Scotty “Telling Lisa Buehler to read Crush It. This lady is running a legit business. She needs to be coached by Gary V. Give me a break.”

She needs to read something because telling 90,000 of your potential customers that they are “pathetic” does not bode well for marketing. And I don’t see Mrs. Buehler’s name on their website so the only thing that we know she does is mother her children. Also, I am pretty sure that Gary sells way more wine than the Buehlers.

I just don’t understand how you can “want” to be in the wine business and know so little about wine. She clearly has no passion for wine. Maybe she could have explained some insides as to how they make their wine, why its better… amazing. How can you not even know how to taste wine? How to decipher flavors and odors. How can you know you are making good wine then? I’m not in the in the business and I taste over 250-350 wines a year…passion (ok and way too much money!)

Have many of you had the good fortune to meet Gary V? I did. Once. And albeit briefly, he is a bit intimidating. Not because of any pretense. He didn’t exude any arrogance or pretense whatsoever, but was intimidating because he talks so darn fast and his lexicon is so full of wine and social media terminology. It’s hard to keep up! Let alone, let’s be honest, he’s a freaking celebrity!

I think Helen did great. When I was 24, let alone now at 28, I would have been dropping bricks in my pants before, during and after the interview. She kept her composure. She was engaging. She was in a public place with lots of distractions, which didn’t seem to faze her. And she was honest! Jesus, isn’t this what is lacking from most every interview you see across all media – honest dialog from someone who isn’t simply there to be the “Pitch Person”? And how do we thank her for being honest? We crucify her!!?? I understand the criticism that she should have known the price points. I agree. But come on my fellow Vayneriacs, let us not become the same audience that exists with most every other show out there – a bunch of sheep that EXPECT and WANT a pitch man to be interviewed and simply promote their product, as opposed to a fan that got on the show.

If I ever got on the Show, I think I’d now be particularly nervous considering the comments and reception Helen was given.

Helen thanks for being honest and not being a pitchman. And in regards to your likes and dislikes about cities…thank you!..even though some people don’t appreciate a different point of view. I wasn’t a big fan of San Francisco either. Might be a great place to live, but it wasn’t the best for a visitor like me. I’ll take London, New York, Chicago, Budapest and even Seattle over it any day. Oh, Prague and Lisbon, too. Haven’t been to Paris yet.

    Cheers,

OK, I am tired of reading comments from people who feel bad for this girl. The people who are commenting against the negative comments perceivably have just as much time on their hands to comment as everyone else. I seriously doubt that ANYONE who posted, negative or positive is too invested in this. There were a few EPIC posts, this just means this ep got people excited, either one way or another. As far as brand equity, personal clout, and wine knowledge are concerned Helen took a major hit on all accounts. I believe people are aware that we can?t judge the girl on personality, career ambitions, hopes, dreams etc. on just this brief appearance. True, some of us may have too much time on our hands (myself included) and people may get fired up for very little reason, but that is part of the passion that started this show in the first place. If everyone did their own thing this life and the next would be wayyyyyyyyy too boring. This ep has brought out lurkers, sympathetics, and hardcore “Vayniacs” alike. I say we solute this monster we have created and see where its ugly fascinating bulk takes us next. My epic post and run-ons are over now! PROST!!!

WOW! I stop in to see if the next episode is posted yet & look at all this.

I’ve commented on every episode I’ve seen, from the new ones, to starting from the beginning & catching up on everything I’ve missed. Man, I’ve never seen anything like this. I think there were maybe 20-30 comments when I 1st saw this & commented. I made it a point to just ‘say nice to have ya back’ & not really comment on the episode itself. I remember thinking this episode will probably get some interesting remarks going in all directions. But wow, I was blindsided by the amount of drama this episode incurred, it’s unreal. Probably best not to comment on anyone’s comments either. I’m all for free speach however, but I’m also for being polite & constructive.
I’m REALLY curious to see the next episode now. I wonder how all these comments will be addressed, if at all. I wonder if the comments on this episode is why we didn’t get a new episode yesterday, As Gary & co. decided what to do next.
With that being said, I love the double blind cab tasting idea Gary. Would love to see you double blind as much as possible, since there’s no preconceived notions on $, winery, or anything else.
A double blind vin jaune tasting would be really awesome.

    Gary,

Congrats. Your show just hit an all time low. And you, Dr. Frankenstein, have a major hand in it. When you invite in a guest such as this young lady, you owe her far, far better treatment than she has received at the hands of your jejune, narcissistic maniacs who apparently take the greatest delight in putting others down. Your comments section is fast becoming nothing more than a platform on which these self-centered “wine experts” can strut their supposed superiority in a fashion that anyone with a gram of manners would find disgusting.

Once upon a time you did the wine world a great favor with your honest, candid reviews. But there is a creeping negativity apparent in your recent reviewing, one in which you’re much more proficient in the put down than in the build up. I suspect that might be contributing to the fact your comment section is now worth nothing more than food for the compost pile.

Time for you, dear leader, to have a word with your followers about their manners. They need that, as does your reputation which suffers by association. Time to put a cork in this ego fest and get back to wine!

    Slainte!

It’s been a lot of fun following this episode and all the comments. I hope the Buehlers hit a homerun and sells boocoos of wine because of the VaynerNation. I also hope Helen comes back in a year or so. I bet she would be well prepared and the Vaniacs would show her much respect.

  • Okay, I am an old curmugeon boomer, but I found Helen very refreshing and articulate considering the environment she was in and probably the first time in front of the camera. If you are in the wine business, she is the face of our future and we better pull the corks out of our tight asses and embrace it or your business (as well as your attitudes) will “die on the vine.”

I never leave multiple postings, but I’d like to say the following:

This inadvertently turned out to be the big bang episode that any producer of a media production would hope for to start the new season.

    This episode had everything:
    1. A brief yet insightful look at a wine making family (obviously this has been beaten to death, so no need for further explanation)
    2. Viewers going all out attacking the “poor nice girl” and the mother.
    3. Viewers defending the “poor nice girl,” the mother, then calling other viewers the GAY-nernation, pathetic, people you wouldn’t want to hang out with, etc.
    4. Viewers to rose above, stayed positive, and ecouraged the “poor nice girl”
    5. Viewers who corroborated that Paris sucks because Parisians are mean (I myself love Paris and the people were nice to me, but hey, I’m an American who tried to communicate using French and visited their country with a sense of humility and appreciation for their culture, perhaps they appreciated the effort…)
    5. The priceless look on GV’s face everytime his inquiry about the nose or taste of the wine was met with…I don’t even know what to call it….
    6. A beautiful suggestion for 07 cali cab blind tasting

    So happy new year everyone!

I love all the people with the “First time in front of a camera” excuse. Its not a sit down with Katie Couric at ABC studios, its Gary with an Iflip at a restaurant throwing soft ball questions at her!

Its scary to think this generation will be running the country some day!
