  • loved your approach in q&a and authenticity you eloquently demanded it. I love the guy you love to . He was sweet and very sincere the scientist a bit of an err of condencention however you put him in his place. The big bald guy ok. He was approachable i didint mind him. Now pizza lenas in hartford, definatly bottle wine-o . at first i was turned off by “im the wine in the box” we made a jingle from alice in chains im the man in the box. ranking on its almost chincee quality however pinicing with punches and fruits i see no problem.just dont let me see the box. shit im so tired the cutie patootie the one you love and i too i have to watch the video again. need some serious sleep. ill repost just his question. thanks so much gary. muuuuuuah:)

Good show overall, but would have liked a more serious review of the wine.
QOTD 1: My mom and step-dad are giving my sisters and I an opportunity to start-up a wine related business…should be up and running by the end of 2010!
QOTD 2: In my home town of Eau Claire, WI the best pizza place I know is called Sammy's Pizza.
I hope to see more shows about South American wine on WLTV…Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and of course Chile! SALUDOS

  • Lvine

PS. I agree with a few of the earlier commenters…It's not easy to figure out how to login to disqus when your a newbee.

  • NY Pete

interesting … what say ye GV?

I’ll second the Piece reco here. Hard to pick a “best” pizza place, but this is certainly the place to check out if you have to pick one

  • Hey Castello, Fiorillo’s Pizza is now “The All New Fiorillo’s Restaurant” – http://www.fiorillos.com/ (638 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95050)

I don’t see pizza on their menu anymore, but their food did ROCK years ago.

  • Hey Guys

    Awesome show.

QOTD 1: Difficult one, perhaps as a teacher, it's more someone who offered inspiration to me when I was a student – my Year 12 Englsih teacher
QOTD 2: I haven't found anywhere in HK where I live that really rocks for pizza, but I'll give you a hint for China 'Pasta Fresca da Salvatore' in Qingdao
QOTD 3: Bottle, always bottle. I like the idea of cask or box, but I'd rather drink more different wines

    Cheers
    Andrew

I think the NHL strike is the only reason that poker even made it on TV. It’s kind of an accidental success.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, you would think he would just buy garyv.com off of who ever owns it. Or even the garyvee.com which is just one of those pay per click sites I use for all my parked doamin names. At least that ones not built out.

    Oy Vey!!!

  • QOTD #1: Several, but John Love and Mike Fry are two that come to mind right away.
QOTD #2: Bazbeaux Pizza (Indianapolis, IN)
    QOTD #3: Bottle

  • CharlieTN

Chris Moneymaker is from my hometown! I played baseball against his nephew!

  • porscheguy

Oh OH I know this one

    Shakespeares Pizza, Columbia Missouri

  • CharlieTN

QOTD 1: Good question, and a hard one for me, because I'm young enough that my biggest “push” from someone is probably still in the future. Right now, I'd have to go with my parents for all their support.

QOTD 2: Here in Middlebury, VT, the best pizza is Ramunto's. Great stuff, lots of toppings, great crust, pretty classic. In my hometown of Knoxville, TN, it's the Tomato Head, where they make some great out-of-the-ordinary pizzas with all sorts of crazy toppings. They also show local art there, which is nice.

QOTD 3: Bottle. I know boxes have potential, but there's still not much out there for the serious wine drinker.

I actually enjoyed the business talk in these eps. However, the guys did seem a bit disingenuous. Contrast their approach to wine with the approach of the guy from Gundlach-Bundschu late last year. Which approach is honest and real, and which is bandwagon-y, carpetbagger-y, and at least a little fake? I know that's how the wine business is these days, and heck, their wine may even be good. Still, I prefer to buy from the little producers who do everything on site, even if they aren't savvy with the latest marketing ploys.

  • mattgmann

Yeah, these guys were little more than wolves in sheeps clothing. Regardless if the wine is good or not, I wouldn't trust these “entrepreneurs” as far as I can throw a case of boxed wine.

  • Ellio

    To All

Great episode, I loved all the bander.

QOTD 1 I would have to say my wife
QOTD 2 COPPOLA'S Hyde Park, NY
    QOTD 3 Bottles for me

  • legrec

Hey GV exactlly what I expected a lot of oak. I would be curious to know how you would have rated that wine without these guys present. QOTD Le Maizeret in Quebec city Canada is the best Pizza West of Rome. Box or bottle what kind of question is that? Is anybody really going to say box???

  • Thief3

Dude, I'm a lot taller than Tom! But he's better looking!

  • DaveTM

Too long, and not a group I would trust for anything in a bottle, yet. I got tricked on the $9 jug wine. You may recall J. Laube (S/#! mouth) gave the jug a 90 or 91. The wine was not bad, it was just a box/jug grade wine… not a 90+ or one that I would buy or drink. I am happy for their success and hope it continues for them, there is a much wider wine market than me.

My palate tends to agree with yours (Gary) on my likes and dislikes. I will try to taste the show and compare your rating.

  • DaveTM

    Old ID

  • Howie K

I don't know if gary will see this, but can you do a wine library series where you, as an example, start in the north of Italy and work southward and talk about the wine from each region and something about it tasting wine from each region. E.g. barolo, barbaresco etc. I think it will make the understanding about wine in other regions of the world more understandable to americans, I know it would be interesting to me.

  • robbiec

I'm totally going to try that place in Qingdao next time I'm there. If you're going to Xi'an, the best pizza is at the Hyatt (They have a “California Pizza bar” which opens in the late afternoon) …a far distant second is High-Fly Pizza.

  • jsums

GV – Question: How do you think this stacks up against Gallo's play in the Gascon '08? I think that's a really solid wine for $10-$12. If you think they're pretty close as far as QPR goes, I'll seek out this wine because I'd rather support these great guys than the Gallo machine. Let me know… Thx!

  • So this bald guy seemed to me the only one who made sense. Got the idea that you weren't too honest about the wine.

    U could do better, Garrrrry!

  • Valentin

Great show. Got me thinking, i think i'll try a malbec tomorrow.
QOTD2: i'm outside us. best pizza 5 block from me
QOTD3: bottle wine for me, but i won't say no to a good box of wine.

  • How about you do a little of the back in the days-unknown grape varieties (SA_GRAN_TI_NO!!!) or crazy small producers who make pearls for good price! Tell us something more about the theory behind it!

  • MikePos

    Arizona = Pizzeria Bianco

  • jason carey

Message for Mott.. Why do you get video level changes when you put the fonts on? I am a professional video editor.. and this should not happen. what software are you using..

  • jason carey

I would prefer no wood and no RS myself. Both of these things cover up the weakness of fruit

  • smiledoc

WOW 4 alpha guys not using their iphones for 30+ minutes.
“mezza luna pizzeria” in Eugene, Oregon (mezzalunapizzeria.com)
Bought “The Show Cabernet” at TJoes last night for 8 dollars.

  • Allan

When you do taste it, please give us your own opinion & review on it… Could bring thunder….?

  • Ivan

Hey Gary!! I want one of the porters, Can you FedEx it to Mexico?

  • davidemillombard

I mentor w/ a group of millionaire trainers that gave me my first shot. Such a collective effort of giving that it would be disrespectful for me to name one.

Pizza: hometown of Pittsburgh is marginal for stellar pizza so I'd say just go to Primanti Brothers!

    Unequivocally BOXERS!

  • Anonymous

Hey, Amici’s rocks! Have you had Pizza Antica at Santana Row? They are all about that thin crust goodness as well, mmm!

  • corkscrew

Cool show, interesting guys. Hope I get the signed poster. QOTD-Conte's in Princeton (sausage and roasted peppers), boxers. http://www.winelx.com

  • Are you THE Tom Colicchio as in “Top Chef”? We are HUGE fans and it’s great to see you on here commenting if you really are him.

  • Great show! I so want a poster!! Would frame it too!! I want to buy this wine just for the fact of the mid-palate analogy!! Love The Show cab! Good Luck on your tour!

QOTD: Still kinda waiting but GV was a true inspiration to get me started!
QOTD2: Pizza well Chicago is the best place for it… anywhere in the city is the best!!
QOTD3: not a boxer rather have the bottle briefs!!

  • zrm

QOD1: My parents and everything they have done for me
QOD2: Wash DC gott go to matchbox http://www.matchboxdc.com/
QOD3: I get my wine mostly in Bottles. But i Love the Tetra Paks

  • Tom Colicchio

While you're in the area, go to Spiritos pizza in Elizabeth, on 3rd Ave. You'll never forget it. Promise.
Also, come to Colicchio & Sons on Sunday night – it's pizza night. 85 10th Ave, NYC

  • jolieelman

    1. QOTD – a old high school teacher informed me of an job opening at a local community college about 7 years after I had graduated high school. I got the job and I've been there a bit over 20 years.

    2. QOTD – I know of no pizza joints in my little community that are worthy of a mention, unfortunately.

    3. QOTD – I'm a bottle baby, myself! 😉

  • mattgmann

    nothing like free add space!

  • Richie

    QOTD 1: My dad.
QOTD 2: Well the best pizza I ever had was on a campground in Sorrento just outside of Naples. Amazing pizza, amazing place and even more amazing people.
    QOTD 3: Bottle

  • mattgmann

how's about some wines to drink while watching basketball GV. I should really be working, but there's too much good basketball on. Cuse just went down to Georgetown and Kansas is in a battle with 5 min left. Big ten tournament starts in 10min. MARCH!!!

  • Vay-ku

    Mid-palate crucial.
    Though no “Gold Bottle Gaga,”
    Free posters for some.

QOTD: Box…but only if it's holding 12 bottles.

  • edanch

I liked all the rambling business talk. Great episode. I've also met Joel a couple of times and I've always been left with a good impression.

  • missatiejacket

way to push for free stuff for your fans, Gary. I'll say again that I really like when we see guests who are in the business and really don't like the other guests (liked these guests a lot).

my last boss gave me an opportunity, though he didn't go as far with it as I would have liked

Leonardo's Pizza in Portland, ME is very good, but there are plenty of other good places around here (Portland Pie, Bonobo, Otto's)

I always buy bottles. I've gotten a couple of boxes in the past and some are good, but they're not consistent enough for me yet. I think it's a tough category because the marketing will do a lot more to sell them than the quality of the juice, and many people like crappy wine, especially if it comes in a cool package.

  • Neil

    QOTD 1: My Dad
QOTD 2: Amici's in the Bay Area
    QOTD 3: Bottle
