Crazy how this became such a big event!

Helen- if you are invited to promotional event, please do your Homework you looked like Paris Hilton at a college lecture.

Mrs.Buehler-Welcome to the 21st century. You guys got caught, cowboy up or piss 75,000 real and potential customers.

Vaynernation-Harsh but true, world needs more straight shooters.

Gary- Thanks for pulling no punches and airing this when you knew it would flop for the Buehlers! And part of the reason is like 2 weeks and no new content!

@castello – that is hilarious, I was thinking the same thing when I read Murso’s post. Definitely had to look up pedantic. I do enjoy the wine knowledge thunder Murso brings to the table!

First, on Gary: always a great FREE show – remember, Gary doesn’t control the preparedness of the guests, nor should he.

    On the Buehler fiasco:
There is nothing wrong with a 24 year old girl being nervous in her first major media appearance.
There is something wrong with her being horribly unprepared. Your family business and reputation is at stake; doesn’t that mean something?

  • How about someone call GARY V out, for not doing HIS homework on his guest??
Sure, the guest might be dissatisfactory for most, but at the end of the day isn’t it Gary’s responsibility to make sure (read: pre-interview) to figure out that the guest is even remotely “qualified” or even just relevant for a WLTV episode?
    I think so.

  • Helen, You did a fine job. I look forward to trying your families 07 Cab.

Gary, perhaps you should publish the email address of everyone who comments. This might cut down on the insults. Constructive criticism can be helpful, but many of these comments were just down right mean.

  • I’m loving the banter, you could say. I have no idea what they talked about during the show… was too busy reading the comments.
No Wes Welker… Jets have a chance.

Sure the episode was tedious, but not all WLTV episodes are going to be classic. Give the girl a break, she’s got a lot to learn and probably knows it, plus, I doubt any of us know her personally and maybe her reactions to GV’s questions were related to her being nervous as hell, that’s my guess. GV and Helen both get a free pass from me on this one. It’d be fun to have her on again in a year after working for her folks to see what she’s learned.

@ ChrisD – thanks for posting that article on the Napa water, informative, although slightly terrifying. I’m going to do some more research on that topic.

This is also the first episode where I have read all the comments yesterday, all the new ones today, and will probably check back tomorrow.

I was glad to see Lisa Dollar Buehler post a response defending her daughter. That was commendable as a Mother. However, considering she’s representing her brand to a large consumer base, her message would have been more effective if she remained tactful and didn’t make the pathetic wine groupies comment. I was definitely going to seek out the 2007 Buehler Cab, now I’m undecided…

Although still intrigued to keep reading these comments.

First thing is first, I noticed that GV’s body language was drastically different from how he is with other guests. He didn’t interrupt as much and showed significant improvements towards being a better interviewer.

One thing, is that person who is claiming to be a representative of Helen’s mother really representing Helen’s mother? It could possibly be someone looking to troll and rile up the crowd to incite anger.

  • Grill Factor

I watched this and first impressions were: “this girl is going through the motions and doesn’t know much and is maybe falling back on her parents’ success.” I went and read most of the comments and watched the video again. I think this girl is more interesting and smarter than most girls I know her age. I think she did a fine job and certainly didn’t embarrass her family. Would you rather have a winery send out a slick looking guy wearing a suit, telling us what we should be tasting in their wine? In that case you’d just know you were getting screwed. It’s a family run business owned and operated by Americans. That is something to be excited about.

Totally agree with Banknote. The growing number of people who toss out insults while hiding behind computer screens is turning into an epidemic. Most of us think our words through before we speak to each other. It needs to happen online.

Full disclosure, I really didn’t care for the mom’s response either…

People: she didn’t break down the wines the way Gary or we do, it’s ok, not everyone can. Most of the time, my wife’s tasting notes are that she likes the wine or not and that’s it. Not everyone is able to sit there and breakdown the nuances.

I kink of looked at the episode as Helen mainly bringing the family Cab so Gary could taste it and give us his opinion. Mission accomplished. I mean, she even admitted that she’s just getting into the family business.

    YO! wth?!

the girl was obviously flustered, and you guys need to bite your tongues, at least SOME of the time!

that being said, i’m a 21 y.o. poorer-than-trash wine newbie and i could’ve probably said more about scent/palate than helen. she was polite, beautiful, and endearing, but good god. don’t represent yourself like that unless you know what you’re doing. [and don’t get your mama to fight your battles!]

also– GV, great job on the interview. the show wasn’t as bad as some people make it out to be, don’t get discouraged.

    Hilarious comments

Telling Lisa Buehler to read Crush It. This lady is runnning a legit business. She needs to be coached by Gary V. Give me a break.

“Live life to the fullest with passion in everything you do”. There, saved her some time and money. Now she can use the money to improve her wine now.

Calling Gary V a “master taster” when did he receive this recognition. He’s just another opinion. Still share Robert Parker’s view on biased retailers. Yea the “master taster”, who he rudely talked through on video in Spain.

Lisa will never sell anymore wine due to her comments on this board. LOL believe it or not there are people in the wine industry that still don’t know who Gary V is. Wine has existed prior to GV and it will exist after. Period

Free content, the dude sells books and wine for profit, I must have missed free.

Dear Lord this is like a slow moving train wreck. Literally, when I was watching the episode and the privileged child said “I don’t pay for wine” I winced. I have some free advice for you Helen there is a very bad recession going on. People may not take to kindly to statements from someone coming from money who appears that insensitive to the financial outlay of people who may be purchasing your family’s wines.

Then we have the mom (I truly hope it wasn’t really her) jumping in on the board insulting the potential customers. Perhaps mom you should have prepared your daughter for her trip and actually taught her some humility and the price points of your products instead of insulting potential customers after she bombed.

Simply a disastrous attempt at marketing. The only thing that would have saved this episode would have been for sir gary vanerchuck to have hopped out and said “I agree only peasants pay for wine.”

Stop dissing the Mom for defending her daughter, it’s a natural reaction. And as others have said…why should she pay for wine when she doesn’t have too?
