Another classic episode.

GV went into his shell a bit when Kermit said he thought some critics go way over the top with their descriptions such as ‘tastes like lime, but specifically the lime rind, not the rest of the lime’. As we know that’s exactly the way GV tastes! But great to get a different and equally valid take on the whole tasting process. I like them both

I so agree with you. Seriously, you should pitch this to Kermit and A&E or Food Network or a variety of PBS channels.

  • SamKw

    Is this a WLTV first? A 3 part? Let's shoot for 4!

  • I'm really happy about it, is that bad?

  • fan freakin tastic.

  • KL QOTE: In the moment the smell enhances the feelning for the wine, the taste is the essence and what you really grade for the value of the experience

  • philoxera

I'm glad somebody has come clean on oak and alcohol.

  • Just Jack

Making history with a three parter. I love it. I think it would make the greatest reality show of all time to follow Kermit around as he scours France for his next account.

  • Wineink

charisma, charm, history, knowledge no one outwheighing the other. Awesome show give me more.

  • Maurice O Mahony

Yet again, superb. I know we are only into ep 2 of 3 but I am calling it. This is my favourite episode of all time. I love it. Kermit Lynch is so interesting. Understated and incredibly brilliant. I really, really love this episode. Cant wait for part 3. The wines are incredible. I love his take on wine descriptions, oak and alcohol levels too. The dialogue is great between you two.

Super stuff GV. I will watch this 3 part over and over. Awesome.

  • MarkFitzpatrick

    A 3-Parter…..Great stuff Gary.

  • ironmics

It really doesn't take that much sulfur to stop malo. It only takes as much as normal spoilage control. As long as you keep on it, and don't add too much, it's almost never detectable and barely changes the aromas. I have a feeling, a lot of wineries slack off and over add though.

  • castello

It's not bad. It is very good!

  • castello

I haven't seen his name on many wines lately here on the left coast. I may have to go to Berzerkly!
Great job Gary! Still a few interuptions buttttttt I guess it would be a 5 parter without them.

  • laurieinvt

This is so cool! I could do with a weeks' worth of Kermit Lynch! I have got to read his books. Can't wait for part 3!

  • Jay

His laid-back California demeanor stood no chance against Gary's aggressive New Jersey barrage of interruptions. Frustrating, but still a neat show.

  • This is such a pleasure and to continue my 24 reference, I love that we will get the 25th hour, i.e. “part 3”. He certainly would be added to my “people to have at a dinner party” even if he didn't bring the wine. But I would hope he did…

    see you tomorrow

This is awesome. I was just in Kermit's Berkeley store last week buying up the place. I am right in the midst of studying for my level 1 somm cert, so this is perfect. Love the education, love the fact that he is local for me, and will have some good ideas for when I go back to his store this week. Thanks Gary!!!

  • Great show GV! I always knew Lynch was a legend but your show put a very personable light on him. His view on wines are fantastic. So often wine noobs such as myself get intimidated by these over the top description of aromas and flavors (you with-standing of course) but Kermit breaks it down so simply and elegantly. The information he provided on fermentation was brilliant! Your show continues to change the wine world and I very much enjoy the ride. Keep it up!

  • jimkay

Great show, great guest. I don't think I've been as excited about a new episode as much as I have for his one.

  • dancaragher

    GV – YES! A dream come true…a first ever three-parter! Can't wait!

YEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW, Part Deux in daaa HOOOOOOUUUUUSE !!!!!!!!!!!
    :O)

  • johnyhamm

I'm really really really enjoying this interview.

I have a QOTD…What do you think about Kermit's way of tasting? ie. not describing a wine by describing what it 'tastes like' or 'smells like', but more just focusing on balance or how the flavor/aroma affect you.

I personally like his thoughts on this. As a relatively new wine geek I know that I will try to think about wine this way and not try to pick out individual flavors/aromas.

    Can't wait for part III

Berzerkly was CRAAAAAAAZZZZZY when i was there in '69, i can imagine what it's
    like Noooooooooooooooooow………….

  • Mike

I love this. You guys are great together. I just read Kermit's book the other week. Definitely worth picking up. He should write another one, though; his first book is twenty-five years old.

  • Really looking forward to part three…

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I'm going to have to pop some popcorn when I get home and watch this episode. I've been looking forward to this all day!

Not at all, there are a few among us who shun the top ten, but they
desire it as much as any man or woman.

Sent directly from my brain to your computer/cellular device.

G.V.- best interview to date man…this is stellar! I love how down to earth Mr. Lynch is, and how folksy/charming he is in this interview. It's fascinating to me how humble he is; no pretense at all.
You'd never know that this is one of THE biggest names in the wine game…ever! Bring on part three. Thanks for this AMAZING content! Best, Mike

  • Seems like a good guy, loved his comments on CA wines, pretty spot on.

  • tooch

Classic series of episodes….hopefully this is a 15 part series.

  • Jonathan Nossiter’s book “Liquid Memory” has an interesting passage about a meeting he had with colleagues, in an attempt to talk about wine without the time worn descriptors.
Almost done with the book, and if you liked “Mondovino” it will complete your experience.

  • NYP stamp of approval!
