I expected the worst when i found out that the guest was a commenter on the show…but it turned out that there was a great chemistry between him and GV so it worked pretty well.

I love the show, but I don't usually comment because, well… I don't really drink wine all that much. I find the show is interesting, especially the nerdy bits about producers and varietals, but I don't really like wine that much.

  • LindseyN

Glen you seem like such a great guy. You've literally commented on everyone's comment for today's show and that alone tells me what a nice guy you are. Awesome show today guys!!!

QOTD: I've had a couple over the toppers in the past but I really can't remember the names. The other night I had the 2008 Notro Sangiovese and it was a challenge. I had to let it decant for like 45 mins before it was drinkable but you could probably drink it right away. I loved the 07.

  • RANDINTHECITY

OH! PS, I dont think I'll make it 7/10..BUT..would love to meet all in the city afterward!
    Will need the 411

Nice show! Can't judge a book by it's cover, I guess. I would have seen Glen on the Jersey shore and would not have guessed he's a big wine drinker.

QOTD – Had a Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages a couple months back and it was fabulously over the top with a steak.

Loved Gary's question on what is your favorite wine. That's a tough one, but when I think about my favorite wines, it's always in the context of where I was and what I was doing. My wife and I were sitting in our backyard last summer, after working in the yard, and it was a gorgeous night. Broke open a bottle of 1994 Petite Sirah from Stags' Leap Winery that we brought back from the winery and it was heaven! Hadn't had a lot of experience with an older, well balanced, raisin-y wines, but it blew us away. I think the company, the day and the environment also made it memorable.

QOD — recently . . . you might like the 2006 Château Julien La Conviviance, unless that's too tame for you!

  • beardedmystery

QOTD: lately I've had a Marquis Phillips Sara Blend 08 that was big and bombastic but not too fake either and I rather liked it. Another was Four Vine's Biker, not so much of a food wine in my opinion but it was great for hanging out and talking with old friends.

  • RANDINTHECITY

    LOL

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Glen, my hat is off to you, brother! It was an awesome episode! Thanks for making Gary open some wines I've never heard of either. I'm on a hunt now. And who doesn't love Randi? = )

I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys on July 10th!

QOTD – I have never really had any wines that were really over the top fruity, but know of one that I want to try. Its Grail of Lisa 08. It come in a 3pk. If you wind it Glen, let me know. I think its like $60/bottle. As far as nose, I'd have to say 06 Ch. Haut Bages Liberal is as fruit-bomb as it gets. I don't even want to drink the wine!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I'll stay in touch. There's no way that I'm coming that far and not meeting you. = P

  • RANDINTHECITY

Sweet… TY. Love ya too. 😉

  • passion4wine

An inexpensive big wine that I just found, since I love the big flavor as well is from Pacific Breeze called Killer Cab. I am American but recently moved to BC Canada where the wine from the States is very limited and expensive. In trying to find a decent BC wine, we found this Winery in New Westminster BC, only to find out the grapes come from California… it is good though!!

  • vino rosso

Because you're a cigar smoker I decided not be a lurker and leave a response to your question.

QOTD: Blue Eyed Boy. It is crazy huge.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Gary, I'll be there for sure, bro!

  • Jay

Sorry Bruce, the biggest reach out of the glass and slap you around monster vino I ever drank came out of Amador Co. in the early to mid '80s. Those Zins were legends.

  • Yea, like out of control huge. This was my AOTD for WCs QOTD haha. Can't imagine anything getting much bigger than this other than 'Dook's Velvet Glove.

  • Good for you Glen for making Gary spend his dollars. He's been a cheap date lately with guests/dates. 😉

Um Beringer White Merlot? (yeah I'm going to hell for that one) 😛

  • Isn’t Penfold’s Grange over $400 a bottle retail? I saw it on a menu in a Palo Alto restaurant for over $800.. Yikes.

  • RANDINTHECITY

Where are you coming from Ray?

  • adrums

    Fun times.
    QOTD: Shirvington 2002 Shiraz. Whoa.

  • Just Jack

Rand you could have a nice little side business going. Of course the feds would be on you in no time but how great a story would it be to tell all your city friends. You would say “I was arrested once” and they would all look over the top of their chardonnay in amazement and breathlessly ask “For what?”. Can you imagine the look on their faces when you tell them bootlegging?
