    any particular one/year NY Pete?

  • pawncop

Well, first know that I really enjoyed this entire series and hope you will continue it.

Second, you have nothing to be sorry about. This is about the journey and there are bumps along the way, and honestly when I get the chance to try some of these, I will have some knowledge to better appreciate the wines.

So please continue to provide the information in this fasion. You do well with it and it is appreciated.

QOTD – Have really tried lower end Malbac's and have enjoyed several. Pascual Toso and Dona Paulo are two that I have really enjoyed.

  • John_Kenneth_J

qotd: Cahors have been my fav, I did just buy a Trapiche from Argentina I hear is good, we'll see.

I get the feeling I've seen a lot of wines from Crios on the show lately.

  • Oakmon’s BF

Yeah, I like Chianti. Gary sometimes sounds like he?s dissin? it. He correctly makes the point that one shouldn?t ignore other quality affordable Italian reds. I enjoy Dolcetto and Barbera, but I enjoy Chianti too. I enjoyed an oaky glass of Gabbiano tonight.

  • gotsha

    Cheer up GV.

Gotta go with Achaval Ferrer. I'm one of the idiots who bought Crois based on the rating. Who knew?

  • jenna35

qotd- I enjoyed the Alamos or Norton Malbec…both in the QPR!

  • Allan

I love Randi in the city as well!!! ; ) i really do!! “Let's get it on…….”

    Well, meh show!
That's just, how the world goes round sometimes, Gary.

Happy about the couch-time, it's always the right frame of mind, for all of us!
Reflective,,,,,, Pommard this evening for me, an eye-opener for sure. Burgundy Rocks!!!!!

    Pinot, i mean, when it's done right, ( )!

And Mott Rules!!!!! Have a great weekend All Vayniacs!!!!!!! Wine-love!

  • theDude

I spotted my old buddy the “gray shirt” carelessly thrown over the back of the sofa. Come on man….you've got to give that shirt some love!!! If you're not going to wear it any more then frame it and hang it right under Patrick!! (personally I think you should start wearing it again cause I think you lost your mojo! You looked out of it dude!)

JM – 90 ; JV- 82 — why am I not suprised…! I have had so many instances where there were very significant “mismatches” between a JM score and basically… everyone else's opinion. Cannot be just different palettes. Not sure what's going on with JM, but he is steadily losing any remaining shred of credibility in my book. RP , it's time for change. Spain and Argentina are too important!

    QOTD – for 100% Malbec, probably 2004 Monteviejo Monteviejo ; for a bland – Poesia 2002

Qotd: everyday Malbec probably Casillero del Diablo.
    Not so everyday high-end Catena!!!

    ; )

    Thnx Gary & Mott!

I enjoyed the last three shows. Sometimes the wine just sucks. it makes you appreciate it more when it doesn't.

QOTD: My only Malbec so far (I haven't ventured much into Argentina or southwest France yet) was a 2006 Norton Reserva from Mendoza. I remember that it was a decent wine. Not the most amazing red I've had, but not bad.

  • Allan

    Mojo's the essence!!!!

  • theDude

QOTD: I'm finishing a bottle of '08 Pure Love Layer Cake malbec right now. Wish it tasted as good as it sounds!

  • Allan

All-time Malbec is Cheval Blanc '61,though only 1%! HeHEHEHEHEHaheheheh!

  • Allan

    I LOVE U!!!

    Have a great weekend!!! ; )

  • adrums

This week just goes to show that while there are many fantastic wines to be had for under 20 bones, MOST are just not worth our time…
(fwiw, Tanzer gave the Susana an 88, Molesworth (WS) an 87. Perhaps you were being somewhat harsh?)
QOTD: Achaval Ferrer – Finca Bella Vista 2007. Whoa, it's good.

  • Allan

“IIIIIIIIIIII, am a man, of constant sorrow……….”

  • Allan

    Agreed! Not Bad!

  • adrums

    A fuller perspective: JM- 90, ST – 88, JM of WS – 87, GV – 82.

  • Allan

    YEA!

Have a great weekend, mattgmann, nice Sax-playin!!!

  • Bredsun

QOTD: dont have a fav…not really into them

Maybe have someone new pic the wines…better luck next time?

  • tough show. I had a pretty bad malbec experience too this last week. had a cahors that was about $25, I think it had a good score too from some critic (90 WS maybe), but I thought it was pretty bad, for me about an 83 point wine. sorry, can't remember the name

  • stephenjohnbryde

yes the couch !!! love it !!
we have a drink on friday afternoon & it's a beautiful thing.

wer're you already drunk when filming this ?!
they way you tossed that first wine out it seemed so.

what is your favourite type of arg Malbec ?!

your office / filming room seems so crazy when your not at the desk. is it your office ?!
you should paint your wall with wine !! actuall wine. it would look soo cool !!
p.s. you should sport a beard it is the playoffs after all !!
question do you think the canucks will win ?! please say yes !!
question do you really read all of these there's heaps !!

  • guymandude

    Depressing wine display, oh well.

  • tooch

QOTD: Wish I could really pinpoint one, but my experience in that terrain is piss poor. Feel like with the increase in popularity of this varietal, a lot of boring juice has been flooding the market. I have one or two Cahors in my cellar that I'll have to dig out at some point soon i guess.

    Have a good weekend.

  • theDude

    “…MUCH pleasure here on earth I've found….”

  • Not a huge Malbec fan. I like them, but haven't had one that really blew me away. Suggestions welcomed.

Among those I've had, I like Ben Marco, and my favorite has probably been the Luca.

  • scottEJ

G, great concept, bad wines. What can you do. Maybe challenge KMurph a little and have brown bag some of her favorites to see where your two pallates stand? She seems to have a good sense to the juice.

QOTD: I've always liked Luca malbecs. Big boys in even bigger bottles.

  • amont

I like the brown bag shows – fav malbec, Catena 07 was good.

  • castello

    Top seventy!
You are one sorry sonofa.. ;). Again haven't had many Malbecs as I was afraid of the Argentinas for a while. I did like the 1050 on Cindy but many thought it was teriible.
Who is picking bad wines for our Boy? I have nights like that where I'll continue to open bottle after bottle till I find one that fits the mood. Often end up blending them together after the palate gives up.

  • First, I must say it makes me laugh when Mott zooms in on the brown bag. As if we think you could be lying or something.
Second, and I'm not trying to be a jerk but, are you getting to fussy? You drink quite a few high end wines. Is it starting to effect your $10.00 palette?

QOTD: Gascon Malbec is my favorite. I personally think it is a $12 wine that drinks like a $20. Not overly fruity or sweet, it is a nice balance of fruit and spice.

  • zrm

dont let the bags get you down gary. Brown bag showdowns are great!

QOD: dont have a fave. I can't really point to any one that stands out. I like malbecs hit or miss depending on the mood. BUT! i just bought one today and its going to be crazy Cent Visages 2006 Jean Francois Merieau 100% malbec Loire Valley 16 bones We'll see how it is

  • alienrelic

Gary, that was a bit weird. You moved the couch, man! One of the cool things about laid back Friday was the window setup behind you. It's nice to check out the Jersey weather while you are doing a show. Yeah, I know it's geeky. But you do have the best backdrop in TV there. This was just a couch in a warehouse.
And then you saved it all with the improvised table malfunction. And Mott's camera work was inspired.
    Hang in there…..

QOTD: It's been a while for Malbec, but my minimal notes say Zuccardi ? Serie A

  • johnfarrin

Really don't have any experience with upper tier malbecs. Favorite of the under $10 crowd is Alamos.

  • I like the Layer Cake. A bit jammy, but it actually goes well with spicy pasta's and stews.

  • johnfarrin

Thanks Pawncop, you reminded me of Pascual Toso which I also enjoyed.

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    LOLOLOL

    OH MY!!!!!!!!
Was that for me?! I just finished commenting that I havent been around..and that you didnt notice! Could it be you noticed?! (Or is this for Randi Someone Else?)
Im taking it as if it were mine! And I LOVE YOU TOO! XOXOXXO

QOTD: The BEST malbec was Luca Malbec Nico .. i think 2004!

Thanks for the love Gary..that was special (how embarrassing if that wasnt meant for me)
    XOXOX

  • DaveyJohnson

    start drinking better wines!

A recent Malbec that I really enjoyes was actually a CA Malbec. The 2007 Lucas & Lewellen Valley View Malbec

  • DCaragher

GV – Tough week, but on the upside the brown bag format is rippin'! No worries!

QOTD: Best Malbec…Cantena Malbec is always good, the one for about $20! Have a good weekend!

    CHECK OUT CORK'D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DO IT!

  • theDude

Ya, I think it's too much of a “fruit bomb” as GV likes to say. But
it's not terrible. I'd give it an 86.

  • You da man! Thank you for going over to the Laid Back Couch on this Friday. Horrid, busy week so I enjoyed it. Also, short and sweet.

Sorry the wines were not up to your liking this week but no need to apologize. You can't control what's behind door number 1 or shall we say, bag #1 or 2!

QOTD: From one of your previous shows, I really, really like this Malbec. Smooth as silk, complex and something quite special.

    http://winelibrary.com/wines/30810-2003+Montevi

Cheers and have a great weekend!

  • Randall

“…but I may die UPON this train!!”

  • plcb

    QOTD: Septima Malbec

I'm not a big malbec fan because I prefer lighter styles.

  • Maybe brown bags should come when a host is present, it might be a more intense show and maybe, just maybe, the wines are less suck-y.

QOTD: Still haven't found a “favorite” Malbec yet, although, last week we tried a Las Moras Malbec 2009 and it wasn't all that bad.

  • DanLacher

The blinds are not going well this week. Can't wait to get some shipments in that have been ordered from “Cindy”.

Let's bring the thunder this next week, these three shows were a bit down… but then it happens.

    Have a great weekend all.

What are you drinking this weekeing.

  • I'm betting it was you. 🙂

  • Bill

Why would you apologize that the brown bag wines sucked?
