line of the day – ‘The Vanilla Villain might have to make an appearance’

Didn’t think I was going to like this guest but he turned out knowledgeable and passionate…and did a good job trying to market obviously overpriced wines

I really enjoyed this show, even though, as a Buckeye, I really don't have much use for Pennsylvania. That Merlot sounded really good and I'd like to try it. Jason is a cool dude and it sounds like he really enjoys his job at the winery.

QOTD: The Saints shocked me – I didn't think they would beat the Colts.

  • Yea, just a blend. And to be honest, I think we are actually ripping it out. Didn't ripen to Gino's liking over the past few vintages, too cold. There's actually a really interesting winery about 20 mins from us called Va La that is making some REALLY interesting blends from ALL Italian varietals. Apparently, they are situated between 2 mushroom farms, so that produces enough natural heat to create a microcrlimate that can ripen the Italians. Who woulda thought.

  • No you missed my intent entirely. I was being sarcastic and many other Vayniacks will get the “inside joke”; you really did a great job. If someone else doesn't chime in I'll spell it out.

  • KnightWKNF

Great show definitly an interest of mine, living in one of the “other 46” (WI) and having some definite wineries that have some potential. I think a lot of it will coming down to the wineries finding their niche grape. Jason great job way to know your product defintily will see if I can find some of that merlot it sounds delicious.

QOTD: The first onside kick other than in the fourth quarter during the Super Bowl.

  • Yes, Shelburne Vineyards just south of Burlington VT, in the Lake Champlain Valley, is doing well with their Traminette.

  • allanj

I'm with you on this one

  • allanj

    chime
    !!!

  • castello

Well I'm not sure but he only took one little sip and spit it out. Then he condemed it to less than 80 points! At least rinse your mouth and give it another try before you say it's what wrong with the other 46.

  • cellarrat5

I have heard that. Alaska? That sounds improbable, but I am not one to judge, if they make decent wine, I will drink it.

  • lordsauvignon

Good show. Definite potential in that reason. Am really excited about seeing the blow up of Merlot in that region eventually.
QOTD: The onside kick by the Saints so early in the Super Bowl.

  • cellarrat5

Fair enough… Gary?s passion occasionally can get the best of him I suppose. However, the guy does drink a Sh*t ton of wine. After a while I imagin you just have to trust your gut.

  • allanj

Has any of the Vayniacs seen the movie Bottle Shock, and is it any good?
I have already bought it, but havn't seen it. Have i wasted my money????

  • NY Pete

we enjoyed it … but we saw it for free compliments of GV.

  • allanj

Hi castello, did you check out “oz and james sat nav” on youtube????
    Did it float your boat??

  • I replied before, but everytime I post a URL, it always says it needs to approve me comment…

But no, I get it, check out Helen's interview with 1WineDude, can't post the link haha

  • NY Pete

    mott strikes again … 🙂

congrats…say a prayer for me in may when i graduate. maybe your good luck will rub off : )

  • guymandude

Cool to see my old hometown getting some air time ,good for Pa and the Merlot.
Maybe you should have tried it with some Philly soft pretzels or cheese steak.

  • allanj

Stuper bowl, you kidding of course! ; )
    I'm more of a snooker guy myself……

  • Hey, I can't be mad at him, I know fair well coming onto the show that the wines could've been bashed, but that's Gary's job! I think he's done this long enough to give a fairly accurate rating of the wines. Would I rather have him try it after a 3 hr decant? Absolutely. But hey, everyone has their own palette.

Jason's a smart guy–I have a feeling the VaynerNation will be appreciative of his knowledge, given recent guest episodes (no pun intended). Shall I say, the situation wasn't Buehlered.

On another note, I've been to this vineyard and it was an enjoyable experience. Just graduated from West Chester University–in the town neighboring Chadds Ford. Kinda pissed that the locals didn't get a shout-out, Jason.

QOTD: When I sat down and saw today's WLTV was focused on a winery that I've been to.

  • Saw it, and enjoyed it.

  • Not at all. Much more of a wine movie than Sideways. Worth a viewing

  • Hate to bring it up again, but…

The contrast between this guest and the famous first guest of 2010 is the thing that shocks me. Here we have a very young man who's enthusiastic about wine, has the background in both the business and the agriculture, loves to talk and learn about wine, and has a great attitude about the product he is representing. Terrific showing from this guy, and interesting results in tasting.

Now time to try some Minnesota wines, GV.

  • allanj

Actually the Vaynernation should all go to youtube, and punch in: oz and james sat nav…
    Please!
And if you don't think that's funny, please respond.

  • Grill Factor

Gary you have to check this dvd out: “WWE: Macho Madness – The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection (2009).

QOTD: I went to the zoo 2 weeks ago and witnessed a chimp poop into his own hand and then feed it to himself. That was shocking. I bet if we went to some of these closed-door meetings in Washington these days we might see similar behavior…

  • Gary – great show. Love to see “good” wines from other parts of the country.

QOTD: shocked by the dismal season the Red Wings are having.

  • wayno da wino

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT????? Lady Gaga got Robbed????? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! 🙁

  • I gave a mini-shoutout to the locals in there when GV asked me about the type of people that come to the tasting room! Haha, was really trying to self-edit my content so I could keep the show short and sweet for you all.

  • allanj

    Funny man. ; )

  • I really appreciate the compliments! I can easily see how “the famous first guest” was a little bit flustered. I was shitting myself all week that I sounded like an idiot on the show. Gary is definitely a fun guy to get interviewed by, but that was because I had seen the show several times before and knew what to expect. For someone that had never seen the show, I can see how it would've been nerve wracking. Check out 1WineDude's interview with her if you want more of her story, she really is pretty cool and is working really hard at the business

  • SourGrapesFC

more like “won’t get booked again”

  • Gaga Ooolala

  • allanj

    Thanks… you did a good show. Gary's a tough dude… ; )

  • QOTD: That a wine from Pennsylvania did as well as it did on WLTV!

  • allanj

Thanks for the response, will be looking forward to it

    Cheers, my man

  • NIB

Not a bad showing for Pennsylvania, probably the only real downside, other than the last wine, was just the price points.Gotta give Jason props, bringing those wines to the show.Gary rarely ever pulls his punch's and is usually brutally honest, and if all the wines were as bad as the Americana, it could have been a blood bath…..lol.

QOTD:Probably the anemic performance last night by the Colts in the Superbowl. That being said, congrats to all the Saints fans out there.

  • allanj

Thank you for that, hate you for beating me in the top 10 today though! ; )

  • StevenL

QOTD- Manning's performance at the Super Bowl, 4th and goal, onside Kick, the Super Bowl was Shocking.

  • robrx

QOTD- Onsides kick which worked in yesterday's SuperBowl. That was shocking!

  • slave2thevine

QOTD: A pennsylvania wine…I had a magnum of 1986 Allegro Vineyards “Cadenza” last Friday night. Served blind this was something very VERY special. Not typical in any way of any Red (Cab, merlot, cab franc) Blend I have had before…but a stellar wine that was full of intrigue and excitement.

  • jeffsjeff

Thanks for pointing us toward that interview. Although it read like the answers were totally contrived, I give Helen props for caring enough to try to clear things up. Also for the record, I was in the “she's totally hot, I'd want to have a drink with her category.”

  • My comments keep saying they need to be approved, but I will be back on later tonight to respond to more people! Off to dinner now w/ the girlfriend

  • allanj

    Word!!!!!!!

  • QOTD: I forgot to answer but the most recent “shocker” that comes to mind is Brown winning Kennedy's vacant Senate seat in MA.

  • allanj

    Where did Dj keith go???
Been listening to alot more Presley lately, love a track called “Wooden Heart”. He's actually singing in german. That's cool.

    Rock on…….

  • bfr1028

    Still here 🙂

  • allanj

    Hey that was quick.
What did you think of today's show. I didn't like the host ; )
    A bit meh…….

  • carlo10

vanillan villan…this is starting to sound like mcdonalds characters. the ham-burgler…yikes

  • ONUMello

Nice guest, who reminded me a lot of me- 23YO, serious about wine, parents think I'm nuts, I have just been a Vayniac a bit longer 😉
QOTD: I just read the Cleveland Cavaliers removed all drinking fountains from their arena. They claim it's due to health concerns, but how effective is that unless you also remove them from every mall, airport, etc. To deprive people of free water (a basic right, in my opinion) is the lowest money grab a place can make.
