line of the day – ‘maybe that’s why I’m such a girly kind of guy…because I drink so much wine’

Some interesting info about the health properties of wine but I found the guest lacking a bit of personality

First time poster. Love the show. In response to the question of the day besides the spices involved wouldnt the level of lard in pie dough and butter used slow the digestive process and absorption of glucose to the bloodstream.

QOTD: Shooting Cinammon lowering GI, huh?! More like, the amount of fat in the apple pie that’s causing the slower gastric emptying. (dietitian speaking)

GV, nice guest….how bout getting a dietitian in with ya one day!

    Great episode.

QOTD: Probably cinnamon as to do a part of the effect but the amount is low in a pie. Apples are realy rich in fibre and low in calories, then slow down digestion so glycemic peak may be control by right control of insulin secretion through hormone secretion from GI tract. But, as everything in nature, processes are really dynamic and are unique for different population.

I wonder if anyone out there is distilling cinnamon into a spirit – could be the healthiest drink on the planet.

QOTD – I’m guessing the lashings of thick cream on top of the apple pie clog up the arteries so much that your blood sugar doesn’t have time to respond…

  • HAS to be in my top ten favorite shows, Gary. LOVE the science. (Would have liked to’ve heard him weigh in on cigar smoking, though, since you brought it up. Hoping he might say my one a week is okay.)

  • Very interesting show. Do you do organics in monthly packs?
Don’t remember a show on it.

  • QOTD: Apple pie not raising the blood sugar level. Well I think one has to look on more than one front. The apple fruit sugar level, the acid, and what happens when heated. Cinnamon, yep it might effect combined with the apples, BUT don’t forget a other very important ingredient in apple pie. The fat aka butter. Butter might have a profound effect on fruit glucose when heated. Thats a whole new area of research that 🙂

I’m guessing it’s that it has few simple sugars, especially if you make it without adding any sugar/go light on the crust with bleached flour. The sugars in an apple must be better for you than those in candy or a starchy dessert like cake or a doughnut.

Nice show, and it just reinforces what I have always known, that the benefits of eating fresh naturally grown foods is enormous.Clearly, we have barely scratched the surface when it comes to understanding the benefits that certain foods have to offer, but you can’t go wrong eating fresh organic food, and a good bottle of Pomerol can’t hurt either.

QOTD:I think Gary is right, the cinnamon probably plays some role in how our body reacts to the intake of sugar, although, the natural sugars from fruit may have played a part as well.

  • It *looks* to be a good interview. I’m saying looks because I can’t hear anything, because the mic was too far away during the interview, and the small speaker in Macbook Air can’t compensate…

Never thought I’d see Nick Perricone (dermatologist) on the thunder show! I liked his book, “The Wrinkle Cure” and learned so much from him re anti-inflammatory effect on the body caused by simple sugars, etc. Was a fan of his skin care line for yrs but didn’t work for me and very pricy.. Rather spend the $$ on fine wine. Good show!
