Moooooochooooooo Thanx, Ray, YOU da MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN !!!!!!!!!!!! :O)

Northern suburbs of MN. I couldn’t get a hold of Marquette last year, but this year is looking better. There are 6 Marquettes growing in my backyard and I should be able to get at least a half gallon to a gallon from them this year, plus I have more resources for pick your own at local vineyards.

You must be in the Vermont area. I almost bought some vines from Lincoln, but they didn’t have what I wanted at the time. That sounds interesting, I’ve never had a maderized wine before.

Most of the cold climate grapes are lacking in the tannin aspect, but not in the inkiness. Whenever I do a larger tasting of Swenson or UofMN varieties my lips and teeth are still a little purple the next day. I had a Petite Pearl varietal at the cold climate conference this year that had a good tannin structure and a flavor profile of cassis and dark berries. The wine maker, Dell, said that he added nothing to the wine. I trust that he didn’t because he’s an honest guy. Check that varietal out as it becomes available in the coming years.

I have to admit, I’ve never seen that show, I was told that it would be something that I would like, so I’ve avoided it.

Not that I want to be all like (GV air quote) I said that before them (end GV air quote) :P, but I got the habit while working in the printing industry after college. … that and a lack of a social filter.

Thanks for the encouragement! I knew this year would be a good lesson in what not to do, so I’m not too bummed. The only thing that sucks is that so many peeps want to try the end product. I can’t wait for next year. I’m going to go for a more experimental route and do several gallon batches of the same varietal with different techniques.

  • Hey Gary

Good to see you getting amongst the Beaujolais; definitely an under-rated wine.

QOTD: Biggest disappointment? It was a pretty awesome weekend. Rugby trip to the Cebu in the Philippines – won a trophy, had a massive night out, went snorkelling, seafood lunch, relaxed by the pool – basically perfect. If I had to try and find one I'd say I missed my girlfriend, but apart from that it was pretty awesome.

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • ONUMello

Interesting last wine, and that there's still a link showing 7 btls for sale now that it's pulled.
I agree these are underrated- I had the 2008 Domaine du Vissoux / Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais a couple weeks back, not cru but definitely not neuveau and it was solid with strawberries all over.
QOTD: Probably going to a hyped restaurant, waiting in line for 45+ minutes and it being solid but not stellar.

  • mattgmann

QOTD: A storm knocked the power out for a good chunk of Saturday, causing my kitchen backsplash to remain untiled for another week.

On a positive note, Chateau Pesquie Terrasses 2008 Cotes du Ventoux. Flipping delicious. Light and floral with some nice earthy undertones. The “stink” factor turned off my cheap-cab drinking friends which left the the bottle to myself. Having friends with bad taste isn't always such a bad thing.

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!

I have the Sniffy Sniff wristband..yay!! Its yellow for Spring! LOL
I knew you were going to pronounce the wine dead, btw.

QOTD: I was STILL sick this weekend! I thought I would be over it by Saturday, but my still had some fever, still felt bad 🙁 Much better now tho!!! YAY! LOL

    Still a great show Gary!
I love that you had a dead wine! Its important to show that..Ive had ppl share cellared wine w/me that they were so proud of, only to find out that the wine had PAST its time..It happens!!
    🙂
    xo

  • johnfarrin

I'm insulted that you asked me if I have the sniffy-sniff wristband 🙂

QOTD: That my first bottle of Sierra Carche was one of the bad ones. I love all of the varietals involved. I loved the idea the I had STOLEN a 96 pt rated wine for $30. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

  • Only had one so no real decisions about the Cru…

    QOTD (side): Nope

QOTD: One of the best weekends ever. I would have to think long and hard about it to come up with anything and there's really no need for that.

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • Ahhh too bad about the wines. It's hit or miss with pretty much any wines or anything in life for that matter. I like the Beaujolais.

QOTD: Hmmm, probably the weather was my biggest disappointment. Saturday was spectacular for me attending a cooking demo. I had some amazing Alsatian wines by Joseph Pfister. Also, have you tried a Chenin Blanc from SA called Kanu?

    Cheers!

P.S. GO CAPS! Sorry about the Devils 🙁

  • castello

Are they cheap people that love cab or people that love cheap cab? 😉

  • NY Pete

where's the new dad KAHUNA's shout out?

  • jenna35

qotd-my weekend with my fiance got cut short and we only see eachother Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

  • castello

Are you gonna let G dis your Giants like that?

  • NY Pete

hey Mott, I have a password from a Cali pinot producer to get on his site…
he himself picked it out …
    are you curious?

  • NY Pete

will stop saying you're sorry? … jerk

  • NY Pete

do u really want an answer to that QOTD?
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • corkscrew

Can't say I have tried any of these wines…but then again I would seek out a Beaujolas as much as I would seek out Bojangles, I plant florals would rather drink fruit but not sour fruit…Gary how about some USA wrestlers…. QOTD-rain on Sunday. http://www.winelx.com

  • jaybloxham

Sorry to here about the wine. I really want to get into Beaujolais.
QOTD: I went to a wine tasting with my wife, then went out for a good dinner of ribs and pulled pork at KC's Smoke Shack in Manchester NH. If you haven't been anyone close has to go.

  • castello

I think you should open another of the second wine. Maybe it was an off bottle. Josh wouldn't rate it 90 for nothin. I think corks are doing more damage than good, too much bottle variation. I had a Sansonnet this weekend that was meh. Trying it again now. Still meh, maybe a little TCA, not sure but very dissapointing.

  • MarkFitzpatrick

biggest disappointment of weekend – Capitals lost and played like dog-doo.

YES on the ole Sniffy-Sniff wristband and THANKS for the Iron Sheik-Nikolai Volkoff combo

Oh Gary – BTW – Nikolai Volkoff lives like 45 minutes from me – a little bit outside Baltimore. At least last time I heard – and someone saw him. And if you get the Sheik on, just tell him “Randy Savage says he'll kick your ass.” Well, that is if you want him to go off.

  • xxxxx

don't cut out the air quotes!!!

  • jaybloxham
  • QOTD: Red Wings failed to finish the series at home UGGHHHH!

  • Nice to see the light on Cru-Boo, but sad that you had two bummers…

QOTD: Not being able to get the camera setup in time for sunrise at Michaud Vineyard on Sun AM

  • drt999

Not thrilled by Gamay — I'd rather go for Lemberger (under whatever name) or even (when I can find them) Valdiguie or unoaked Chambourcin when I'm thinking of this type of red wine.

QOTD 1 — I think I have the yellow wristband

QOTD 2 — well, Friday wasn't quite the weekend, but I learned my program coordinator, a really great person and scholar, has taken a job in Illinois for the fall

  • Monica

I have had Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages a few times and it is pretty good. I guess I'll have to search out a Cru Beaujolais.

Gary–Do you listen to Howard Stern on Sirius? He has the Iron Sheik on his show occasionally, and it always cracks me up.

Biggest disappointment of the weekend–Had a great date with a guy Friday night and havent heard anything from him yet. 🙁

  • Thursday

    :rain, rain, go away…

I've not gotten into the Beaus, but along the same line I have had the Les Cretes Torrette a couple of times…. nice wine… I think it's Petit Rouge though… not Gamay

  • Great show. If it makes you feel any better; I once had a boss that handed out 5 year old Georges Duboeuf beaujolais nouveau as Christmas presents. I called it the sommelier's lump of coal.

SideQOTD: Not yet but I'm working on it.

QOTD: No disappointments this weekend. But last weekend I took 9 people to the Ritz-Carlton in Boston for a meal that Suck-suck suck suck-sucked. We would have had better service at McDonalds. Now that is a disappointment.

  • slave2thevine

QOTD: Having difficulty getting all the dirty dishes done in less than three loads from ONE meal.

  • I agree. Gary, keep doing the air quotes!!!

  • srdonjulio

QOTD: didn't happen on the weekend but it rolled over into it: Denver picking Tebow!! UGH
Now I'll really be rooting for the Raidahs!

  • Tim
