There was a fiery mama called Buehler

She said if you mess with my Helen

I just realized I’m addicted to posting and reading on this episode. I need help and I am not afraid to admit it. I say props to everyone who posted, regardless of what was said. THIS is why web 2.0 will be huge in the next few years. I have always had the sneaking suspicion that this type of exposure/connection will lead to the downfall of us all. Marshall McLuhan once stated that He didn?t know who or what realized the existence of water, but it sure as hell was not a fish. Omnipresence and inundation is clearly prevalent. This is awesome, and even though I don?t know any of you I am glad you are all along for the ride. Buckle up.

?What do you pick up on the nose? Asked Gary V
?It smells like wine? says she
Now there no tell?n where Helen is Headin?

  • TommyB

I think Helen was awesome, we love to hate pretty girls who come from name brand families, the guests that draw the vaynernations ire usually deserve it, this is not one of those times, im sad to see so many haters out there. Its ok, im going to buy a bottle of the Cab to show my support, so its all good.

No, she did not come off like Charlie Rose. And, as a budding wine nerd (and nerd in general) I did get a little annoyed at first that she came off as a pretty but not so bright girl, since there are lots of people who get more appreciation for their looks than their intelligence. Compound that with the fact that her last name is the same as that of the winery, and it starts to feel Paris Hilton/GWB-ish: born on third base.

But seeing the comments made me soften toward her. Wow, people can be cruel. A young woman takes the time to be part of this community, and share information on her company’s wines, and we rip her? Seems that we, hopefully smart people, forgot what it was like to be bullied, and now hide behind the web to trash people.

Not cool. I’m glad that she took the time to be part of WLTV, I hope these comments don’t diminish her enjoyment of it, and I hope it doesn’t dissuade others from coming on the show.

And, frankly, I can’t smell lots of notes on wine, either–damn these allergies. Sad I didn’t win the genetic lottery like some posters here.

  • From a retail point of view….I could guarantee that if you put Helen(young, easy going, with basic wine knowledge) up against any wine enthusiast/aficionado that she would out sell you. She is more approachable and speaks to you the consumer and not over your head. You have to look at that aspect of the whole picture. She is an approachable person, which would garnish more sales from the every day consumer.

  • JJ
I’m sorry you lost your job, but give Helen a break.

I also don’t know what brought out the bear on this one.

    Even my wife jumped in:

She said, “This girl really doesn’t know much about wine”.

I Said, “Wow…take it easy on her, your father was an electrical engineer, I doubt you could answer many questions about Ohm’s vs. Watts vs. Volts”.

She said, “Yea, but I’m not pushing a product on an electrical show”.

I said, “That’s a damn good point, you win”.

Then I thought…wow, good show, bringing debate into the homefront!!!

@JohnK – I respect your wife, and I haven’t even met her. That’s the whole issue. It isn’t Helen’s knowledge that is in question, it is her role on the show. As a random guest, she’d have been fine. As a wine marketer and a budding wine maker, WTF?

Either way, though, I’m sure Ms. Helen will be just fine. It should take a lot more than a VaynerNation paZZZ for her to get discouraged. Best case: She learns something and comes back in a year bringing some knowledge and some thunder! I look forward to that show.

    Not all was lost.

She learned the hard way that she was not just talking to Gary, but around 200,000 wine loving people!

Good learning experience for her and the family. Next time she will think twice before saying anything offensive into a camera lens.

Viewable emails or some kind of linkage to those who leave comments wouldn’t be a bad idea. It would cut down on the haters who just like to spew non-productive crap behind a phony name. If you are going to spew it, you should own it.

Regarding Helen: I didn’t see any reason to bring on the hate. Sure, she’s young in the wine biz and no doubt this is her first time out not knowing what to expect. If she had been in this biz for several years, then that would be a very different scene. Give her a break for now.

Regarding Mama Buehler: unfortunately she “reacted” to a bunch of Neandertals, instead of “acting.” Sure, she is protective as any mother would be. The only thing wrong with that, she should have taken off the “momma” mask and put on her “marketing” mask instead.

    Watched again.

Maybe it was the loud background music that messed up the thought process? A lot of people can’t hold a logical discussion over loud disruptive music.

Gary, bring your dad on soon.
He is great! Like his comments on life.
