I think this “I’m not buying their wine again” business needs to stop. Helen’s performance doesn’t make the wine any worse. Boycott’s against a family owned US company have no place in this economic climate. It’s bad enough everything else we call our own is being auctioned off to china. Buy local! Support domestic businesses.

I can’t figure out any other reason why you are spending your entire day commenting on some girl being unprepared for a wine blog. Were you personally offended or something? Find another hobby.

Besides, she was better at talking than you are at typing. That’s pretty telling.

  • She did fine. You also have to remember that you’re really put on the spot when the camera is suddenly in your face. Especially if you’re with a guy like Gary.

Well said Mike Nelson…it’s harsh, but fair.

“Passion” is an often over-used word in the wine industry, but you at least want your spokesperson to care a little more than what Helen portayed here.

Gary would probably never say this publicly, but he seemed a little pissed that she brought on wines with very little preparation.

“I don’t know the prices, I don’t buy wine” = lack of respect for the power that this video blog has and could do for her parents brand. It was a lost opportunity as now people are commenting about Gary re-tasting the wines without Helen’s influence, regardless of his honesty through the video.

I will retreat from my soap box now…

Helen, we will welcome you back. When we were 20 something we wouldn’t have thought twice about not paying for wine. Some of us were a little hard on you, sorry. It happens when we learn how to type and drink at the same time. Some of us are way over aged and are getting a little flabby.

The fact that she says she doesn’t pay for wine means that she probably only tastes California wines for the most part. Her loss. To say “I don’t pay for wine” is also a slap in the face of real wine connoisseurs of more limited means. Nepotism is one of the biggest curses of the wine industry.

@Chateau_Plonk: I find it interesting that you can “judge” a person watching a 20 minute video. How do you know that she only drinks Cali wines? Watch the video again. She talks about like French wines (Alsace if I recall correctly).

@Phil M’Glassup: Lucky with the ladies? Are you serious? You obviously never ever had any real “game” with the ladies. LMAO!!!

Ok, she drank some Sancerre in Paris (a city she admittedly doesn’t even appreciate). This does not negate her obnoxious nepotism.

    400th comment?

Many of the complaints/issues I’ve seen of Helen are pretty silly. While I took note of a few of them as the show progressed, they didn’t bother me. Why? Because while she doesn’t know much about wine – She brought them to the right person – GARYV.

Her not knowing much about the wine was a bit of a plus in my mind. It showed that she was in fact NOT prepared to be overly “selling it”. She let Gary’s sniffy sniff and whirl be the deciding factor.

    – So she doesn’t pay for wine – her family makes wine (makes sense).
    – Doctors don’t charge doctors (and often don’t charge nurses) for office visits or consults.
    – Cops don’t write cops tickets.
    – Construction workers go help their friends and get paid with a 6-pack.
    – People who work in a pizza shop get free pizza (by the way – Dominos new recipe didn’t help…garlic powder on the crust…please)
    – This list goes on and on…

Guess what…watch the AJ turning 21 show…see any similarities?

    Be empathetic…you’ll feel better.
