line of the day – ‘a little truck driver armpit on the nose’

Crazy facial expression at 6.50. The wines stunk but that often makes a good show

Instead of your QOTD on the video, I'm going to go with your question on the BBoard. What U can do 4 me is get Bud Select 55 in cans into the Wine Library. Please tell me that I will be able to pick up my new favorite beer (in cans) along with my cases upon cases of wine, when I vist the store on almost a weekly basis now.

    Thanks GV

ohio. The time is right, and the temps have been good, but it’s been uncharacteristically dry the last few weeks. Hopefully a few will be around; if not I’ll try again after the next rain.

Sojourn Cellars is nice, but out of my general wine budget. I’m not down on pinots because there aren’t good ones available, but in the $50 range they aren’t on the top of my list.

  • ONUMello

I knew I forgot something! If you & Mott like Hawiian punch or Hi-C, you MUST try Tahitian Treat!!!

  • Anonymous

for $23 and your recommendation I’ll give it a whirl. If I don’t like it, I’ll re-cork it and send you the balance.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW, PINOT NOIR 'n' waynoooooooo

Had a GREAT time being in Gary's office for the GourLib taping last night. Saw the place where it all happens.
QOTD – Headed to South Jersey to check out the last two wineries in the State, finishing out my passport and get entered in the trip to France. Maybe hop across and check some one in PA too.

My sons are 2nd degree black belts in Tang Soo Do and I?m their chauffeur. On Saturday I?ll be at Grand Master Jon Chung Kim?s 32nd Annual 2010 Keystone State Invitational Championship (in Allentown) ? Tae Kwon Do ? Karate ? Tang Soo Do ? Kung Fu. I?ll be the parent in the ?MOTT ? Link It Up!? shirt. On Sunday I?ll be at a Tai Chi seminar. Parenthood is my life.

  • zrm

the labels certainly look a little classier. Which is good if they want to try to sell you double price yellow tail

  • laurieinvt

Enjoying the blind tasting shows- thanks!

QOTD: Nothing exciting. Work a bit in the perennial gardens, on the raised bed vegetable gardens, etc, etc- it's supposed to be raining and 40, but this is when I have some time. Beyond that, we'll play it by ear.

  • castello

Please, Please, don't drink that watered down swill!

  • daveTex

So much bad pinot out there. So sad.

I'm going to play in a hockey tournament, one for adults who are lousy hockey players. One of my duties is to bring the bubbly for mimosas after our saturday morning game… We are very serious.

  • Vinny

Good show. Inexpensive Pinot Noir, especially French, has to be the least rewarding category of wine drinking there is. For every 1 Bourgogne Rouge that is worth it's price, there is literally an ocean of swill to be waded through.

QOTD – not really sure, yet. Probably something awesome like skydiving or alligator wrestling or taking a nap.

  • mattgmann

Off to play a weeknight show….bleh….for free…..double bleh…. At least it's for a local charity. Maybe someone will be cool and buy me a drink after my set.

  • mikeyz

qotd: heading down to Charlotte, NC to spend time with good friends. cant wait! gonna miss the charlotte wine & food festival by 1 day 🙁

  • jason carey

Gary, most magazines critics would say an 85-86 point wine is a wine worth buying and drinking.. so what, is only 88 and higher drinkable for you?
I freq;uently drink those type wines for every day ..and a pinot at that price.. ?
I understand you say you don't really like it, but then shouldn't it be an 82 pt wine also?
85 should be considered a GOOD wine.

  • amsgpwarrior

I drink 85 point wines because usually its my first time drinking them. But at the price points that these two particular wines are at, I agree with Gary in thinking there are way too many other 89-90 point wines to be had rather than settling for 85-86 pointers. Just my thoughts.

Having a bunch of friends over this weekend for a new house warming party. Will be cracking open alot of Sojourn Cellars pinot's to celebrate!

  • QOTD; Play outside

  • LHP46

Given your dislike of both wines, just curious how you would compare them to the $6 Little Penguin Pinot Noir?

  • LHP46

Lupa. Gotta love the Mario. Had a wonderful lunch there, with a Dolcetto.

QOTD: What am I doing this weekend? I have got allergies from hell and California has had weird on/off rain and sunshine so a trip to the wine country is out of the question – bummer. But, as soon as I overcome these allergies and my schnoze is back in order and we've got descent weather I plan to check out the Pinot Noir at Rossler Cellars. Ever had any?

Goos show, Gary. Pinot is tricky. I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around all of the regions, but it will be a while..lol.

Not much going on here. I drank way too much wine the past 2 weekends and am going to take it easy. Maybe two bottles?

  • 6:45 to 6:52 is just possibly my favorite moment on WLTV. 🙂

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Have a little friendly get-together on Saturday afternoon. Watch Baseball and exercise the dogs. Oh, almost forgot–drink wine. Not sure yet of any selections but maybe something white or bubbly with a cheese-antipasto platter. Didn't have a chance to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary last weekend(Opening Day of Trout Season)was a Fishing Widow, plus the restaurant we had a gift certificate to, was destroyed by a fire.(Metuchen Inn)

  • liko sf

Keep it up K Murph (sp?)! Brown bag episodes are great.

QOTD: SFO>LIH>HNL>SFO. Hawaii bound baby! Much needed 10 day trip.

  • Cubatobaco

I think it's a good idea. It is confusing when you are standing in front of them. Its funny they mentioned the 2005 Shiraz Reserve as I saw the last one on the shelf and bought it after the rating came out. Fun little conversation piece.

  • downloading while we have dinner…

  • QOTD: It is supposed to be 70+ and sunshine in our always schizophrenic weathered Salt Lake City, so I am going to work…That doesn't sound right, but just the way it is 🙁

Question For Gary (QFG) – What do we need to do to allow Wine/Alcohol shipments into Utah???

  • Just Jack

Ditto that and add NV Ryan. I just want to know if there is something about NJ Law that prohibits it. If there is I will stop begging all the time. I don't know about Utah, but all the other companies ship here so I just don't get it.

  • Just Jack

I think GV has it backwards. He should be more excited when the wines suck. At least that's the way I look at it. Think about it. We as consumers get way way way more value from GV's advice when he pans a wine. It is only a small percentage of the time I can find the wines he loves (although I always try), it is much more valuable to me to find out if a wine is a pazzz so I can avoid it.

QOTD: The kid is heading to aunt Bab's house for the weekend so Sat is date night with the wife! Break out the cool whip, the Stilton cheese and the feather duster folks.

  • Just Jack

Lucky you liko. I love the islands. The air is so amazing. Have fun.

  • SourGrapesFC

Keep the blind tastings coming. How about a blind bubbles show?

qotd: plant some shrubs. hopefully drink some wine. maybe go bowling…

  • scottEJ

G, I'm sure it's the wines but, your palate seems on the new world side of things these days. Big goopy chards, fruit bombs, Aussie, etc. Any chance these two might fare better if you were into an old world swing?

QOTD: Volcanic cloud permitting, I'm off to Madrid for 3 days, then Granada for 3 days, then Barcelona for the final 3 days. Needless to say, I'm going to be consuming so much Spanish wine it's sick!! Ya Yenta.

Have a great week and look forward to watching next weeks episodes and posting.

QOTD: If any MN peeps are interested, at 10am on Saturday (Apr 17th) Mike White with the Iowa State University Extension Service is going to come up to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and host a free workshop on establishing a commercial vineyard. After that the vineyard manager and assistant manager, John Thull and Jenny Bradley, will be hosting a tour of the Horticulture and Research Center's vineyard and they will be explaining pruning, tying, and weed management.

Other than that celebrating a friend's birthday with some awesome Italian food.

  • Just Jack

Ditto that. Rice beer is deadly for the palate. Plus, if Budweiser calls it “the lightest beer in the world”, you know it is whiz water. It is time for an intervention.

Tflangan, I don't really know you buddy, but you need help man. Maybe you could step yourself up to real beer gradually. You know, start by throwing in a Sam Adams once every 4 or 5 beers. Before you know it you will be drinking Pliny the Elder IPA and life will be good. We are here for you.

  • A dumb Rhein king

What are you doing this weekend Mr V?

  • family time

  • better because LPP is so fake flavored but not much better!

  • too many wines score 88 and higher to go 85 for ones palate in my mind!

  • Randall

A Pliny Reference?!?! You must be from Nor-Cal or Philly… maybe Denver… I Know Vinnie does'nt “export” his off-the-hook beers to many places. Anytime anyone needs help w/ a beer intervention… just let me know.

  • interesting delay on the second swish…

  • finishing the Sancerre blanc before dinner tonight…more minerals than last night, fruit still very reserved, fusel almost petrol…
only every had one Sancerre rouge.
with the french wines, figure 25% – 40% of our cost is their street price, so neither of these wines are “expensive”?
QOTD: got a seminar to go to in Boston on Saturday, will maybe enjoy some fine sake, Sunday, back in VT, digging holes for vines, and cleaning up the crush pad getting ready for Chilean grapes in two weeks.

  • Not a big fan of Pinot but I did have the Terlato “Sanford Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills, 2007” last week that was the best to date.

BTW, I will be traveling from the peoples Republic of Massachusetts next week to do a job on Long Island and you know we will be making our first official visit to the Wine Library. Looking forward to checking out the cellar room.

QOTD: Yard work and then on Saturday sampling some “Sit on the Porch” whites for the website.

  • See, now the Stilton and the feather duster make perfect sence. But Dude, Cool Whip? At least you could spring for the real stuff.

  • What you really want is this. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1030/866670225_0

This will put lead in your shorts!

  • This was my first wine library tv episode, and I enjoyed it. Thanks!

  • Just Jack

Your absolutely right CB good catch. I don't have any heavy cream in the house so I guess she will have to settle for butter-cream frosting.

  • It's an aquired taste like Pate'. But once you start you can't stop.
