89/100

lines of the day – ‘Bunny Sniffs’ and ‘On the tart-o-meter this is off the charts’

Solid episode, GV helped out the guest a little more than he usually does…can’t blame him.

    oh yeah….

Boe – ken – hootz – kloof. That was a good one.

p.s. I loved the first book, which I’d just sent to my daughter for her 22nd B-day (today). Happy birthday, Rachel!

Two classic aspects to this show. One is that you rocked that sweater Gary, and two the fakey fake smile at the very end of the show right before the fade to black. Now I don’t mean “fake” like you didn’t mean it, but more sarcastic than the norm. Great show. Oh yes your guest was hot and charming. I do not know the difference between mescal and tequila, but I like me a top shelf margarita on the rocks no salt.

  • Your interviewing skills are getting better, Gary! Decent show. I give it an 88 plus.

Good show, great guest. Might have to find some straight semillon…

QOTD 1:Isn’t tequila a kind of mezcal or something like that?
QOTD 2:Good question. Another thing I will need to learn

  • Doesn’t Tequila just mean that it comes from Chiuhahua? I love a lot of tequila, but my mainstay is Cazadores or Hornitos, over ice.

As for Yealands, Have you tried their Pinot Noir? it’s a solid product for 15 bucks.

Longtime lurker. I’ve enjoyed the recent string of guests…..passionate winemakers, filmmakers and this charming woman. Love the variety. I’m an avid cook always on the lookout for great food wines. Would love to see a show where you invite a chef from a local restaurant you enjoy. Have him or her bring one or two dishes (something simple like Osso Bucco or braised short ribs that only need to be reheated). Then taste several wines with the food and rate them accordingly. Could be a perfect opportunity to find some real bargains.

Having had both, I can answer without Google, ha! Tequila is from the Tequila area of Mexico, mezcal is also fermented agave, but from anywhere (I think anywhere). Kind of like CDP vs a broader Cotes du Rhone. I much prefer Tequila, it has more of a bite and more structure than the one mezcal I’ve tried (that being said, it I also prefer 100% agave tequila very much over some of the ‘gold’ watered down, caramel color-added Cuervo-esque tequilas popular in much of the US market, unfortunately those come at much greater cost!)

  • Nice episode. Too bad about the Chianti though, I would if given the chance incline towards the Semillón as well.

QOTD: well Tequila and Mezcal are closely related and the real difference is the fact that for it to be called “mezcal de tequila” the original name for tequila, it must be made from Blue Agave (tequilana webber) from the tequila region in Jalisco, as opposed to any other type like Sotol, Bacanora, etc., like any distilled alcohol, there are subtle and distinct characteristics to the various types by region and process.

I like mezcal and tequila alike, specially aged tequilas or cured mezcals like “de pechuga”or “minero”.

  • Loved this episode GV! Admittedly I used to have a crush on Serena back in her MTV days, so it was quite a surprise to see her name on the video headline. Anywho, good stuff ? always with the random (awesome) guests.

QOTD: Not a big tequila fan at all. The smell triggers a bad impulse for me but I think that’s due to drinking it improperly while in school 🙂

Hey Gary and Serena. Great, awesome show!!
I have not commented the last couple of episodes because I
    am lazy.
All this talk of MTV makes me feel old. I havn’t watched since
    1989.
I had a decent Boekenhoutskloof ‘The Chocolate Block’ 2007.
I am at this moment drinking 2007 A to Z “no wood” Chardonnay.
    Very good. Score = 89.

QOTD – I do not do the hard stuff, sorry. Beer and wine only.

I loved this show. Relaxed and fun. Pitty the wines were a little disappointing.

QOTD. I don’t drink tequila. I just drink wine, malt whisky and grappa. Besides this NOTHING.

A REALLY CHARMING GUEST. THE SOUTH AFRICAN SEMILLON SOUNDS INTERESTING TO ME.

QOTD: I LIKE TEQUILA & LOVE THE EFFECT IT HAS BUT DON’T KNOW A WHOLE LOT ABOUT IT. IN TOKYO THE BEST MARGARITAS ARE AT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN NISHI-OGIKUBO.

QOTD 1: I know vayniacs have already googled and watched the Mezcal show (which I remember to be awesome!) and given the specific answer here, so I’ll bypass this part of the question.
QOTD 2: I have (sadly) NEVER had a true Mezcal to date, but it is on my to-do list for this holiday season!
