Best moment is when Robert Parker says that we should be making wine more accessible and friendly and GV turns the camera on himself to capture a big smile and a wink. That was a real laugh out loud moment for me https://khosim.com/

Gary … Thanks for letting us in on this, a special tasting indeed.

QOTD: The Wine Spectator CA Wine Experience in 2008, and in 2009 the l’ atelier tasting at Acme Fine Wines in St. Helena this past April.

Oh my gosh, this was so much fun. Thank you so much, Gary, for including us in this awesome experience. I’ll be watching this episode again and again.

QOTD: The 2009 New York Wine Experience is the best wine event I’ve attended. It is so interesting that Kevin Zraly mentioned it here regarding corks. Boy, I had some wines that weekend that I’d always dreamt of tasting, and that I’ll never forget!

    Thanks GV.
I love old (school) Rioja and, since many influential raters’ palates tend to push fruit and extract over secondary and tertiary flavors, they’ve remained relative bargains…

QOTD: Private tasting at Vega Sicilia last May was a great privilege.

Best tastings are always with friends, focusing on education. A recent format: each of us drew a price point ranging from $10 to $80 and brought a bottle at that price of the same varietal (in this case CA Syrah). Great way to test QPR!

    Hey Gary,

You gotta be the only one in the building not in a suit… nice!

Interesting to see how they do this. Thanks

Cool episode. Loved the whole gonzo style of it!
My best wine event recently was a Yquem vertical tasting with Pierre Lurton.

So Gary when are you coming to Germany? I know a lot of students who would love to see you talk about Crushing it! By the way loved the book even though my German heart bled a little because you spelled Riesling wrong.

    Kind regards

Gary you crushed it!!! The Jets comment was hillarious. You are absolutely changing the wine world and Im proud to be part of it. The Veynornation is alive and thriving.

QOTD: Tough question, I’ve enjoyed the majority of them. If I had to choose one I would say it’s the first one. I had so much fun and learned so much that night that I was hooked from then on.

  • This is absolutely one of the best EP’s. And the ’45 looked SO YOUNG on the color! Unbelievable!

QOTD: The first tasting.. I learnt so much and also completely hooked ever since (just 2 years ago, hehe)

QOTD: In 1984– a string quartet playing Vivaldi at Buena Vista Winery in California and we gorged on wine and cheese, then I had prime rib for dinner. The next day, not so good.

Fun times looking in to the wine biz. Loved it.

I thought that was Marv Albert in the rug in front of you until he turned all the way around.

QOTD – Most interesting was a Cognac Tesseron tasting where we had a chance to taste lots from 1990, 1976, 1953, 1929. The lot age was the average year of the blend. It was my first chance to taste, side by side, cognac of different ages. My favorite was the 53 but at 160 bones, too rich for me to buy. Still a memorable event for me

    Cheers

  • Excellent insider episode! And I love that old Rioja is still appreciated… Here’s to hoping it never becomes extinct.
QOTD: All the ones I’ve been too have been bad.

  • Coth in MKE

Thumbs up to crashing the event with your camera. That was a hoot.
QOTD: The Last time I went to, “Big Red.”

QOTD – I have been to a lot of wine tastings and events, but nothing like what you were attending in Rioja. Last week I was in Jerez, Spain and had a private tasting of sherries that were between 20 and 45 years old. And the bodega had a private art collection of famous Spanish artists such as El Greco, Goya, and Valasquez. I really enjoyed it and felt lucky to have experienced it.

QOTD: I can’t say I’ve ever been to anything close to that, or anything more than a local tasting. Would love to, though- thanks for bringing us a piece of the action!

that… was…. AWESOME!!!!! Gary, thanks for the behind the scenes and that was the first time I’ve seen Parker speak. I read his biography, Emporer or Wine, and it was a fascinating read.

QOTD: So far I’ve only been to Virginia wine events and they’ve been massively disappointing.
