Great episode.Have a great vacation. Banged out some shows for the week nice. Its your time scale Gary.

  • drew82

i prefer the head to head brown paper baggers as well. and my ideal thunder show is about 15 minutes, though i do enjoy the longer ones also.

  • DaveyJohnson

QOTD: Love the brown paper bags, but like others here, I like to see 2 or 3 wines in a show.

QOTD2: I like that i never know how long it is going to be, it should be how ever long you nee

  • Love the single brown bag theme and hats off to you Gary because you are really putting yourself on the line in this format and crushing it!! BTW GO DUKE!

  • laurieinvt

I personally loved the accidental ending! Happy and well-deserved vacation, Gary and Lizzy!

QOTD: I like the blind tastings. If all you have time for on any given day is 5 minutes, I'm happy with that. A 15 minute show on average is optimal, because you can pack a ton of content into that time frame. Guests need to take longer, and Sasha can take all day if he likes! Like I've said before when you've asked this- just keep mixing it up.

  • WineWoman

QOTD: I like the blind-tastings, but would like 2 wines–maybe of the same varietal, but at least 2 in case one falls short and is a true PAZZZZ… I think between 10-15 minutes is a good amount of time if you're flying solo. Thanks for squeezing in some of these onesy shows before your vacation. Hope you both are enjoying yourselves.

  • scottb5112002

5 minutes is great.Thx for the heads up sounds like a great wine!

  • Dan Richards

    Gary,

Just and FYI, Windgap is the brainchild of Pax Mahle, former owner and found of Pax Winery in Sonoma.

    Dan in Roseville CA

  • Love the blind shows but would also like to see at least two or more wines.

I think 10-12min is optimal for an everyday show but with guests we almost expect it to be more. But like some have already said, just keep it coming and keep mixing it up!

  • Hypersomnia

GV, hope you have a good vacation, I'm sure you and your wife really need it.

  • How dare you do something great and go on vacation! Haha, hope you have a good one!

QOTD: WLTV episodes? Ten Hours…. Eli Manning Hours. Or, you know, somewhere around Jeff Hostetler minutes.

  • O'Shea

QOTD: I would like to see at least 2 wines in each show…head to head death match. And anything under 20 min. is good for me.

    Enjoy that vacation!

  • Michael C in MKE

I like the short episodes. I also like the long episodes. The content should define the length. I trust your Judgement.

  • I like the short shows; 3 to 10 minutes.

  • I like the short shows; 3 to 10 minutes.

  • Monkeyron

You were on the Money on that one! I too would like to see you review 2 bottles to test your Skills with!
    Good show,
    Ron

  • Impressive! Nailed the rating, the location and the price!!!!!

QOTD: I love the format. Just try it without knowing anything about the variety. between 5 and 10 minutes works well for me.

  • what was the alcohol on that? was it on th edge of fruit bomb…palate still leaning that way?
Enjoy the vacation and your time together with Lizzie, I'm sure Misch is in very good hands…Sasha and Mom V? They probably sent you packing so they could have the grand girl to themselves.

QOTD: I think it is a great format to add to the repetoire
QOTD2: Back when you used to read comments on the show, and the time you read one of mine, it was in regard to my thinking you had nailed it with the combo of short guerilla episodes, 10 -15 minute nerd knowledge shows, and then one or two part in-depth episodes that weighed in at 30 – 60 min. You wanted credit for having nailed it back in the 400's somewhere. I say you are always evolving, and the new solo brown bagger is a welcome addition to the flow of content.
You can always let Mott do a dessert wine episode in your absence. KMurph…hook Mott up with some brown bags.

  • AboutBeverages

5 to 10 minutes is perfect unless you have a guest then it should go longer.

  • hokiepark

QOTD2: I'm liking the 5 – 10 minute episodes. I had stopped watching for a while because I just didn't have the time to download on iTunes, move it to my iPhone and then watch a 20 minute+ episode, added to the fact that you are pumping out so much content. Now that I rediscovered this over the weekend on my TiVo, these short ones are perfect.

  • John Rogers

I like the blind tasting but two or more wines would be great. They don't have to be the same type maybe a white then red. Around ten minutes would be enough time. I still like the occasional guest.

  • Cole

I would be happier with either 2 brownbags of the same variety or 1 where you know absolutely nothing about what is poured. In general I like the longer episodes and think of 10 minutes as a quickie. I usually watch in the evenings after work and enjoy the 20-30 min episodes. That being said everybody needs a vacation so I appreciate you putting these together before you left.

  • Pat__B

QOTD: I watch WLTV because I am not sure what to expect. The more you mix it up with formats, guests, etc. the better.

QOTD 2: Interviews can go as long as 30 minutes, blind tastings: 15-20 minutes, pretty standard tastings hit their sweet spot around 10 minutes in my mind.

  • KVM1985

Thanks for the HUNDREDS (approaching thousand!…) of shows! I personally love guests! Thanks again!

  • Oh ok, you're right, you need a va-ca! Have a good one and thank's for the episodes!

  • I totally agree Cole.

  • leni

I love the blind tasting episodes! Your skills are impressive! I like long and short episodes the same, however much time you think a subject needs is probably right on. Have a nice vacation!

  • QOTD: I like guest shows around 30 minutes – longer (usually in two parts) shows at 30 minutes EACH part. I like a typical “Gary only” show around 20-30.

The quickies time format that I like for me is 10 minutes.

  • Oh Gary and Lizzy, have a GREAT vaca!!!

  • ErieWineGuy

    You're not alone!

  • ErieWineGuy

    Agree with this!

  • castello

The Hulk never took vacations! Great show! We didn't know you had another(real)life.
    Wine world,,,,CHANGED!
    Thanks for everything.

  • castello

    That would be AAAAWWWWOOOOOOOOSOME!

  • BradVinNH

Hi there; I’m over in Merrimack (just south of Manch-Vegas).

  • ja, og har ett fett bredband 😀

  • Phil G

QOTD1 – I don't hate it, but i don't love it. Better if it was double blind and all you knew was red or white.

QOTD2 – I would say 15 minutes. That works well for me.

  • Kyle

15-25 mins for me…quick shows are better than no-shows, but I still like the longer format…

  • joelbombardier

    amazing.

    best episode yet.

  • MarcBelgium

QOTD1. I love the blind tastings, but just when it's a real blind tasting and with more than 1 wine. A quick show ca

  • MarcBelgium

……. (the rest) a quick show can be fun, but, it's like in love: a quicky can be fun but don't make it a standard because then it's no fun at all.
    QOTD2. 15 to 25 min.

  • robbiec

I like to get as much WLTV as I can. I think about 20 min. is usually sufficient, but I have no problem sitting down for an hour to watch a two part episode.
In your very early eposides you were doing 5 wines in about 10-12 minutes…that's just too rushed.
5 minutes is too short for any episode, but youre trying to get out of town to take some time off and I can respect that.
Thanks for the many hours of free entertainment!

  • YoungDave

QOTD 1.) I do love the brown bagged episodes… truly. Single blind is good, double-blind is better, but perhaps head-to-head single blind is best: when you know the varietal or region that all of the wines share, but you know nothing else about the wines. Some really interesting results can occur here, value-wise.

QOTD 2.) “Correct” or “Best” length? I don't know if such a thing exists. When there is an interesting guest, the content is there for 20 min (not 25 +). If there is a single brown bag episode, then you get it all in within 6 min. I guess the amount of quality content is the determinant of the proper length of the show, but I usually draw the line somewhere after 20 min for any one particular episode. Cheers.

    QOTD:

25-30 min. > Or as long as possibe!! 😀

Love to get cosy with a show, and taking a break in the day – and a 5 min. break, just isn't enough 😉

  • Phredd3

QOTD1: This format is OK, but I prefer multiple wines going head-to-head.

QOTD2: 15 minutes. Longer with a guest, although the epic two-parters get to be a bit much for me. 30 minute shows with Sasha rock it.

Good show.QOTD- Nice change of pace, but it will be nice to get back to some longer shows.

  • BruceS

So very glad to hear you're getting a vacation! Even high energy workaholics need to take a little time to recharge, and they're often the last to notice the need for a break. Here's hoping you and Lizzie enjoy every second of your time off. Or as King's Gunslinger would say, “long days and pleasant nights to ya!”

On format, there's something about a head to head show that feels more relaxed, while the one wine blitz has the sense of being rushed. As to time, somewhere between 10-20 minutes would be great, but the wines themselves will probably dictate the appropriate length.

  • Anonymous

sounds like a japanese game show.

  • BethR

I'm really feeling the short shows. I don't feel like I have time these days to sit down for a full length show very often, so it's nice to be able to watch regularly again. That being said, I think probably 10-15 minutes would be the best length for me; that'd allow for a little more depth, which is always nice.

  • Hi Gary,

What would you say are the main differences between New/ Old world wines…? I am a great fan of European wines, specially ones such as Brunello, Amarone, Nuits S. Georges… Do you really think in terms of calibre, that new world wines can match the tradition and establishment from the old world…? Thank you!
