GV’s prophecy that this week will be a phenomenal one for Wine Library TV whets the appetite…I can’t wait

    where's SS Chris?

  • Agreed, she is such a cutie! We didn't think the last episode was bad. We laughed at the ending especially. Worst prediction? We totally thought is would be nice to visit LA in December to get a little warm weather break, but it was raining and in the upper 40s. I think it was warmer here in Montana during the same time. We love the ice wines and would like to try the Inniskillen. Hey, you said we could have some if we posted, come on!

  • guymandude

Wow, a rare Misha appearance they are the best!

    qotd; My marriage.

  • frank

i predicted bill clinton would be forced to resign as president of the u.s. for “not having sex with that woman” who knew that was not having sex? finger lake region also make some primo ice wine

  • Gary PLEASE COME TO VIRGINIA TECH! Would love to meet you and drink some wine with you and maybe you being there could spark some more inspiration to start a wine club here. Anyways COME TO BLACKSBURG! We also have a pretty cool winery (not up to the size of WL but still pretty fun store) called The Vintage Cellar that you could maybe base a little tasting out of. KEEP US POSTED! Got me really excited to hear the shout out. Oh yea and good show πŸ˜‰

  • Good show. Side QOTD: Yes.
Inniskillin is actually the only Canadian wine we've tried and it performs marvelously every time (we can't find it for under $70 USD. that's another thing). It goes incredibly very well with a dessert that is almost unknown outside Mexico called “Chongos Zamoranos” if anyone has the opportunity I suggest you try this pairing.

QOTD: I don't think I have one of those yet. ( and if I do I'm not at liberty to reveal it ).

  • QOTD: Predicted the iPhone would never amount to much. Now I own one and love it!

Secondary QOTD: have drunk and own *lots* of Canadian (all BC) wines. Great wines; mediocre QPR.

Gary, disappointed you never made it to Vancouver for the Olympics as you had somewhat hinted you would do *many* episodes ago (I think back in 2008).

    Oh well.

    Great show.

My worst prediction. I bought into a product called Vidophone in the mid 80's. It was predicted to be the next big thing but it never took off and Skype certainly kills that idea and for almost nothing. My preference for Canadian wines tends toward Okanangan but the Inniskillin Ice wines never fail to entertain and the price is certainly right if you compare to German Ice wines.

  • Mott

Nope, did it the same way I've encoded it for a long long time. Viddler's encode today, ahem leaves a little something to be desired.

  • BTW I haven't had any but not from lack of desire, just can't find it here.

  • yacochuya

QOTD#1 Never had Canadian wine….but big fan of some wines south of our border (LA Cetto Nebiolo, Adobes wines)…when is the Mexican wine episode. Hopefully wont have to wait until they win the Gold in Hockey.
QOTD#2 when I was living in Italy, I told all of my friends an neighbors…”Dont worry. There is no chance in hell that Bush will win another term.” I got a LOT of crap for that one.

Great meeting you in South Beach. HOpe to see you in South Africa for WC2010.

  • Vay-ku

    Canada's ice wine,
    Looks like break-the-seal urine.
    Scores like Sid the Kid.

Worst prediction: I thought 15 people would click on “like” for my last Vay-ku.

  • Anonymous

I an a WWSC (1964) graduate but when I retired we returned to Birch Bay Village which is on the west end of Birch Bay where I started a wine tasting group 9 years ago. We meet once a month and have 40-60 people attend.

  • Jay

Ah, so the Viddler encode algorithm compressed it a bunch. That explains it. Thanks Mott!

  • ironmics

I'll tell the wine professors at Oregon State to start repping the show too, it'd be awesome if you could make it out there some time. We have a class that you'd be perfect for πŸ˜‰

  • Hope you got plenty of great photos during this episode, that clicking was driving me nuts. LOL. If you need a PR photographer, I'm for hire, my camera is super quiet. πŸ˜‰

QOTD: Biggest flop prediction: that Vernon Gholston would be a beast of a pass rusher. *FAIL*
QOTD (on the side) Yeah, but only the Inniskillin.
    Thanks for everything!

  • jimchem

The Birch Bay Wine Club just did a BC wine tasting. Of course, we are just 8 miles form the Canadian border.

  • alexkeywest

The ice wines are good, The canadian people rank #1 and #2 as the biggest assholes in the world: # 1 French Canadians; #2 English Canadians (Ontario);#3 French from Paris; #4 Jamacians, To put in perspective: US from Boston about #5; US from NYC # 7 US from So. Cal #6

  • zHeadless

Side QOTD : Of course I've had Canadian wines, I'm Canadian. I've had that paricular ice wine too and a couple of others from Inniskillin, they are indeed the best. Also Clos Jordanne needs to be looked at if you enjoy Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, they are really good.

QOTD : I predicted the Raider were going to be 10-6 3 years ago…yeah, didn't happen.

  • SS_Chris

    Thanks Gary….and you're right…..NY Pete, Kahuna, and Tim F are douches!! πŸ™‚

  • ONUMello

QOTD1: YES! In fact shortly after I turned 21 I drove by Inniskillin… didn't have time at the time to stop, a fact I could shoot myself for now. Fortunately my future in-laws live in New York only about an hour and a half from Niagara (and Finger Lakes for that matter!) so hopefully another trip will be there in the near future.

Interesting you said the vidal had not much acid: from the WS tasting note “Its sweetness is matched by bracing acidity, leaving a mouthwatering impression. ” and the winery “These exquisite fruit flavours, combined with invigorating acidity…”

QOTD2: Probably any football prediction I make- I think when you asked for predictions to be left in the comments this year, I didn't even get the TEAM right save for the Superbowl. That being said I do follow football closely, so it's not just a shot in the dark, which makes it even more frustrating πŸ˜› Glad I'm not a betting man!

Looking forward to the Chile episode; hopefully you can find some wines that crush it & sell them all out. I've heard some wineries got by virtually unscathed while others lost millions of bottles.

  • notTheFalseD

Unfortunately, there aren't enough people out there with the patience to count to 17…

  • winecrazy

Homey!!!!! What's with that camera?? I can't even read the label on that gold 94 point wine. What's up with that?? My HD Ultra Flip has a better picture. Might want to have that lens checked. Get Mott on it right away.

Also I STILL HAVE NO EMIAL UPDATES….and I now RE Subscribed for the 10th time. It's just not sending me emails on the show for some reason. I mean what's wrong with the diqus program. It seems that ever since you stared using it I stopped getting emails and I can't even get them after subscribing every day for the past 2 weeks.

Anyway, I liked the show. I'm going to try that Gold Wine.

QOTD: My worst prediction was when I told some poeple my email issue would be fixed.

  • divyamistry

Side QOTD: Never had Canadian wine
QOTD: I haven't had a disastrous predictions, yet. A near-future candidate might be in making however. The day Apple released iPad, I went all poo-poo on the thing. But seems like Apple might strike back, and I'd be eating my words.

Fun show! I'm yet to try any desert wine. I don't remember drinking a desert wine.. at all! So, may be I'll have to save up some $$ to give it a try!

  • Daria Kushmelyn

Yahoo, Canadian wines! Thanks for this tribute, Gary. Too bad about the Malivoire – I haven't tried any of their wines yet, but I've been curious, and now I'll know to stay away from the 2006 Gewurtz. (Not a big fan of Gewurtz, but I should maybe give them a whirl to see if I can find a few that I might like.) I have tried the Inniskillin Ice Wine, so I'm glad you liked that one – yes, it does get cloying after a while, but have it with some white, extra old cheddar cheese to counteract the sweetness. It's a good combination.

Worst prediction – maybe one that I'll make today, that Jake Pavelka will choose neither Tenley nor Vienna on tonight's grand finale of The Bachelor. How's that?

P.S. There are a lot of nice unoaked Canadian Chardonnays.

    Daria K of Toronto

  • NY Pete

no email updates … maybe you were spammed.

  • Congats to Canada…you guys deserve it!! Great episode Gary. Lil Misha is just a bundle of love!!

Big fan of Vidal blanc, we have a few really nice wines here at Travessia Winery made from that magical little grape….that grape just loves the cold weather, sometimes it is harvested in late November.

  • Neil

GV cried wolf back in EP 300 or so, thought he'd quit…….now we're over 800+ and counting. He does enjoy the Vaynerlove though. If more lurkers would come out and comment, he'd be happier.

  • NY Pete

WTF … you forgot to mention kittysafe … lol

  • Neil

QOTD: Worst prediction of all time: Jamarcus Russell was going to be “the cure” for the Raiders.

  • Art

    Gary
You had a chance to taste some of the best Ontario wines in Dec in Toronto.
What happened to the episode?? Did you tape the Jets/Bills over it?

  • Joan C. Walsh

Gary…Happy belated New Year…Sorry I missed you at the Boston Wine Expo…Aside from Brown winning the senate race…the Yankee's letting Joe Torre go…Haven't cheered for them since…How about telling the listeners how they make ICE wine? Joan

  • QOTD: Many many elections. 2000 Presidential, 2004 Presidential, 2006 PA US Senate Democratic Primary (Chuck Pennacchio is still the man).

  • rodphillips

Nice show- too bad you don't have any of the wines from B.C. I would be happy to send some if you want. Cheers

  • SS_Chris

Mottster…..appreciate the way you linked it up!!! πŸ™‚

btw, I was wearing a “Mott..Link it up!” T-shirt this weekend!!

  • SS_Chris

wouldn't that lock the comments? SSaD

  • Kara Macdonald

Good episode! I love to hear about Canadian wines (local for me). The Inniskillin is excellent – but it does get to be a little much after a glass or two.

  • NY Pete

    BLN

  • SarahJaneNS

Hey Gary! Great to see you review Canadian wines. I am Nova Scotian, and have had Canadian wines( ice wine, and others from Ontario/BC/Nova Scotia). You might try Nova 7, from my fair provence..a sparkling white wine that sells out here.

Worst prediction: for all you Canadians out there: I thought buying Nortel stock at 5 bucks was going to be a great idea……

  • I'm pretty happy you picked two VQA Ontarios, go Canada! And that was a terrible call on Nortel Sarah…

  • Green_Pea

I predicted that this Country would be smart enough to not elect Obama.

  • OttawaB

………. have I had Canadian wines ……….. Many.

Just want to thank Mott and Gary for doing a show on Canadian wines and for giving me a shoutout …………………….. NOT !!!! GFY to you guys to. ………. smiley face ………. since I'm not a BLN, I guess I can do without the shoutout ……….

  • So Virginia Tech? If you really want to spread your message of wine for everyone and opening the culture up, the CKCs in Blacksburg is a great spot! Hey maybe it will be a new thing for you, a college tour? haha

  • lurker here, made one or two comments many months ago.

QOTD: That the bottom is going to drop out of Napa prices and there will be a price reset for most $100+ wines. Probably going to be a lot of foreclosed wineries unfortunately.

  • Does http://www.boyerwine.com have an original wristband?;) Don't forget #SonomaState!

  • Moselman

SQOTD: 60 – 70% of my wine consumption is domestic (i.e. Canadian). Keep the pricier foreign stuff for special occasions, eh?

QOTD: Predicted (happily expected) when my stock portfolio was 'inherited' by the branch manager, my fortune would start to rise. HA!!!

  • Kirk

QOTD: That my '02-'07 Bergstrom vertical would rock….they bombed.

  • Go Hokies! VT class of 94'. I hope you do visit Blacksburg. It's in the middle of the Blue Ridge mountains. It's beautiful. Great label on the Inniskillin. I never had Canadian or ice wines so I will be sure to try them both in the future.

QOTD: I predicted I would be working in less than a year. Nope, still unemployed. *sigh*

  • agent orange

QOTD#1: Never had a Canadian wine as far as we can recall

QOTD#2: World peace by 2010. Oh, and we were so close…

Thanks for another good show Gary.

  • robbiec

Birch Bay! Wow, I haven't heard that name in years. Great place…I went to WWU and used to go up to Birch Bay to walk around and get away from everyone. You guys have a wine club?
