My brother likes Ramunto’s. The Tomato Head sounds similar to Bite Me- intersection of So. Union St. and So. Winooski Ave if you get up to Burlington. What year are you at Mdby?

  • QOTD: Santucci's Pizza in Norwood MA. It's NY style, GV would approve
QOTD 2nd place: I drink from a bottle or a box, I've had the good, the bad, and the ugly from both.

  • gk

you guys have to go to silver beach pizza company in st. joseph, michigan- a small beach town about an hour outside of chicago.

  • Allan

    Mott!

If you're awake, which i'm sure you are, ok.

What is your favourite Steely Dan track? Just curious here…………….. ?

  • Anonymous

lol! for the wine- clever idea, but I do not think I could get it past my lips- not a fan of green beer, either…
St. Paddy’s day deserves a high quality stout! 😉

  • meh

    QOTD1: family
    QOTD2: 2 Amy's DC
    QOTD3: Bottle

  • Can’t you just say which one you think is more sexy? Unless….

  • Allan

    Kayla28 where are u, when i need u?

And castello, wtf? under the weather today?

Well, this wasn't the most commented ep ever….!!!! HUH!

  • Mott

I don't have favorite track. All of their albums were different from each other that you can't just name one. Even Gaucho has it's moments.

  • Allan

Yep, Gaucho wasn't bad…. Aja is my favourite although all of them rock, agreed. Fagen & Becker are such a great combo…… Thnx for the reply, appreciate it ; )

  • I wonder if I am in 300 hmmm. Probably not.

  • mattgmann

I used to cover aja with my jazz group. Christian Mcbride did it on one of his albums and it was very good

  • Allan

Ok, that's cool. Aja is a faultless album. Superb production. Deacon Blues rocks! Well, all of it actually, even Peg. Black Cow,,,, the list goes on.,,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., ; )

  • teckdeck2008

Great show guys, I'll definitely have to try that malbec because i'm a big fan of the grape in general and I tend to go for the more balanced style myself.
Qotd1: My family, I just graduated from college in December and my family has been very supportive. Not to mention my parents have paid for my undergrad work. If I end up going to grad school like I want they won't pay for that, but that would I'd only have 2 years of school loans rather than the 4 to 5 which most people have.
Qotd2: You've got to try antonio's pizza in college station. they have great service and so many uniquely topped pizzas that taste like they were made by a transplanted new yorker…seriously good.
Qotd3: i'm more of a bottle person myself, but if i knew of a good box wine i would be tempted to try it. i just have a severe distrust of it because my parents drink that style of wine and its always the generic store bought brand style….which i hate with a passion. I almost dread going home to drink their wine because they always get the beringer white zinfandel which is all right in small doses, but worse and worse every next time i drink it. what gets me even more is that one time the picked up something for me that they thought i would like and they meant to pick yellow tail cabernet sauvignon, ironically they picked out something different that kicked ass with the steak lol. but that i've heard of that and it taste all right and i can buy it in the grocery store attitude pisses me off. sorry i'm off my soap box now lol.

  • mattgmann

I'm arranging a version of josie for our current band. We're working on building our cover repertoire. Also, trying to gain audience by playing at new places…..and most of them like at least a mix of cover material.

  • Allan

    mattgmann great!

Great to keep the truly greats alive…. well they're still alive i know, but, just spreadin' the knowledge is always good stuff. Pumped for the next ep myself,,,, Gary is going haywire on energy i think………. Pumpalisious?!?! wtf.

  • Allan

“Standing tuff under starsnstripes we can tell……..”

“What a glorious time to be free…..”

Anybody out there looking for a truly great album; Donald Fagen: The Nightfly.

  • Allan

Worried 'bout castello? has anybody seen that man??

Are you gettin' old castello??? Couldn't help it, sorry ; ) LOL.

  • Kayla28

    Hi Allan!…lol

  • Allan

Hey kiddo, great to see/talk to you again….

How are things, did ya talk to your mother? Had any cool wines recently?

Lookin' forward to the new ep? Pumped, myself.

  • Eric

QOTD 2: Best pizza in Buffalo is Bocce Pizza

  • Kayla28

Yeah I have been visiting here with my Mom is been great. I have not been able to go out wine tasting so far, but I did have a 2007 Casas Castillo Monastrell it was $9.99 and I love it.

  • Nick_L

I think some people are being a little ridiculous in their criticisms of these guys. If all you're here for is to hear Gary give his official, unbiased, heartless scores, I think you're missing the point.

The guy on the left seems to be one of Gary's friends and he has a new product coming out, so he asked to bring it on the show. So what? It's really not that big of a conflict of interest, considering Gary gave the disclaimer that he's probably scoring it higher than usual. Like I said, if all you're worried about is the integrity of Gary's scores, you need to chill out, let alone stop relying on him to create your preferences.

  • Mike N

    Great Show.

  • Kayla28

Allan do u know of any good value bubbly? My mothers birthday is coming and I want to celebrate with a good bubbly that is good but does not brake the bank.

  • Allan

Ok, spanish wine then. That's cool, have actually had a Monastrell myself this evening. Flor Del Montgó. 85% Monastrell 15% Syrah. It was ok. Don't know the US price sorry. But it's made by a dane, so i'm happy.

    Rock on Kayla28… See ya.

  • FingerLakesRVResort

Great show. I've had the Show Cab and it was very decent for the price.
    QOTD1:My Dad
    QOTD2:Guida's in Webster NY
    QOTD3:bottle

  • If I may reply; I'm not being over the top in my criticism, Gary always that he's not scoring a wine higher because of the guests, and IMHO he scored this wine 3-4 points to high, well, i got the idea of that.

And this guy sitting directly next to him on the (viewers) right, I think he didn't seem a nice guy. A bit cocky. But that's my opinion. I loved the business chat about Malbec in general in Pt. I, when it wasn't about THEIR wine.

  • Kayla28

Castello is still not here?…Wow he's slacking…lol… and where is Ny Pete?

  • Allan

If it doesn't have to be Champagne, then a Cava from spain will be good value. Or maybe an Asti from Italy (inexpensive), but Asti is sweet sweet stuff. Champagne is almost always a bit on the pricy side. Be sure to look for Brut or Demi-Sec on label though (Brut being dry, Demi-Sec being half-dry/sweet).

That's the best i've got. Hope i can help you a little bit ; )

  • Oh and to answer the QOTD's;
    1. My parents + wine store I'm working
    2. I'm not that into Pizza's……. 😡
    3. Bottles, although I had a real nice boxwine lately! 10 litres for 60 dollars (40 euros)

  • Kayla28

    Thank's ur awesome!!

  • Allan

    Thnx, u r not so bad yourself…..

You, with a little bit o me, we're changing this comment section,,,, with love ; )

  • Allan

    Both slackers!!!!

  • Nick_L

Umm… Read the title. The show is about THEIR wine. I'm not trying to be a jerk, and my original comment wasn't directed at you, but even if the guy seemed cocky (which I didn't really pick up), who cares?

Maybe I'm not enough in tune with the “web 2.0 social media revolution” to get it, but it always comes across kind of childish when people rise in indignation if the content of shows like this isn't created to their exact preferences.

Again, if you're really worried about Gary's scores, you're missing the point of the show. He's the first one to say that his scores shouldn't mean anything to you.

  • jjadamsfb

QOTD 1: I still that chance, you want to give a brother a leg up?
QOTD 2: American Flatbread/ Burlington Hearth Burlington, VT outrageous beer, wine and pizza
QOTD 3: I love me my box wine. I go for the 3-4 bottle size variety instead of just the 1L.

  • Allan

I've said this before on this ep….. Where was the passion from the 3 stooges?? Don't care about Gary's score…

People need to wake up…. Also the show had a really weird ambience/vibe. Kinda dead!

  • theDude

Allan, you seem a little skewed from center with your various rants (which I like by the way) but what's the deal with your profile pic? Are you like 95 yrs old?

  • I'm not worried about these scores, and I am certainly not feeling like a princess who wants everything EXACTLY to be how I want things to be. All i'm saying is; the whole setting was weird. Got the idea that these three Thieves were a bit too much like the people Gary talked about who will capitalize Malbec.

No “web 2.0 social media revolution” nonsense, I found these guys unpassionate, en that's all I'm saying. 🙂

  • Allan

Thnx Dude…. It's a pic of The Great Don Rickles! castello know this.

If you don't like Don Rickles, well, you'll not likely like me.

(I think Don Rickles is about 87)

  • Nick_L

You're really making my point for me. Why do you feel the need to pick these guys apart? What could they have done to convince you that they had the “passion” that you're looking for, and would it have been better if they were doing that instead of being themselves? Furthermore, what kind of person actually gets upset about some guys on a wine show not showing “passion”?

Don't we all have more important things to get worked up over?

  • The point wasn't that it is wrong to capitalize and make some money from wine. If you are faulting them for that, then all businesses and winemakers specifically are “unpassionate” and are there only for the money. The difference between these guys and the “3 corporate douchebags” is the quality of the wine and the price point. The guys on the show make a tasty wine for a tasty price. And, they are not looking to simply fill their pockets. That isn't their end all be all.
I thought this was an excellent show. The business side was very interesting. I think sometimes Gary has so much passion that it can almost make it seem like the guests don't have the same amount of passion. Not all passion is externalized.

  • Guys I like these guys but if you think I would tank 4 years of my blood for these guys, you have no idea who I am, I think if they wouldnt have been on the show I would have gone 88-89….maybe……the wine was good, I have panned wines with guests with people I liked more then these guys… PERIOD! I would not lose all these years of countless hours over a wine or a friendship, I just wouldn't

  • Allan u will like the next show!

  • yankee22

I give the show a C. Parts were interesting and I like Gary's rant about the future of Malbec, interesting. But, I found these brothers, albeit nice guys, a bit too entrepreneurial, and not that into making good, pure wine. Gimmicky, if you ask me. I also thought it was the most obvious exampley of Gary holding back on the wine. Clearly, to me, it appeared that he was not impressed but was reluctant insult three aggressive and friendly hustlers in the field.

    QOTD: My brother
QOTD2: Pizzaiolo in Oakland or Delfina in San Francisco. Both fantastic.
    QOTD3: Bottle and boxer briefs

  • Allan

Passion is not something you just bring on when the occasion needs it. It's something… well you just know it when you see it…. It's in the blood of the winemaker, ok?

It probably would have helped if the “small-talk” wasn't ALL ABOUT BUSINESS AND MAKING MONEY, then they would probably have come across more smoothly & palatable.. ?

Well, myself, i'm passionate about wine & i don't see no need for the business aspect in there at all…… although i know that's not the way the world goes round.

But what do i know, eh?

  • We believe you Gary. Don't listen to the haters out there. We have watched you for a long time and know what you're all about.

  • guymandude

    Amen

  • Allan

    Agreed!

He should just say it like it is instead! Like he always does! Gimmicky…. Word!

  • Allan

I respect what you're sayin G, but aren't they (just) makin' a buck?

Have they got the passion with them? Isn't that what (great) wine is all about? or have i missed the boat?

Tell me now, so i know.
