    QOTD – lunch… duh!

  • Anonymous

Actually, it’s a “buy or pass” based on the PRICE/score…but you KNEW that, didn’t you?

  • Anonymous

    Excellent point.

  • thaklanksta

Have a little fun fun. Love it!

  • orangebottle

    What? a 3.47 min. I think it's a record.
QOTD: I like to put my head in brown paper bags, then poke out the eyes.

  • thaklanksta

    QOTD – Beignets

  • Any kind of alcohol

  • Jon McD

Good one. I like the format.

  • bhambrad

    blah…..riesling + 3:45

  • bobbytiger

    Is it over?
    Wham bam.
Actually, if you are going to do a blind tasting of one wine, how much time do you really need?
Every now and then, a quickey is a good thing.
    QOTD: On occasion, tomatoes.

  • winemonologues

That's it?? 😉 I kinda like that format. . . maybe not all the time, but, say once a week?

Interesting to see you taste wine blind and see your impressions. . . more people should try that. Did that once at a wine party with about 20 friends with 10 different wines and the results were very surprising to everyone!

    Gary,

Lurker popping in. Sorry-been watching all yuor episodes on IPOD when on the plane so no way to comment. I think you should guess region/year and really impress us before you rip off the bag. I think more of you is better. 3+ minutes too short. You look tired my man. Get some sleep.

  • ErieWineGuy

Blind tastings are always a treat to watch – learn a lot too.

I always appreciate anything you put up on the screen, because I always remember, that you don't have to do anything at all! It's up to your discretion and schedule, and I just sit back and enjoy.

    Thank for another show.

  • Pat__B

QOTD: Almonds, roast beef sandwich and a juice box.

  • I'm loving the short format…

    QOTD: a tall-boy of Corona w/lemon… I'm from Jersey & that's how we do

  • rambler289

Best Answer of the day, maybe a new thing, top liked should be shown under the episode.

  • KVM1985

QOTD: Bananas when I want to make banana bread in a few days and I need my fruit to be overripe!

  • Anonymous

I think you should dig into the archives either way. Whenever I’m disappointed with the recent shows, this is what I do, and I keep finding goodies. But maybe you already saw it all once? I just saw the show with Bobby and Brandon (#530) and really liked it.

  • JohnsGSD

But G, I like the epic 7-hour WLTV episodes! 🙂 Jeez, and to think this is all we would have gotten from you had you 'veered off the bad path' onto the one the execs were tempting you with way back in the circa Episode 58 days…

Ah riesling, my favorite white wine. Dig the format, curious to see what you have in store for us later this week!

    QOTD: peanuts.

    John D.

  • Gary:
Since you got the “thunder,” I can't object when you do lightning-fast shows. My experience with riesling is that, because it's such a great grape and made into wines with such a variety of acidity and sugar levels, I'd really have to find the right food to taste with it in order to judge it properly. I'm guessing that the Rainer Wess (“Vess”), which seems to be semi-dry, would pair really well with Japanese dishes like sushi and tempura and in that case might be worth the $$ outlay.

    WWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??????????????

  • Beeper

Love this format. Won't have much time to watch the show this week, so this keeps me from having a WLTV marathon during my son's naps this weekend…

    QOTD: CO2

  • Prefer 4-6 wines in the blind tasting shows

  • Save the short shows like this for weekend surprises/extras

  • audiofan

    It's a record, alright…a '45'…

  • Dynamite! Love the short and sweet.

QOTD: Questionable publications. For the articles.

  • audiofan

    Book deals, traveling, guest spots on TV, …family? Get used to it, kids…the 60-second show is where we're heading. A weeks worth of shows all recorded in one frantic six-minute time span (5 one-minute shows & an extra minute to change shirts five times real fast). Give those arm-pits a sniffy-sniff before you put 'em on! ;~}

  • Paul Blank

Gary short and to the point but missing your flair and passion or thunder.I hope what ever situation you are facing or dealling with will heal quickly. You touch alot of peoples lives in a positive way. You might feel crap dude ( not wanting to hear this my little pony ).We CARE.

  • LMNOPinot

Gary, I didn't like the 3 min episode and if you're going to do a single blind why not make it REALLY blind. You guess the grape, Country, $$$ and region. That would be better.
QOTD: Avacado's when they are not ripe.

  • Bill_Murray

Gary, what can i say? I know you know what i am thinking and so i'll just leave it at: Everyone is allowed a Karl Malone Friday every once in a while, and of all people you have earned your stripes, but lets not forget what got us here.

QOTD: In Buffalo we used to pour OJ into quarter drunken 40's of Old E or Colt .45 and called them Brass monkeys. Best served out of a paper bag.

Lets talk about the forgotten vintages of Bordeaux: 2004, upcoming 2007 & 2008, and discuss whether paying up for the 2005's, or even more topical 2009's is really worth it if the intent is to consume. Youre the man.

  • Allan

I would rather have 3 shows a week with quality content, than 5 shows taped in one bull-c*** marathon-session. Opinion brought!

    Mott, take over!

hopefully, that's not the future audiofan…..

Qotd: Will Gary stop the thunder show when it reaches ep 1000?

  • Allan

    Nail hit on head, audiofan!

  • Allan

If he keeps on doing this kind of thing, he'll lose his credibility.

  • orangebottle

    Ha!

  • MarcBelgium

Gary, that was very short. And just one wine?
    No, didn't like it.

    QOTD. – 5 min episodes.

  • don't bother with the sniff, it's a clean shirt and internetTv don't have smell yet.

  • JC

We all have off days at work. But most don't let it show. Imagine a lawyer having a bad day in court…someone gets screwed…or a doctor having a bad day in a hospital…someone suffers more than usual. This is just a wine blog/discussion. I won't be losing sleep. Lets be real people.

  • BuddhaChu

I liked the episode, but I thought of the same idea as you. Gary should guess everything about the wine like you mentioned.

  • BruceS

Let's call this one “Episode #835.33333.” Why? Because the show count should only go up when we actually see a show. Sorry, but this little blitz weighs in at about 1/3 of an episode. I've seen in the comments that many folks we're pleased with this format and GV himself didn't seem to either. His affect was about as flat as a pancake. It's maybe time Gary cut himself some slack and took a nice vacation. Time to recharge. He's more than earned that!

  • BruceS

Make that “many folks were NOT pleased.” Typing without coffee at this hour is dangerous. 🙁

  • BuddhaChu

QOTD: Brown paper bags are best used to carry your lunch to grade school then pop the bag with a loud bang thereby getting in trouble with the cafeteria-monitoring teachers.

  • plcb

QOTD: I brown bag my lunch for work. I'm on a PB&J budget working for the PA Wine & Spirits shop.

  • Oakmon’s BF

It might be the 2nd shortest. There was a gag episode that he started and then pretended that he had to run off.

  • PurpleGrillz

@GV ….. Not allowed to mail in the Thunder Show. Would rather have no show, if you need a break, by all means, do so.

Anyway, thank you for all you do and whats up with the NCAA picks? I called Saint Mary's, anyone else get them, Cornell or Northern Iowa?

  • tflangan

I like the “seven hour WLTV episodes.” Well, not eally that long, but one wine review seems a bit stingy. Blind tastings are always better with two or three wines. And who knows, you might mind a good QPR instead of a PAZZZ. More wines, GV!

  • DanLacher

Thanks for a great quick episode, I love the long ones but a quick one bottle tasting is great to see once in a while.

Rieslings are a wine that I still have a hard time with, I have had a few to many that are to sweet. So I have either not paired them well or just made some bad selections.

QOTD: Peaches that need a little time to rippen, as well as an avocado for the same reason like LMNOPinot stated.

  • nitaT

Rieslings … I gained a new appreciation for them when I took a class at the International Wine Center in NYC. Its just like everything else, if you buy one that isnt that great you will think thats how they are unless you have a good representation of the grape.

QOTD: I packed my sons lunch almost every day of his beautiful life.. now he is in college.. 🙁 no more paper bags needed in my house.

  • yapdiver

Like the quick episode. Cutting out the fluff & comedy can be refreshing now & again.

QOTD: I like to put unripe bananas in brown paper bags to speed up the ripening process.
Back in the day we would brown bag our 40 oz beers to hide from the PO PO! Which really doesn't help because an open container of alcohol in public is still a violation whether it's concealed or not!

  • QOTD: Numbers from 1-12 to be drawn to determine the order of my fantasy baseball draft

  • Anonymous

Frankly, I don?t know how he has kept up the relative quality of the episodes thus far juggling all the aforementioned parts of his life. I would not be surprised if your prediction was accurate. I hope that he keeps us guessing. I seriously doubt he will keep up the 3+ minute power shows for the rest of WLTV?s hopefully informative and entertaining life span.
