The first blind tasting where GV hasn’t tried to guess where the wine is from. Booooo

Well, I'll take the short show over no show, so I guess that means I liked it.

Brown bags… I try to use my own canvas bags at the store, so the bags I do have usually get used to recycle newspaper. Wow, I sound so green.

  • Meh! That's to easy a show. 5 of those this week, right?
Austrian riesling or gewurz or veltiner is usually packed with acidity

QOTD: Cant remember when I put anything in brown paper bags, … oh wait, forgot that we recycle leftovers in them, making biogas of all the biological waste in my town… so biological waste then πŸ™‚

  • O, I thought you meant Randinthecity, she seems to be a peach πŸ™‚

  • WineTechie

First post! Been watching for a few months. I do like the 'brown bag' shows, better with 2 or 3 bottles.

  • theDude

Excellent!! Because peaches are the bomb!!! (there is however a singer named
“Peaches” and she sings a song called “Bag It” that is rather naughty)

  • theDude

I am sure Rand is a peach!!!

  • Wow…talk about a driven show. In and out! A shame this riesling came up short. 7-hour WLTV? Hmmm…I'm thinking of a charity marathon already.

QOTD: Much like everyone else, a fine craft beer or a chilled wine if we're on a picnic.

  • theDude

    the Dude likes!!

  • Wow, shortest episode I've ever seen! (is it the shortest? in WLTV history?)

QOTD: Barbeque beef sammich with onions and provolone from Alamogordo, NM's Brown Bag Deli!

  • Katie

love the brown bag tasting, that's the most real way to see what you like… Speaking of Rieslings have you ever tried the Claiborne and Churchill out of SLO? it's a nice overall wine and only $18
QOTD: Cabernet's because they can be some of the most over-priced wines and it's interesting to see what you like not based on cost

  • Gary, like the strategy for the week and look forward to the remaining shows.

QOTD – a nice bottle of wine and some great cheese for an outdoor musical performance. Wow, I can't wait for summer to get here!

  • NY Pete

    3:47 … are u kidding me?

  • cwpeters

Love the blind tastings. This is the absolute BEST thing you do. Review the wine without knowing price or anything and then say if it is a buy or pass based upon the tasting. Awesome. Keep these shows coming!

  • NY Pete

    Happy Birthday KAHUNA!

  • KJTemplin

I very much like the brevity of this video. Maybe the next one you can do in under 2 minutes.

  • johnfarrin

QOTD: This must be a young group of first responders. Wine? Paper bag? “What's the word?? Thunderbird!” πŸ™‚

  • 2shrt

(that a short enough comment for this episode?)

  • QOTD, Well….when I have to take the dog to the vet I have to put some Po….. oh never mind.

  • noahnoah

    ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz

  • Awesome show. Quick to the point. Loved it.

I haven't put anything in a brown paper bag in 20 years LOL

  • Steve_T

qotd: bananas and peaches, it helps them ripen faster.

  • Robby Mac

    QOTD – ex-girlfriends πŸ˜‰

  • Short and to the point, cool. Haven't had a Riesling in a while…

    QOTD: toys.

  • jdappel

I agree that you need to do two wines to make a show of this length really interesting. I know KMurph can create some fine battles.

  • JimboJones86

QOTD: A nice bottle of Bordeaux…MMMmmm…

If you're still out there DPnCali I'm still willing to follow through with our little wager we made a while ago. I guessed 90 points. Leave me a comment if you feel like it.

  • Roberto A. Rojas

Great show, love the short version, quick and to the point…

  • drt999

LOL at the QOTD — would hate to see some possible answers!

    (carefully not answering)

  • ONUMello

Interesting format, but a bit short- I'd prefer 3+ wines.
QOTD: Groceries, much more environmentally friendly than plastic. (When I forget my reusable bags, which happens all the time!)

  • johnboston

    answers like: your mom

  • Gary, did you see Garrett Oliver from The Brooklyn Brewery, New York was just nominated for a James Beard award. Just saw it on CNN's webpage. He was a great guest and didn't know if you knew he was nominated.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE the new ending.

  • 3:47……… srsly? Hehe, little bit TOO short?!

QOTD: Red Loire, German Rieslings, Austrian GruVee's OR OR OR!!! (Alto Adige) Gewurz!

  • legrec

Too short. Try to double it with two wines so you can compare them. I like the idea of a 5 min show but at least two bottles.

    QOTD : Fresh Donuts…

  • gubbiotti

i love the BS 4 minute episode… like a pop song.
the few wines i have had from austria i have liked quite a bit… need to hit it up more. need to go there too!
QOTD – mushrooms at the market.
good way to start the week out gary

PS – i while back you said we would be looking more into the o6 bordeax…… zup with dat? hit us up. they are in full effect now in stores i want some. the prices seem to have come down a bit and there are really nice bottles out there…. hit us up GV!

  • pawncop

Very interesting concept, I like it. Thank you for the information.

QOTD – Money is always good.

  • pawncop

QOTD – Of course most of the time I am placing evidence in brown paper bags.

    But money is still nice.

  • carilius maximus

    ….My ex-girlfriends' face???

  • jawshy

QOTD – A nice cold can of PBR as I am playing horseshoes and hanging out with the rest of my redneck brethren.

  • DAveAll

QOTD: peaches, or money, or rubber bands (they last longer) or dog poop and light it on the porch of a friend. FIRE FIRE! Stamp it out!

  • NY Pete

me thinks this episode should have an * next to it … you know like moderator** … or Barry Bonds** … GVaD … insert it here.

  • Englishexlurker

much much prefer longer shows with several wines. Especially the blind tastings with say 5 wines. not a fan of this format.

QOTD tempted to say something rude but will resist. Ginger, Galangal, tumeric, lemongrass, are some of my favs.

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Bread and wine–preferably a Krug Rose(which I can't afford) or some Pommery Cuvee Louise(which I also cannot afford) must settle for the blue bottle of Pommery.

Sometimes a quickie is good–WLTV episode that is.

  • Awesome format Gary! Let's see more of these. Don't even let her write Riesling on it next time!

  • prasm

Gary, Gary, Gary – this is a w-e-e-e-e-e-ak episode. “Wanna get to 1000 before the end of the year” kind of feeling to this one. That's it – that's all this deserves.

  • slimdogny

Like the format for maybe a week. Prefer some longer shows with more info. Head to head rocks. Head to head blind….hmmm…

QOTD: Avocados and other fruit needing ripening.

  • I don't mind some quick shows now and again. However, I like the blind tastings to be with a few bottles.

    Time for a new shirt…:P

    QOTD – My Lunch

  • slimdogny

Like the format for maybe a week. Prefer some longer shows with more info. Head to head rocks. Head to head blind….hmmm…

QOTD: Avocados and other fruit needing ripening.

  • Meh.

    QOTD: Usually wine.

  • Honestly, I didn't like it. Too short, not much to it. I love the 13-19 minutes range the most, when you taste 3+ wines, compare them and chime in with many valuable insights and interesting stuff. I honestly just watched it, with no ooomph.

  • dsallen

GARY! Slimdogny nailed it: I like more info. Short is still cool, but add one more for a blind Head-to-head! Blind H2H ftw!

QOTD: Pizza. Don't ask me why.
