Pretty average episode apart from a great quote of the day; ‘Mott is a huge pot smoker!’

  • Ha! I didn't even set out to give it to him – it is just the way we are. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Pretty good split there – and I agree, Gary's father steals the show.

    Zinfandel? Brave. Very brave.

    QOTD 1: 50/50 maybe.
QOTD 2: Aged Riesling dessertwines. For special events and for fixing the pallet.

  • Don't listen to the haters, guests are cool! As long as they provide some enjoyable content like these last two.

Mott, you are the man, next time I come to WL for some wine, I'll drop you off some Montecristos. Thanks for all both you and Gary do, really tremendous, I am lucky to have found the show!

Cool guest. QOTD: I usually gravitate to more “terroir” driven, elegant wines, but every once in a while, you gotta pull out the big, fruit bomby, Cali Cab. They are just too delicious every now and then, but like you always say, “They're chocolate cake.”

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day to everyone!

  • orangebottle

you can tell this is a Friday show. You are picking on Matt. 'a pot smoker' Mott was funny. sorry Mott. Great show. you should have guests like these all the time.
QOD: something dark, juicy and fruity like winecrazy will drink.

  • I don't buy dessert wines as a rule – however I do enjoy them on vacation, trips and winery tours. Maybe I'll add one to my collection thanks to you. And thanks for the comment!

  • Crazy respect for KMurph! Always the best!

  • Glad you enjoyed the show and that I wasn't a total bore!

I too like to bring out the fruit bombs on occasion. Usually with a dish that needs some though. Oh, and you too!

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!
    Colin!!

QOTD: Muscat d'asti <- I just like it sometimes after dinner..a family tradition thing…

Gary, thank you for not asking Colin if he loved me…LOL .. was afraid you might starting asking everyone…and they would all say no..and it would all get too depressing. LOL

  • Such a fun episode!
QOTD: Something with a lot of heat.

  • Good choice.

  • HEAT! I'm with you there. I didn't realize it until after the show but 20% was high enough to make me hang out with Gary for a few minutes before driving home.

  • Allan

    You're Toooooooooo Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!! 🙂

When you are cigar smoker like me (2-3 a month), port and other fortified wines become your best friend, because most wines cannot hold up to a cigar. Some can though, like Mollydookers and huge Petite Sirah's. I smoke cigars from Pepin Garcia, Tatuaje, and Padilla, most are all from Nicaragua. Cubans are waaayyyy overrated, and they have lost their quality over the years, and many suffer from plugs in the cigars (Definitely something you don't want in a $15-$30 cuban cigar).
QOTD: I keep Madeira around for me and my friends when we get together to shoot the shit and smoke cigars.

    huh?

  • That’s true. Maybe Gary knew about your expensive tastes and said “Book him Friday! Friday, I said or I will never buy the Jets!” ( ;-P )

  • Great show guys…good to see C Devroe in the laid back couch!

QOTD: Sherry and/ or late harvest Riesling.

  • QOTD: im usually a beer, red wine, and jack D drinker, but on occasion i just need to switch it up and have been gravitating to 3 olives vodka. Usually flavored vodkas are garbage and leave you with a terrible hangover, not this delicious stuff. So far ive tried pomogrante + OJ, rootbeer + rootbeer( duh!), and black cherry + dr. pepper. They're all fantastic, and damn cheap!

  • drt999

QOTD — any fortified dessert wine
mini qotd — Mott adds a lot, but it's still GV's show, so 80/20 G/M split

  • Good to see brandon M in the mix!

  • RANDINTHECITY

    Thnx Colin!

  • RANDINTHECITY

    Thank you Allan!! <3

  • Hi Gary,
Got a bottle of 1991 Dow's in my cellar. Might be time to pop the cork. Question to you. What do you like to eat when drinking port?

QOTD: Sauternes. Sometimes when you have a really good sweet desert it just makes it even better.

  • Allan

Lookin' forward to some brown bags next week 🙂

  • wineformyfriends

Dear Friends, come on check my blog and give me your honest opinion: http://wineformyfriends.wordpress.com/

    QOTD – Ice Wine.

  • wineformyfriends

To drink port use something sweet. Deserts, chocolats, cake and things like that.
An advise of a portuguese wine friend- the land of port.

  • PearlGirlWhirl

I like 75% guests & 25% solo, and I'm not tired of the guests yet because they are so very informative, thank you!

    QOTD: South African Apricot Brandy

    whatever happend to mattgmann?

  • pian0_player

qotd: I think all dessert wines are occasional for me. I love vintage port and sauternes, but they are special occasion wines for me. I think to really enjoy port it needs to be cold outside, and I live in southern Ca, so its rare : )

  • pian0_player

I like port with cheese, but it can be nice with chocolate too.

  • pian0_player

The best cigar i ever had was a cuban montecristo, but ive also had some pretty crappy cuban cigars too. for non-cuban I like padron.

  • HugeneOR

QOTD: Port is way up there for sure, along with Sauternes, BA/TBA, etc, blah blah. Depends on the occasion. Had a '77 Dow's with my father and brothers after christmas dinner this past year. That experience was what got me get way into wine. I would love to be able to do that for my kids some day.

    Good show. Short and sweet.

  • jeffg17

Great job bringing WLTV to iPhone/iPad. Tried it before… didn't work… now it's great! (http://tinyurl.com/39fxpjh – me and my iPad)

QOTD: Ice wines. Love them, but any desert wines are a rare treat. Usually have had one glass too many by desert anyway… and it takes something of an occasion (and something of a desert) to crack one open.

Padron 1926 Serie 9 or the 1940 are very good with port. They have a chocolate after taste that goes well with the port. As I was sharing with cubatobaco, I like Gurhka and Louie XIII.
