I started out thinking the guest wasn’t too great but he won me over in the end and it turned out to be a fascinating and entertaining episode.

What temperature are these beers designed to be drunk at???

QOTD: Doorstep delivery like the milkman used to do! 🙂

    Keith

  • Word Mr. castello…. Urquel & Stella are top stuff…….

What are your thoughts on belgian beers?

  • laurieinvt

Garrett is cool and a lot of fun! I'm going to save the rest of this episode for when the hubby gets home so we can watch together- it's that good! (Also, the Olympic opening ceremonies are about to start and Mom prefers that ….

  • MarkFitzpatrick

Just an AWESOME, RE-DONKULOUS show. Loved it.

Do more beer shows with Garrett. Some more shows this style with wine makers (in their place) when you can.

    Good stuff.

  • weinologe

Sorry but for a German this sound almost blasphemic putting all that stuff in a beer. All a beer needs is water, hops and malt. Its like putting some orange in a white wine to get a orange flavor 😉
    Great Show anyway !!

  • You are tooo Cooool man!

Keep on doin what you do!

Had a Torbreck GSM this evening..

  • Very good show! When some one likes there job it realy shows!

  • cubs2806

thanks for getting back to me, was it ever said why he didn't do another. how was the wine?

  • bfr1028

Here in the USA we dont allways do things the right way but, We Do It Our Own Way! 🙂

  • What a fun, charismatic and knowledgeable guy who is a dedicated craftsman.

Gary, why not throw in a few brew tastings throughout the month? I kinda like that. I'm not into sake and the likes of absinthe but a good, home/microbrew works for me any time.

QOTD: Distribution my man, distribution. I'm guessing it would be difficult for me to find your brew in the MD/DC/VA but I will be on the lookout for it.

    Cheers!

    GO BROOKLYN!

  • That's too bad. I liked it though I regress on the label. I guess I'll cherish my last few bottles.

  • Right on Man!

What are your thoughts about my new avatar?

  • bfr1028

I like it better than the empty ,ghostly, and generic one you had before. 🙂

  • Have you got rid of your cold…? How was that Ribeye + Wine, any good?

The snow is killin' me! ; )

    Almost.

  • Holy crap, after all 6 months of being a LURKER…. I’ve finally taken the step to make a post and comment on here. This was a great episode of course as always and it was nice actually to see the show go in a different direction then what we are all use to. Wine is of course my passion, but beer is right up there. Seeing the topic change off vino onto another favorite beverage was a great change of scenery. Also .. being up here from Maine, had to love the shout out Garrett gave our AMAZING Allagash Brewery here in Portland (http://www.allagash.com). I think so many people, just like with wine, have the misconception that most beer is the same, as is most wines. So it was good to see them actually giving the brew a ‘sniffy sniff’ and discussing the behind the scenes of the brew process. Excellent show all around, and in all honesty, I actually LOVE the longer shows. As long as its not dragging on, you get more information and knowledge. Though I know Gary has lately been a fan of the more tighter, quicker shows. Ahhh …. well that felt good, lets post this! :o)

  • Simpson's fan eh?

    E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!

Listening to Ramble Tamble by CCR… Rockin' !

Have you had any good wines lately???

Super guest! Never knew that beer could be as much fun as wine.

  • Well Weekends comin Up, So……………

I will be goin' blind this weekend………

Tryin' some blind-tasting…. Pumped for that!

Have an absolutely great weekend alllllll of Vayniacs!

  • bfr1028

Wish i could do that at work… LOL 🙂

  • Nice episode Gary.

I can't really answer the QOTD, because I'm not really a beer drinker and wouldn't be able to suggest anything Brooklyn could/should do. Nevertheless, watching the episode makes me want to head out to buy some of Brooklyn's offerings and do a sampling. Cheers!

  • bfr1028

Brooklyn is only 2 hours from here…I can still make it if i Hurry

  • slave2thevine

QOTD: I think it would be very cool to see a series of tasting beers where your company packaged up a collection of 90 ml bottles of EVERY beer that was made in a given year. I also think it would be great to see Magnums of your more age-worthy beers coming into the market. This was one of the great shows…I hope we see this on the side to the right in the near future…

  • Greg B.

Big G, lot's of fun. Great information. I was a huge Beer head before I got seduced to the Wine side of things. I will say this, “The best. . . The best Beer in the world comes from the Pacific North West. I promise you. Go to the Great American Beer Fest and do a little head to head with the rest of the country and you'll agree.

QOTD: I used to be able to buy Beers from the Brooklyn Brewery in Los Angeles, but no longer. So, what you could do for me is find your wonderful Beers back to Los Angeles. Thank you.

  • theslats

QOTD: Ship to Idaho? plz. At least enter the 2010 North American Brewers Competition.

I love flavor kick from brett and I consider myself to be a sourhead (sourpuss I've heard us called). Sour beers are like a good IPA and require balance before they are pushed to the limit.

  • JiminAtlanta

Definitely one of the best show. I did not lose interest during a very long show. I am a wine lover, but by coincidence I was drinking a couple of good American craft beers tonight (Ommegang Abbye and Weyerbacher Merry Monk). I think wine lovers should like good beers because of the interesting tastes. I have had Brooklyn lager and pils. Would like to try an abbye and belgian tripel style. I am all for a Vayniac beer. I like bret in wine and sometimes in beer. Slightly sour beers are good, but very sour beers are too much for me. Thanks for a high energy, entertaining episode.

Is it illegal to import a tripod into Brooklyn from NJ?

  • I truly wish you could taste along with me too….

    But i'm not a magician, so………

(You know it's actually a friend of mine who's tasting along with me. He's bringing two bottles for me, and i likewise for him)

It's gonna be great…. tryin' to guess price, country, etc…

    A treat for me : )

Hopefully the DJing will bring thunder for you my man!

This episode has been instantly bookmarked. One of the BEST wltv EVER! Loved it. What a guest! Garvy, more often than not, I go to wine store (of which we have one…) and don't see anything you've mentioned in your shows. And at that point it's between picking a wine I've always liked… or have an adventure in the store. Beer section is one of my favorite destination. Thanks a bunch for bringing this guest on. Made my day!

QOTD: Never had a brooklyn brew, so I guess it'd be best to find one nearby (or a place to order it online?)

  • SouthernBrewDude

Oh, HELL YES! That was awesome! Perfect beer guest for the wine show. Wish there had been more flavor dissection of the beer, but the sheer entertainment/education/gratification aspect was phenomenal.

QOTD: 1st off, the Vaynerchuk Beer- use some solid grape juice as the impetus and see where things go.

Second, Garrett you hit the nail on the head w/ the Brett + sour beer angle. When you were down here in Charleston a few months ago, I bugged you about adding some more bugs to your beer. Do it! Please! Brett, Pedio, Lacto, the whole deal. Barrel age it, sour it up, funk it up. We need a good east coast brewery to bring the sour thunder. Lost Abbey and Russian River are killing it right now, and us over here are only beginning to play around with it. It seems that Brooklyn could have the resources to really hit it out of the park. Maybe the Vaynerchuk beer could be the starting point (oak aged, sour, grapes in the secondary)- it could be awesome. (And yes, when this goes to market, feel free to email me for an address to send the royalty checks to 😉

  • bfr1028

Actually tonight Im making O scale Model train, Track and Switches 🙂

  • Samba pa ti, is a pretty nice tune…. i think

Well he's made a shitload of great music…. late 60's early 70's that's the top, even if you ask the man himself.

    Oye como va………? Word!

  • Super stoked to see you do a beer episode. I'll be at that Brewery in late April, can't wait to taste their stuff!

  • Scott

Love the episode, Gary. Nice to see quality beer from a smaller brewery featured on the show. I love the back and forth banter with you and Garrett. Makes me want to drop by, as it is Friday but it's a little out of my way.
    Cheers!

  • Great show and a great guest. His passion for what he does shows in his actions and his spoken word. Well done!

Gary, it looked like you weren't to fond of what you tasted. Is that true?

  • SouthernBrewDude

Beer, like wine, will have its flavors masked by the cold. Personally, I prefer about 55F, depending on style, weather, etc., and then allowing them to warm in the glass. But if you like white wine at room temp, you can def. rock beer the same way. Please, just no frosted mugs.

  • bfr1028

I dont mind warm beer , was just wondering what he had in mind when it was being crafted..

  • Allrightythen! Good luck with that! Bless You!

What the world needs now…. is

    Love

    Sweet love.!

  • guymandude

Like the new e-mail notification, much better.

  • Awesome show GV! Easily in top five WLTV guests of all time in my book! Had he said something like “it smells like beer” during the show, it would've been a different story.

Garrett is one fascinating dude to go from film school to being a brewmaster.

Victory and Allagash are two of my favorite American brewing companies, and I'm sad to say I've never tried Brooklyn Brewery beers, and that will change.

QOTD: Garrett, never had any of your brews yet, but I'm a big fan of hefeweizens (weihenstephaner, franziskaner, schofferhofer, etc.)…and don't know of any american brewing companies that are known for hefeweizens. Maybe a “reserve” hefeweizen bier with a Brooklyn zoo flava to it may be an idea. I've spelled bier with an “ie” on purpose, because my German friend told me the “ie” and the “ee” is a powerful difference.

  • bfr1028

Have you been sipping hard and long tonight??

  • Be careful… you'll be blown away.. i think.

They make great beers, what can i say?

    Have a great weekend! ; )

  • Not really Barefoot….

Just been listening to alot of Burt Bacharach, that's all ; )

  • bfr1028

    LOL 🙂

  • bfr1028

I think ill put some Zappa on the playlist tomorrow….I allready know that Frank goes well with beer 🙂
