great no-bull show, i like this format. just to bad that Austria did not step up

  • Anonymous

I just watched the BLTV (blood library TV) episode, totally stupid. But I would be lying if I said I am not a fan of stupid humor. I really enjoy digging into the archives, especially really old episodes to see how he has changed his style. I think we should start a historical review of WLTV, the good the bad and the thunderous.

  • Bill_Murray

i dont know if i would go that far man. Everyone mails it in every once in a while. I was just pointing out that for the people that pay attention and appreciate the work, it doesnt go unnoticed and so a good natured jab is called for. If i dropped some halfhearted comments on here, you can bet he would be in the comments section blowing them up – which is why it all work so well!

  • Lvine

Along with many others, I'm a bit disappointed with this short show. I would have liked to have seen more than one wine, more discussion about the wine(s) and about riesling in general.

QOTD: first thing that comes to mind is a sandwich, like back in my school days.

  • kasperhip

1 blind is pointless, 2 is ok, 3 is great, and 4 or more is awesome. And I mean totally blind.

If this show is an indication of a general direction the show is taking things might get boring pretty fast….I like the variation, long shows with guests (who know stuff about wine), short and sweet ones, and Gary on his own giving out information. Keep up the good work, my man!

QOTD: What's in the bag??? You can find out for yourself if you put your hand in there….no don't look!….can you feel it?….I know I can….

  • hollisdevillo

no bagged sandies anymore? you're missing out man.

  • hollisdevillo

or maybe just let him do what he wants because it's his show. make your own if you can do better.

  • hollisdevillo

what? that's bull. get off the horse, man. if it means you'll stop watching then hopefully he'll lose his credibility.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    BBBBEEEEEEEEEECCCCCAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!!!!!!!!!! :o) :o)

  • corkscrew

Not a huge Riesling fan, a bit too sweet for me. QOTD-wine…go plastic with sandwiches. http://www.winelx.com

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

Used ta carry me “Dookie” (a Jack Daniels Concocksion) in a Brown Paper Bag in me
    younger days……….

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

Yo Corkscrew, Ya gotta try Alsace Rieslings!!! 99% of 'em are Dry and
DEEEEEEEEELIIIIIIIIICIOUUUUUUUS!!!!!! One of me FAAAAAVORIIIITE Vinos!!!!!!!!!

  • NIce, quick, and to the point.

    QOTD: Wine.

QOTD: About 25 to 30 years ago I liked to sit in office meetings and drink from a bottle of Perrier concealed in a brown paper bag. This served two purposes. Firstly, it concealed the Perrier. Back then a lot of people couldn?t wrap their mind around the notion of paying for water. And many of these people were unfamiliar with the concept of letting others do as they wished without criticism. Secondly, it messed with people?s minds, something I love to do.

A character in ?To Kill a Mockingbird? drank from a brown paper bag. He found that if the town wrote him off as a drunk, they were less inclined to tell him how to live his life.

I don't think he'll lose his credibility, he's to clever for that. And many of the commenters are too kind. But if the previous 2 ep's is the future of this genius show, then i think i will loose interest. I think he was a bit “tipsy” on the last couple of shows… (read his reply to Bill Murray ep #835)
And if that's the case, that's not being serious, about tasting wine and breaking it down for us Vayniacs. Hope u understand what i'm saying? Don't take it so hard man!
I only want the best for this show, because i think Gary is a great guy.

  • Not sure I understand the concept. But I'm sure it allows you to tape all the episodes for a week in half an hour, which is good for you!

QOTD. Wine goes in the paper bag every Saturday for our blind tastings…

  • Ditto! There needs to be more wines for this to work!

  • wyotim

Sweet Rieslings are not for everyone however, If you like spicy food (especially Thai) try a Riesling that is on the sweet side and have a dry wine that you would normally drink with such food. I find that the Dry wine will lose all its character and be somewhat tasteless; however the Riesling will lose its sweetness and come across as a very lovely wine. Try to find a Quality Riesling like Dr. L, Kung Fu Girl or wines imported by Rudi Wiest.

  • Nice format… way to change it up //

QOTD: My wines I bring to a blind tasting 😉

  • Love the short and sweet episode! Doubly love the blindness of it!
QOTD: groceries, lunch, and wine of course!

  • cellarrat5

going to have to agree with waynoooo here, all the Rieslings and Gewürztraminers I have had from Alsace have been dry and deeeeeeeeeeeeeeliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiciouuuuuuuuuuuus as well.

  • Bredsun

Epii was a little short for my taste, I thought 2 wines would have been perfect. I like the brisk pace though.

    QOTD: A 40 of OE…kickin it old school…

  • SourGrapesFC

qotd: I just put a lot of yard waste in brown paper bags (really big ones) and put them out for curbside pickup, but i don't know if that qualifies as a “like”. I do like to put peaches in brown paper bags to ripen them up.

  • SourGrapesFC

reactions like this remind me of why Dylan wrote “It Ain't Me, Babe”

  • QOTD: If it's not wine, it HAS to be popcorn!

  • Hypersomnia

Not a fan of the one wine blind tasting (at least two would be better). Also under 4 minute episode is a bit skimpy.

QOTD: Usually wine I just bought from Wine Library. 😉

  • adrums

Enjoyed it, but I do think three (or more) wines makes for a better show, as it facilitates more of a discussion of the particular varietal or region at hand…
    QOTD: Dried Mangoes

  • Richie

Short and to the point. I like it. Maybe do some head to head blinds that would be great.

  • Gary, I so admire your passion. I've been a fan for years, and was a daily viewer for a long time. I just haven't had that much time lately. But you're still here. Doin' it. Livin' it. Thank you.

    QOTD: My head.

  • Given the choice between a short show, and no show…the short show would win out, and there are plenty of other wine videos out there if you have time to burn, and plenty in the WLTV archives.

Had a great set of Mosel Rieslings yesterday at a tasting, '05 – '08 delish and great price points: St, Nikolaus Hospital, Ernst Schiffman, klaus Meirer, Johann Wilhelm, Philipps-Eckstein.

QOTD: big paper bags full of wood shavings for the donkey stalls.

    QOTD

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    ALSACE ROOOOOOOOOOCKS, YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂

  • D_Rod

QOTD: 40's of OE. No not really.

btw, don't think I didn't catch the Biggie reference in there. Well-played, sir. Well-played.

  • teckdeck2008

Qotd: Nothing really i don't have to hide the fact that i'm drinking cheap stuff lol. i'm broke so people understand.

  • I'm digging these hit and run episodes. Gonna be a good week.

QOTD: Drugs, money or the head of my ex-boyfriend.

This is not gonna be posted right? oh boy……

  • Oakmon’s BF

Episode 69 was the one I was thinking of. It was 1:16.

  • I like the blinds too. I'd like to see your tasting notes also try to pinpoint the appellation of the wine, like a New Zealand sauvi blanc (ok, that would be a no brainer lol)

  • Awesome, quick episode. Definitely like the short format and blind is tons of fun too.

QOTD:everything is better out of a paper bag. cats like them too

    Cheers!

  • devchang

    I like this format.
    QOTD: laptop.

  • Jay

    0___o

  • Dominic C.

QotD: Fruit, so it ripens. Colts are a good choice and ripens well in paper bags, too.

  • binarycache

Too short! What's next? Show opens, the wine is already poured in the glass. You pick up the glass, sniff sniff, swish swish, spit spit. I'll give it 88 points $19-$24.00. You and a lot less of me, we're changing the wine world in less than 2 minutes a day.

Can't wait for the “Cliffs Notes” version of “Crush It.”

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTS MY THUNDER SHOOOOOOOOOOOOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • missatiejacket

nice. I like wine in brown paper bags. I'd like to see you do some double blinds on the show.

  • Yo, I dig the blind, paper bag testing, no BS. I think however, that it should be at least 2 wines.

    QOTD: Roasted peppers of course!!!!

  • srdonjulio

More brown paper bags (do try to recycle them though… the bags that is). QOTD: Doughnuts!!

  • Gary, that was way too short. I was hoping to see your skills with a few more wines in the blind. Looking forward to the next show!

  • nickgrzenda

Always dig the blind tastings! I think you should rock at least 2 wines if you're going to do this (unless the single one really brings interest, controversy or thunder). It was also a little shorter than I like.

    QOTD: Wine of course!

  • Like the others, I love when the brown paper bags are on the screen at the begining of the show. Love the zoom-zoom as well….soooo funny. LOVE the pace of this show.

QOTD: Usually my groceries; I'm not going to go with “hootch” (isn't that the official name of liquor once it's in a brown paper bag?)

  • bourgeoisbee

WAY TOO SHORT, but as you know we always dig(g) episodes that feature paper bags. I hope you return to a format that builds community and doesn't shorten our attention spans.

    QOTD: Cats.

  • Dan

Wow – some people are bitter about the two-minute posting – lighten up, people, there's plenty of garyvee to go around… I love the blind tastings. And with the volume of podcasts etc.. backing up on my iPod, I don't mind the quick hit either – especially in this “internet age”(!)

QOTD – Magazines or penny candy – depending on the size of the bag. Both make me feel like a million bucks carrying it home…
