Good show with a stonking anti-oak rant

I’m very tempted now to try out the last wine just to see what an over-oak’ed wine is as an educational example. Of course, the big turn off is the fact that it is more than 10 dollars which I’m right now unwilling to dish out just for an educational exploration. That being said, perhaps if I had asked one of those people dispensing wine at the wine tastings for a heavy oak’ed wine, they’ll look at me weird.

QoTD: I’ll be happy with anything, though, likely I’ll be getting nothing or coal. I could actually use the coal to heat up the place or compact it for a diamond.

@GaryV, what do you do with the left over wine after the show?

QOTD: Don’t know what he’ll leave for me. I’m more excited for what he leaves my daughters anyways.

So far, I’ve not been a big fan of Aussie Shiraz, but I’ve not had tons of it so hard to judge the class in total. I’m from the camp that doesn’t like Mollydooker, but I do like Bin 389 from Penfolds a lot. I guess I just need to try more over time.

The first wine I ever had was rosemont estate shiraz.. I loved the fruit taste to it, but haven’t had it in a long time and wonder if it would be too over the top for me now..
QOTD: I would love a Eurocave, but think my wife is a year or two away from getting me one!!!

  • A lot of Langhorne Creek wines have that initial green mint on the nose. When I was in Langhorne Creek recently a winemaker suggested that it’s more likely to be eucalyptus! What do you reckon?

  • By the way, you didn’t give us your views on the current state of the Australian wine industry?

I haven’t had many Australian wines. Your reaction to the big oak monster has me wondering, are the winemakers adding oak flavor or is from being aged in oak barrels? Do winemakers add other flavors or are they just blending different grapes?

Santa (otherwise known as my wife) is bringing me Wii games. Originally was going to bring me a Wii but I had already purchased it for her and we didn’t realize until they were both wrapped and under the tree.
