lines of the day – ‘Golden yellow; like if you drank a crap load of beers and haven’t been to the bathroom in a while’, and; ‘If you’re married you need to stay away from this wine, it’s very seductive’

GV’s prophecy that this week will be a phenomenal one for Wine Library TV whets the appetite…I can’t wait

  • carlsonr

Went on a bicycle wine tour through Niagra On the Lake about 4 years ago. First time I tried Ice Wine. Love it.

  • dmcgee984

Gary wow you just tasted on eof my fav's, the Inniskillin is GREAT… and yes I have had Canadian wine in particular thier ice wines. Thank you for review this, it is a great wine with a cigar, maybe even Cinnamon Toast Crunch, lol.. Keep up the good work you are a rock star in the wine world.

GV back in the house with passion. + a plug for The Great SS Chris. Good show sir.

QOTD 1: Yes, but not as much as I should have considering I grew up literally inches from the northern border.

QOTD 2: I was predicting Dow 6000 on the downside last winter. I tried to market time the damn thing and didn't pull the trigger. Now I am stuck drinking non vintage port. If I had jumped, I would be rolling with the 94 Taylor.

  • Bosco

    QQTD1: I've never tried a Canadian Wine.

QQTD2: In 2002 or three, I predicted a serious competitor to ESPN would emerge in the cable sports market by 2008. Obviously, I was way wrong.

    Gary,
Yes, everyone has their own palates, however, there are obviously differences between well-made and poorly made wines and wines that are just plain bad. As my uncle once said, “life is too short for bad wine”.

  • Green_Pea

    What ia a BLN?

  • notTheFalseD

    “Neighbours”… nice touch 🙂

  • vpass64

No Gary I haven't tasted any Canadian wines yet. At least that I know of. I did have a torontes from Argentina last night. I keep getting into more things south of the border rather than the north.

QOTD: We look aside the natural born American citizen qualification for president and vote in Sasha!

  • Just looked back to episode #42…Gary V please look at all the comments! Maybe next semester? Make it a football weekend? Sounds like a great idea

I have been to a winery in the Niagara and bought some excellent ice wine. I was surprised that the reds were also good. My bad predictions are too numerous to count, whether they be sports, political, or the stock market. Nobody can predict the future except by luck, though we all try to do it. I think Yogi Berra said something like – you can't predict anything, especially when it comes to the future.

    Good evening
If you can find them (We have some in Quebec):
Inniskillin Oak Aged Icewine Vidal 95$ (canadian)
Cabernet franc Icewine Andrew Peller Signature Niagara 2006 75$ (Red icewine!!!) Some red are made also from Shiraz and also Pinot noir
But the best icewine is made from riesling with nice acidity. Inniskillin is the best I ever tasted. As for “normal” reds, try Osoyoos Larose, Oculus or Clos Jordanne
    Serge Belleau
    Quebec city
And yes, icewine is bottled gold…

  • Jessy

    WOOOOOO! Let's go Hokies!!!!

We'd be psyched to have you come and visit us, we're 500 big in our Geography of Wine class and we watch two of your videos a week as part of classwork. Make it work!

(Also– you could totally bring the little one. She's adorable!)

  • What was all the clicking. Sounded like someone with a camera in the background. Stoped the vid could not get past the noise.

  • derekbernardi

I've tried Inniskillin Vidal Eiswein. It's as good as described, if not better. And Gewurtz if one of my favorite whites, along with Vernaccia and Gruner. All in all, good episode. By the way, I've been watching for a few weeks now and this is my first comment. No more lurking.

  • johnfasc

i love the inniskillin ice wine. i could smell it for days.

  • CharlieTN

Worst prediction: That I would never drive my mom's old minivan as my own car. Been drivin' the sucker for over 2 years now. But hey, it can transport all of my band's gear (plus the band itself)!

Yes, I've had Canadian wine, but only one. Jackson-Triggs Vidal Icewine 2007. Fantastic stuff.

  • Anonymous

if you meet Prof. Boyer soon, a reference for some extra credit would be nice.

  • sayshay99

love the review on the ice wine. i heard that Inniskillin also makes a cab franc ice wine that is absolutly amazing i would love to see you review that. they called it a “pantey dropper” lol that could be a episode on its own. panty dropping wines haha

  • laurieinvt

aawww! Misha's beautiful! But you knew that…

  • bwine

    Great show.
QOTD: I didn't think that the Internet would be a big deal.

  • I had a great chardonnay in Vancouver, British Columbia in ealry 2008. I wasn't expecting much, and it ended up being great. Nice beachwood and buttery. I am not usually a fan of oak, but it worked.

Worst Prediction: I predicted that the USA would not spend millions of dollars defending the people who flew a plane into and destroyed the World Trade Center, and killed thousands of people.

  • laurieinvt

QOTD: yup, but not a gewurtz. Interesting.

  • Phaser so sorry it goes away half way through:(

  • Holy hockey pucks! Thanks for the huge shout out GV! I am honored to have my name uttered on your awesome show! I have been co-opting your shows for years to get the students jazzed about the exciting world of wine, and no one makes it more down to earth and accessable as you do. That is your super-power. With almost 600 students this semester, I'm sure you have seen your numbers pop coming out of Virginia, and this is part of a larger trend I've seen for years with more and more younger folks getting into wine at an early age. Its totally awesome. The entire drinking culture of America is changing fast, and changing profoundly. I see college tour in your future!

You have a ton of fans at Virginia Tech, and VT loves GV for sure, and we will find a way to have your college tour launched from our little village of Blacksburg. We are buckled up and ready to go! What's the biggest live audience you have ever done? We will try and top that here at VT.

Had almost exclusively ice wines from Canada, and man, nobody outside of Germany does them better!

Worst prediction? I said no way in hell would NBC be foolish enough to ditch an on-fire Conan to bring back a geriatric Leno. oops. Roll out the Depends undergarments and get ready for more mediocrity now that the Olympics are over on NBC.

  • Yea Jessy! GOBBLE GOBBLE! I've been blowing him up on twitter and here so maybe we can get through! haha…also does Boyer say anything about a wine club?

  • Great post haha! Gonna try a second time to get in Geo of Wine next semester hopefully with better success 🙂 maybe I can some how help out with getting GV to come visit!

  • love the enthusiasm, and yes I am from Canada

  • IPv6Freely

WOOOOO CANADA! We won OUR gold medal! Not to mention 13 more on top of that (the most ever in history!)

Nice to see you spell “neighbours” correctly, Gary!

  • fair point BOS

  • laurieinvt

QOTD2: My worst prediction was at age 18 saying 'The last thing I'll ever be is a nurse!' It's been, um, 29 years now- glad I was wrong! 🙂

  • great show

  • DaveyJohnson

Good show, this is what a show is like when you arent rushing to catch a flight to Miami!!
I am not much of a dessert wine guy, when it comes to dessert or that last night drink I would rather have a great Single Malt.

QOTD: Wow, so many. I was convinced Willy Randolph was going to be our manager for decades.

  • Thanks for the shout out to Virginia Tech!! We would love to have you down here sometime! John Boyer has a website with lessons referencing many of your episodes: http://www.boyerwine.com

I some how have not had a Canadian wine yet. I need to get on it!

I agree with @plaidavenger about NBC ditching Conan – never thought that would happen.

  • Skidmore

    GO HOKIES!!!
Check out Prof. John Boyer's alter ego's news site: http://www.plaidavenger.com

  • zrm

    Bringing the A game Gary.

Mini QOD: never had a canadian wine.

QOD: Tearing at my soul with this one Gary. Part of me wants to talk about bad bets and football. Part of me wants to talk politics. I can't single out a worst its so hard. … 5 minutes later… 10 minutes later… i guess i predicted that that grad school would be going better for me than it is?
Gary your making me do an awful lot of soul searching here.

    -ZRM

  • That would be absolutely fantastic!

  • bhambrad

Okay, I'm a lurker. Not by choice, I have a 4 yr old and one on the way. I listen and have to run.

Never had a canadian wine, but the ice wine sounds phenomenal.

    BTW, I'm 31 today. Cheers!

  • leapinggnome

Plaid Avenger has it right; college tours for Gary. Gary V has taken a lot of us to school on wine. And what great messages Gary sends; trust yourself and your palate, drinking can be fun and fascinating even when done responsibly, and loving your family is a cool thing.

  • dsallen

94+ is the highest rating I've seen on the show! (only been watching a few months)

  • lovebarca

gotta love the fact that you rep VT.

    Love WLTV!

  • KVM1985

I liked this show…made me smile! I've never had a Canadian wine!

QOTD: I predicted that life would always be as easy as it was in college?

  • KVM1985

Happy Birthday!!!!!!! I hope it was fun!

  • gobble_gobble

WOOHOO Go Hokies!! GV and JB are the shit and I think the world might actually stop spinning briefly if the two of them were in the same room at the same time! I think we should try it and see…

  • AntonT

I have yet had a Canadian Wine. I have been to Canada many times but have not stopped to try some vino. QOTD: hurt my head so I had to stop.

  • mhughes1

Thanks for the Hokie! shoutout!!!! Lets Go Hokies!

  • That is freakin exactly right. Nicely played!

  • ahillsey

I honestly thought John Kerry was going to win the 2004 presidential election over George Bush….and man o man was I dumbfounded when it didn't happen.

  • Biznass

First Question – No Canada wine.

Second QOTD – I predicted tat I would get a job in the summer of '09….. it was a rough summer

  • QOTD1; Not yet.
QOTD2; California falls into the sea, summer games 1984, and I'm driving across the Coronado bridge. All is well.
