I expected the worst when i found out that the guest was a commenter on the show…but it turned out that there was a great chemistry between him and GV so it worked pretty well.

Yo Bro, i think if i got on da Show, i'd probably put everybody
    ta Sleeeeeeep………. :O)

  • That’s what I thought until I had their old vines gsm 2006. It’s probably hard to find unless you’re in Ontario but it was very Cotes du Rhone in its nuance (stems in the fermentation?) but with the Aussie sunshine. Very drinkable!

  • Glen

Great job. You were a natural!

    Shaggy “Bombastic” episode.
Again with the Addams Family “Thing” hand Gary.

QOTD: I usually don't drink “big” wines. But I did enjoy Glen's presence on the show. Excellent guest!

  • Capt_M

A note for Chris Mott: You have been watching Build it Bigger? Did you watch the episode on the Panama Canal? I'm in it. Let me know if you saw me.

  • qotd: big kick ass reds: Martinelli Sagrantino di Montefalco 2003: black as night yet so balanced
quilceda creek reds: their entry level columbia valley red for $35-45 = serious thunder from Washington. Of course I'm sure you've had your fair share of Amarone. Try the Tommasi 06 Valpolicella ripasso if you don't want to break the bank. Thanks for the qotd, I'll learn from the comments. Way to keep it real too, winecrazy.

QOTD: I haven't had too many expensive (or inexpensive) bombastic wines. However recently I did have the opportunity to taste Two Hands Ares Shiraz. I enjoyed it so maybe I like big wines and don't know it.

  • winecrazy

Try Gamba Zin or Loring Pinot……decany the zin and your'll love it.

  • winecrazy

    Thanks so much!!!!!!!

  • winecrazy

    Thanks Liko sf……!!!!!!!!!!

  • winecrazy

    Thanks Dan….. !!!!!!!

    See you soon

  • winecrazy

    Thanks Allan!!!!!!!

  • winecrazy

WOW…… More than “The Great One” huh………cool.

Maybe they will nickname me “The Grape One”….??? >>> LOL <<<

  • winecrazy

    Thanks will do that

  • winecrazy

Yes, I'm on the mailing list. Good stuff. I think gary has a couple in the store. You have to keep those locked up though

  • winecrazy

I could live with that!!!!!!! lol

    That would be a record…. 🙂 Awesome!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the reco! I tried finding it around town here, but didn’t see it 🙁 The biggest issues is that in smaller towns I don’t see many options, and if I ask the wine shop, they point me to a wine that my grad student salary can’t afford. I’ll probably come back to this comment thread in a couple of years when I can start spending more than $20 on a wine bottle 🙂

  • I thought it would be your style. That one bottle got me distracted and off the sophisticated bordeaux… and obsessed with the big CA berry hunt.

I am not that much into massive wines so I am probably of no value on suggestions. I have enjoyed some big Austalian wines such as Molly Dooker and some big syrahs from Paso Robles. I am more into wines from Europe and cooler locations in the US. It was good to see a passionate Vayniac on the show.

  • plcb

Thanks! I love a hearty Zin especially with BBQ. Also I stare longingly at Loring Pinot Noir everyday I'm at work. We have about 6 vineyards of Loring in “my” store. I believe I was in their tasting room many moons ago. Forty bucks is a stretch on my plcb clerk pay check.

  • winecrazy

Those wines are the ones so you should try and find more of them from those areas. If I was as passionate about wine as Gary is I'd be broke….lol

  • winecrazy

If you ever see Brian tell him I said hi and that I was on the show. Mabye he'll leave a comment. He's a great guy.

  • I've really trended away from the big, in your face wines recently, but two that I used to really enjoy was the Barrel 27 Head Honcho Syrah and the Mollydooker Boxer Shiraz.

Really enjoyed the show…it's nice when Gary actually lets' the guest do some talking 🙂

  • Funny – I didn't read any of the comments before I posted….looks like we are both on the same page as far as recommendations.

  • plcb

Doh! I checked and it's Longoria that has the tasting room in Los Olivos.

I emailed with Brian after he was on WLTV and then I displayed his shelf talkers in the store. They helped.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but the Valderiz 2003 Ribera del Duero (was in Secret Pack B last December) is pretty massive. Not exactly juicy and delicious though–lots of blackberry pie flavor, full bodied, creamy, but balanced out by black, tarry, leathery flavors. Pretty much like drinking evil spirits. But I loved it. And it's only $25.

  • Dude!! AWESOME!! Sorry I missed you when I was back there a few months ago. I PROMISE we'll connect next time and do some SERIOUS damage!!

All you need to know for big wine is two words : EL NIDO!!

  • JiminAtlanta

I am lucky that a friend's father lives near Paso Robles and has good reds shipped to here. She likes big red wines and spends more than I normally do. She gave me a Beckmen Grenache yesterday and said it was excellent. Have you had anything from Beckman?

  • Hey Guys
I put Downie Doole in because their a small McLaren Vale producer who make some good, rich wines at good prices. I tend to prefer McLaren Vale Shiraz over Barossa. Some more producers from that part of the world worth checking out would be Kay Brothers, Wirra Wirra, Noon, Olivers Taranga, Penny’s Hill, Paxton and of course d’Arenberg. Though thinking about it the ‘biggest’ table wines from Australia would have to be Rutherglen Durif – those guys are monsters.
    Cheers
    Andrew

  • winecrazy

I know… Thanks. Hope to see you soon.

  • winecrazy

I'll give it a try Thanks

  • winecrazy

lol…ok thanks. I'll lok out for that head honcho

  • winecrazy

    No but I love Grenache

  • joakimhirschberg

Really cool guy hustlin for the bombastic wines! Nice done!

QOTD: ch neuf de pape, barolo, cali & oz shiraz, amarone

  • winecrazy

Oh Brian……when you do come back here make sure you call me….Also I just got that 3 pack from you. What other wine of yours do you suggest for me form this vintage. I stoll have Lorings from last year I haven't drank because they were so good.

  • robrx

Great Jersey guy! Love the T-Vine! I was set on T-Vine by a great guy in Napa about 5 years ago. It used to be like $25…

QOTD Big Juicy wines– Biale Zinfandels ezpecially Black Chicken and Aldo's Vineyards. Also, a great family and sales team. Get on the list as even Gary rarely has their wines. Tell Jayme from sales that Rob #1 from Jersey sent you!

  • Bill_Murray

Good show – Liked Glen representing his personal taste even though he knew GV doesnt like the big delicious fruit style.

QOTD: Mollydooker anything. Im sure you have them Glen, but if you havent i would recommend Blue Eyed Boy (~$45) or definitely the Boxer (~$20). If you want to go for the glory, give Carnival of Love a shot (~$90). MollyD's style is so juicy its unreal – although sometimes ts hard to pound through a bottle in one sitting (high alc content too). I bet they would make a perfect backbone for some killer sangria…..

  • Thanks for the nice comments 🙂 Since you like 'em BIG, the 2008s for you are Russell Family, Aubaine, and Rancho La Vina. I know Garys' used to be your fav, and the 2008 is one of the biggest in recent years and could be back in your wheel house again – but the 3 above are guaranteed to be Glen Juice!!

  • rieslingrich

    Get Paso Robles wines, California

  • waynooo daaa wino

    WINECRAZY RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • teckdeck2008

I like your style dude. Keeping it honest with liking the fruit bombs…no shame in that.

Qotd: Well this are more on the inexpensive side than you probably drink, but I get good deals on them and I have tried them a lot since I work at a wine bar that serves them. I would say the 2007 Ass Kisser Shiraz and the 2007 Jam Cabernet Sauvignon. Links for them are here: http://tinyurl.com/22pbbra and here: http://tinyurl.com/2c77vl8. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

  • Great show. I liked the selection of wines, very interesting.

QOTD – I like the 2008 “The Prisoner” by Orin Siwft and Trentadue Winery 2004 La Storia Alexander Valley Petite Sirah both very big, at least for my palate. Have you had either of those Glen?

  • winecrazy

Thanks!!!! I had the prisoner but I wil try that petite syrah for sure.

  • winecrazy

Thanks a lot….I will definately have to try those for sure!!!!!!!! Thaks for LINKING IT UP!

  • winecrazy

    THANKS WAAAAAAAAAAAYNO!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUUUUUUU”RE DA BEEEEEEEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • winecrazy

    Got'em!!!!

  • winecrazy

Thanks Bill!!!!! I have a couple carnivals I'm waiting to drink. Had a few Molly's before though. But you are right…….you need to take your time drinking them…lol

  • winecrazy

I love the black chicken…….I was out in Napa and went to Biale since I'm on the mailing list for years now and the black chicken was already sold out. But I found case somewhere and picked it up. Thanks!!!!!!! Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm here at my shore house and had one last night infact. It was great!!!

  • winecrazy

    Thanks !!!!!!!!
