Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

  • I’d love to see a certain long-time Vayniac (me) get to be a guest on WLTV when Cliff Lee ventures back to NY to beat up on the Yankees again, only this time with the M’s.

Beyond that, honestly, I think the formula is working.

  • Very good episode…. Mott’s face when he tires the champagne is priceless!

QOTD: Old school is great, though it would be cool if you find interesting guests to invite or even invite vayniacs from the comments on each show, just an idea.

    g,

for 2010, i would like to see more guests. (i know, this is contrary to what you thought) the guests you had in 09 were terrific, when you were able to restrain from being in their face. with that said, you have the ability to make the guest shine, and when they did, it was terrific.

the blind tastings were excellent, because you did what you do best, evaluate the juice for what it was, and let the chips fall where they may. so do more blinds.

the on location tastings were ok, but i felt that you just wanted to do them to add to your resume. they were not outstanding, especially the one done at Foxboro Stadium (enemy territory).

you have a great show, just keep doing what you do, and mix it up, and let the guests be great, i know you know how.

Keep the guests please. The occassional clunker doesn’t justify losing the insight from the good ones.

    Dear Gary and Mott,

I truly enjoyed this episode. The message you bring across is what more people in the world need. You show an appreciation for life. Therefore, my WLTV wish for 2010 is to bring that across as much as possible. Also, as a somewhat newbie to the wine world, I would like to be introduced to more wines that are enjoyable, as well as affordable.

Happy Holidays and Happy 2010 to all the Vayniacs!

2009 has been another great leg in the fabulous WL journey – thank you!

I enjoy the mix of shows: loved the blind duos, the WINE guests, the fam, etc.
What keeps me pumped is the element of suprise. What will GV break out on tonight’s show? A whole year of blinds would get boring…and tough love here GV, I’m not sure you could keep that up.

Maybe you can do a Vin Juane episode to give some peace to John J.
Hey, Santa just gave us Mike Holgrem! Miss the viewer comments and would like to see a Rioja blind show. What about Lizzzzzie for a show on your anniversary? And Sir Gary…miss that dude. I mean gentleman.

I love it when the Motsta comes on the show!
My WLTV wish for 2010 – keep going, yes, some blind tastings but not every show! A few guests but not too many, lots of accessible affordable wines for the masses, mix it up!! (the wines that is), a bit of wine nerdiness, honest enjoyable wines, more of just you and the Motsta (good idea), and the Friday night couch. So not much then….

  • I’m with Violetruby – I like the variety. Mix it up with plnty of guests and double blinds. I’d like to see some double blind varietal horizontals across different regions and countries. I.e. Californian chardonnay vs Chilean chardonnay. See if you can explain and pick up on the regional characteristics. Anyway, whatever happens, looking forward to some great shows in 2010

  • I would like to see your crew pull a fast one on you in 2010.
Once and a while you think they have, but they never do.
It would be fun if on the blind, they throw in two bottles of the same wine or tell you that you are doing a blind Cab tasting but it turns out there is a Cab,Zin and Melbec in the mix.

Nice show but France shall be eliminated in the First Round of the WC. So sad for them.

Seriously a nice show and audience. Different perspectives always welcome.

I definitely would like more education for all of us. Let me explain, I want to know about long term cellaring, about how can I distinguish between a good candidate for long term consumption vs mid vs short term. I would like to know if bottle shock is fiction or reality. Blind tastings are definitely a treat, but I would not like to have all 2010 be that way. I would like to know if first growths are as good as they seem to be or are you paying huge amounts of money just for the name.

I know you are tired of cabs, but I would like to see fights between good value cabs in the $15-$25 range. I would like to see more Washington State wines, specially merlot and sirah.

Thanks for bringing thunder to 2009, my cellar is exploding thanks to you!

First time response. I started watching on episode 650, have watched every one since, and have gone back to watch the rest of the archives. Thanks for the education.

qotd: Stay with your strength — education about quality wine, people and places from all over the world and as the world changes. Quality should trump reputation. ‘Listen to the experts but judge for oneself’ still rings true. The unpredictability of what’s coming next keeps the show interesting. The blind tastings highlight the essence of wine tasting and judging. (I’d like to see a blind tasting of wines for which you have no information, not even the varietal or vintage, just to see how you identify what they are.) I tend to like the 10-15 minute segments but the good ones are worth watching, no matter how long.

    QOTD:
    1. SHIPPING TO HOLLAND.
    2. Blinds
    3. Mobile WLTV’s is a goooood one!
    4. 1000th episode.

  • Sorry for your loss yesterday, that was a tough one to swallow.

  • Sorry for your loss yesterday, that was a tough one to swallow.

  • I enjoy the blind tastings (they are not double-blind; that would require people picking wine that goes in the bags to know nothing about what was going on, especially anything about wine). Exclusively for an entire year? Please, no.

I really enjoy guests, especially those with expertise/back-story in the wine industry, but don’t want guests every show. I certainly do not want you to abandon guests in 2010.

I enjoy tight shows in your office. Sound usually is good; you are more relaxed. Familiarity is comfortable, but don’t give us an entire year of #85 jersey-Gary-chalkboard video framing.

In short: please continue to mix it up; don’t get into a comfortable, grind-out-a-week-of-shows-in-one-day rut.

Stay on the edge. Allow yourself to fail. That’s how you’ve crushed it for four years, why walk away from that formula?
