line of the day (to Mott) – ‘what did you watch last night…and don’t lie’

A few too many ‘in-jokes’ for me to get too pumped about this episode and a disappointing wine didn’t help

He does have a nice photo…:)

  • sailorman

The greatest overall guest commenter was jason from the Penn winery,,,,, he was all over that comment section,,,,, Oooopssss, major slip up. Nobody will notice…

  • D_Rod

I can feel Petey lurking in the background thinking of what to use in his next zing. The weight of expectations is building and you can't let us down Mr. NYP!

  • sailorman

I agree…. But what 'bout that kayla28? she's in there.

  • sailorman

Hey again. Hope i'm not freakin' ya out,,,, keep comin' back.

Are you a Red or White kind O Gal?

  • You are right, sailorman…I remember that episode. I guess Jason did not come to mind because, as a salesperson for Penn Winery, he stood to gain from the interaction with the commentors whereas 'Chris the Cop' did not.

  • Well, as I always tell people in the tasting room, I am a wine lover first and foremost, and then an employee of Penns Woods. I definitely have an attachment to Penns Woods because they are doing some real cool stuff from my homestate, so I feel honored I get to support that cause! But I never came on the show to sell anything (I think maybe 2 people bought from the appearance…) just wanted to give you all the inside scoop on PA wine before it blows up lol…

  • Kayla28

No… I love them both, but I just started getting in to white.

  • sailorman

Well, told ya'…. but you weren't the slip up. i was,,,

    I'm a bad sailor.

  • Your brutal honesty is always appreciated, Gary. I'm one of those who spent my savings on that 3 pack yesterday. Keep those under $50 3-packs coming with free shipping and maybe I'll give you the equity in my house. 🙂

  • WineWoman

    QOTD: Randi. Most polite.

  • sailorman

    Thnx, i think you rock!

  • ONUMello

QOTD: I hate to be generic, it tends to be whoever has a nice witty or sarcastic comment that makes me ponder or laugh. It truly varies from day to day. I also love seeing winemakers jump in the discussion and/or reply to people's posts about their wines whether in the episode or not. It happened to me and was a pleasant surprise! Glad they're humbled by people appreciating their wines.

  • lordsauvignon

QOTD: I'm gonna have to go with Mott.

Chenin Blanc looks worth the try.

  • No, sailorman, YOU rock!

  • NY Pete

    who's Tampa Steve?

  • Mr.Manhattan

    http://www.facebook.com/?sk=2361831622#!/group….

This kid is doing something interesting. Plus he is young and has an affinity for wines. check it out.

Gary sorry to see the disappointment in that last wine

  • Dominic C.

    Dang it, GaryV!

@GaryV: Where is the Mott tasting cam!? Whenever you pass the wine to anyone off cam, they NEED to appear on the cam! N-E-E-D!

  • Anonymous

DO IT! Pam Starr would be great!!

  • JasonM, the wine lover definitively came through on the episode. Sorry to hear that only two people bought from your appearance as it sure got Penns Woods on my radar screen. Living in NY state, I don't get to travel to PA too often, but I'd love to pop in for a visit one of these days…

  • I miss FloridaJim. Bring back FloridaJim! Even though his name's too long. But then, all those posters' names are too freakin' long.

I think I have a 2005 Chidaine Tuffeaux in the basement somewhere, should I be in any hurry to drink it? I'm starting to really dig old white wine.

I cracked a 1990 Aigle Blanc for my dad's last birthday … maybe I overdecanted it, but by the time I served it it had by and large lost the lanolin nose it had when I cracked it, and while it was texturally pleasing and everyone loved it, it was just kinda … sweet.

Last really great Loire Chenin I had was a Baumard Savennieres 2005 from half bottle; fascinating and original stuff.

  • sailorman

Agreed, she just said that i was good looking,,, or something. I can't remember now. Damn.

  • lordsauvignon

I agree. Gary we need a Mott tasting cam, or at least a Mott Mirror that could be put up right behind you.

  • You are not a bad sailor. You call it as you see it. I respect that.

  • Hahah, absolutely! Anytime your rolling through my neck of the woods, just let me know. Like I said before, I'm not a sales man, I'm not into the whole sales side of the wine business, really was just on there for the exposure

  • CharlieTN

    Gotta be Mott.

And if it's not Mott, it's Alan.

  • JiminAtlanta

I very much enjoy Vouvray and Chenin. Since I do not normally read too many other comments my favorite is me. I guess I need to start reading more comments.

  • elron

I've been on a few websites with FloridaJim a while back. He's a good guy and always has great notes.

  • sailorman

Ok, thanks. I love me some Gruvee and Riesling myself… maybe some Pichler & Trimbach?

  • Dominic C.

Alright, got around to finally watching after the devastating loss of being the first post.

All time, Mott but now I'm questioning it.

Current, GaryV but may fall after he hasn't put Mott on the camera.

I see his palate expanding behind the cam but he should appear too!

Now, the one that will always remain at the very top of my favorite commenter is:
    ME! I'm number 1!

  • missatiejacket

Nice episode. I love chenin blanc, especially from the Loire (although I've had an FMC that was outstanding as well). I don't have a favorite commenter, but I appreciate that you're trying to promote the social aspect of what goes on here and in your forum. Thanks.

  • Mott

Nah, I like being semi-anonymous. Besides it's funnier with my hand coming in from off camera.

  • leni

I had a Chenin Blanc last year, it was really good. Pineapple and pear out the wazoo. I didn't catch the brand though 🙁

  • guymandude

Lurkers are the best commenters , no?

  • sailorman

It's ok Mott. I think you should do what you like. Gary always does… ; )

You're the greatest camera man i've ever come across!

  • sailorman

    Thnx,,,,, Oooopssss

  • DAveAll

What about DAVEALL? man. no shout out? I've seen all 828. I'm too old to be mentioned. dang. (not cool anymore)

QOTD: http://kahunasfoodandwine.com/ he's real and has a little maniac kid and he's a great father as he is patient with the little monster.

I love Chenin Blanc – I also like Niagara. oh? you never reviewed that? try it. Vouvray, I like to say it. Vouvray! But then…

2nd wine most disappointing? man, we had so many shows that top that. snicker. Shirt tail out, ugh? so cool.

  • sailorman

    I like Viagra myself ; )

    Have been there..

    We ARE getting too old……

  • sailorman

Not really. They need to step it up a gear!!

  • elron

Thanks for the SO GV! It's been quite a while, I thought you forgot about me! 🙂

Keep up the excellant work brother!

QotD: The Old School Peeps: NY Pete, SS Chris, Kahuna because they are out of their minds. Recent peeps: Randi(because she's a lady) and D-Rod(real recent).

  • leni

JasonM, we are neighbors! I'm very close to the winery, I'll have to take a tour sometime this year.

  • sailorman

I'm an accident waitin' to happen……

  • Don Simpson

Gary – so glad you did Chenin Blanc, I am a HUGE fan too… I went through a period in the fall where I was drinking a lot of Vouvray, Tourraine, Savienneres, etc.

QOTD: favorite commenter = murso (impressive wine knowledge)

  • Moselman

Happens my last 2 buys were CBs. One from South Africa (no thanks), the other Argentina (just ok) Too bad, as I love CB, and the QPR. In fact I could as well have been Loireman as Moselman.

QOTD: Best ? way back when, was her name Jenn? Was a great guest, too. Now, maybe Laurie in VT.

  • sailorman

The man once known as Allan is now sailorman…. just think i should say it…. if you havn't figured it out already.

Thnx for the positive comments,,,,, but i don't really rock at all..

    We all rock together…!

  • Moselman

BTW, forgot to ask, Gary. Is this Francois Shiddyon related to Shittyon Shirt-tail?
    Just askin'

  • castello

    Illegal trickeration! Nice!

  • drt999

I agree. While there is a lot of dreck, sweet muscadine, etc. coming from the east coast, there's some good stuff (some at decent prices, too), from NC, PA, & NY, and I'm sure other places as well (I just haven't had any yet!)

  • castello

Yes, I think Murso knows way more than Mott about wine.

  • toddsmithwine

I've tasted the 2007 Chidaine Les Argiles and was underimpressed as well. I always been a fan of their wines. I actually opened my last bottle of 2005 Les Argiles last night. It was spectacular.
