89/100

lines of the day – ‘Bunny Sniffs’ and ‘On the tart-o-meter this is off the charts’

Solid episode, GV helped out the guest a little more than he usually does…can’t blame him.

Boekenhoutskloof produce some great value wines such as the Wolftrap and Porcupine Ridge as well as the Chocolate Block. My fav though is their Syrah. Not too sure if you see much of it over in the US but well worth seeking out. Rhone like structure and complexity. I get it from the Wine Society in the UK but the first place I tried it was oddly enough at a place in London near the Tower called The Wine Library.

Surprised the Semillon didn’t show better – would be interesting to revisit in a year or so.

  • QOTD: Don’t know enough but if I remember my food science enough it has something to do with the agave. I don’t really have a preference.

Love the Tequila. QOTD – The Mezcal gets a little too smoky/scotchy for me sometimes. I love the purity of the agave rounded with just a little caramel-ish oak. Total Tequila Reposado lover.

Thanks for being kind and gentle to Serena. I watch her on Sunday Morning and look forward to her feature with you. PS i was disappointed with the Yealands Sav Blanc as well. Keep sniffy-sniffing.

Nice EP Gary, and another lovely guest, with bonus for showing some discernment on the nose and palate. QOTD: Love/prefer Tequila 100% agave.

Impressed with how your interview skills have improved over the last few months. (Remember 2 ears 1 mouth)
A nice add on would be to tape the guests answer to their questions because most seem to have strong opinions and air it before the following episode.
You know instead of reading past comments. (just giving you a hard time)

QOTD: can drink either but not a huge fan of either

  • Great show, Gary. Brief, simple, fun. Liked it a lot. Grew up watching Serena on MTV News, where I think her hair was much shorter. Glad to see she’s found some great success in her field!

QOTD: Don’t really LOVE either, though a small glass of room temp Tres Generaciones with a little brown sugar and lime has done wonders for my spirits in the past.

  • Way to pretty up the show today Gary, good guest. Quirky and Fun!

QOTD 2: I am still learning to like tequila, I find there is still that nasty after taste for me that I can’t get beyond. I recently wrote a little blog post on tequila and my adventures in trying to like it. It will be a many part post but in the end the only way I’ve really enjoyed tequila was with sipping it with lime juice and tomato juice, I find the tomato juice calms down the tequila quite nicely for my palate.

  • missatiejacket

    good show
I’m sure the difference has been stated (but in case you care, I do know without looking it up that Tequila must be from that region and made with only blue agave whereas Mezcal can be from anywhere in Mexico and made with any type of Agave)
I’ve never had a top shelf Mezcal so I can’t say which I prefer.

  • Good show) But i’ve heard at the beginning that it’s going to be both sides) she was supposed to interview you a bit?) You didn’t give her any chance, Mr. Domination) Still, a great guest, a lot of smiles, interesting wine.
