas I’m hoping to get my hands on leoville Barton 1990, Hamilton russel pinot noir 2005 and some beaufiful 2001 Château Calon Ségur and to top it all off 2002 Torbreck runrig.

Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving!

QOTD: Frank Family Zin and a Picpoul de Pinet (a newly discovered varietal for me).

Great show. Loved the insight and information. Just started blogging myself and am now a follower of Dr Vino on his site and Twitter. Thanks guys.

Considering this guest is a self-described wine educator, he spent a little too much time prevaricating. He clearly disagreed with you about the Reisling, but couldn’t quite bring himself to say so. He’s just a little too wishy-washy for me. It’s fundamentally why he can’t give a score. Clearly has some knowledge and experience, and he’s a pleasant enough guy. He just didn’t quite bring the Thunder. I agree that the show was at its best when you weren’t talking about the tasting but were just chatting about wine in general.

QOTD: Haven’t decided spedifics. Pinot noir and an acidic white, but not completely sure which, yet.

Sub-QOTD: No magnums. They are a little too awkward. I’ll bring two 750s of each.

Funny…if I spend 4 or 5 hours preparing the food and an hour eating Thanksgiving dinner, I am far more concerned about what I drink while I’m cooking.

  • Gary,

I enjoyed the show and your guest though i thought he should have thrown at least one wine under the bus when you asked him about dissapointing wines at the end.

As for magnums, I would love to see a show wher you taste an older wine in both ot even several formats to illustrate how they age differntly. How about a Cinderella wine magnum offering?

The QOTD would be easier to answer if you asked what I won’t drink on Thanksgiving. I have a big family of wine drinkers and they all are very generous with sharing wine during the holidays. I can say that California, France and Italy will be drank and probably at least 20 varietals will be involved. My turkey wine of choice as you mentioned is Vouvray.

great guest! Have him back on if you can. I read his wine politics right when it came out.

QOTD: I have no idea. The magnum selection here is really small, plus I would probably rather taste two bottles rather than one mag.

    Hey GV,

Great show on your end!!! I must admit with shows like this I can?t help realize how dynamic you are as a wine enthusiast and as a person. Dr.Vino, not discrediting his kindness is a very un opinionated- grey type of person. A like or dislike was pulling teeth along with a prudent description of his personal tasting note. I think I would go banana?s following him, getting stoked about a wine he has tried and recommended or one that he dislikes for that stretch. He just seemed like a one dimensional type of wine that gets completely disjointed in the mouth and leaves you with a 50 point rating, a pass followed by the dumping of wine and an apology to follow. Did I say he?s a really nice guy! Lol Maybe it was too much of that ?Herbatious? ? Vouvray.lol Again Gary, keep up the great work, the honesty, truthfulness, personality, and integrity and you will enjoy continued successes!
