QOTD – In grad school – I think I threw some fun wine events for the wine club – tried to taste a LOT of different stuff and add a little bit of education into the mix. Then by the end of the event, things would certainly get even more interesting!

The hairpiece scored 95–it was epic. Surprised you could video the event.

Thank you for the peek inside.

QOTD – Still pretty new at all of this so no real events to speak of.

When did Marv Albert go to a dirty blonde? All kidding aside, thanks for a peek in on the world of RP. That took balls to break out the hand-held during that event and risk looking like a real douche. OK, you made up for the 5 episodes in the same shirt last month. QOTD: My wife and I went to a last minute e-mailed invite to a tasing with Erica Crawford of Kim Crawford Vineyards on a Tuesday afternoon. She was bringing in some Small Parcel select stuff that they were trying to unload on “the Americans”. We were the only ones who showed up. We had a complete 2006 horizontal one on one with Erica over 70 minutes and she could not have been more gracious. PS. I love the ’06 Central Otago Rise and Shine Pinot Noir. I know it hasn’t scored well, but wine is about context, and I couldn’t have asked for better context than my wife and Erica.

Without sounding like a suck-up..the annual Wine Library event at The Manor is for the price/food and 4 hrs available to taste some awesome wines a great event, was at the May Wine Spectator’s Grand tasting in A.C., a little pricey and shorter, only 3 hrs, but got to taste most of the WS’s top 100 wines and Wine Spectator’s event in D.C. in Feb each yr is very good. http://www.winelx.com

How is this a favorite ep? It doesn’t compare with any of the other ones listed. Parker droning on in the background doesn’t do it for me.

great video, i couldn’t really hear too well, but amazing to see such a scene where a casual wine drinker wouldn’t normally have access too…and that dude who was sitting in front of you is totally wearing a hair piece…

QOTD: Probably the first San Francisco Vayniac tasting at Ft. Mason back in May of 2007. Second Ft. Mason one last year in December was pretty good as well.

  • Did I hear you say, “funkified poop”?

    Oh, well, if it fits
–and of course, the best wine tasting the THUNDER CRUISE!

Oh, with all the tastings (and spittings), how much wine do you, Gary, actually drink every week? Just wondering.

  • Nice move G, not mentioning Pancho Campo in your episode…. he`s got the BLACKEST aura in the wine industry….

QODD for gary: Do you know which is the worst thing after Philoxera for wine?

Answer: Robertito Parker Jr. Thank god he is so (passé) washed off these days, he needed that.

Do some more Loire wines, your are missing a hole lot of love!

    Chao pelao

VERY EASILY the worst episode of yours I have ever witnessed.

Gary, I must say, I love what you do, please don’t take this wrong. The audio is the weakest part of your presentation, by far. In this episode, it was magnified 10-fold, the audio was nearly worthless at times. I understand the surroundings, why you couldn’t speak louder, etc., but then maybe it isn’t a show. Or you could have overdubbed it later? Anyway, keep up the good work, just not like this one so much!

  • Gary,

I know the audio was weak….but this has been one of my favorite episodes. Thanks so much for letting us all have a part of this experience. Its episodes like this that throw the Vayniacs a bit of a curveball and remind us why we love what you’re doing.

Kind of cool, although the audio was difficult to make out at times. Still, interesting.

QOTD: I went to the Cleveland International Wine Tasting and tasted about 50 wines back in May of 2008 and it was great. That was the only large testing I have ever attended. I would love to attend the Wine Library Super Tasting some day or the Cruise Grand Tasting.
